Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Itinerary advice request
My husband and I will be in Italy for the first time from Sept 29-Oct 15, and I'm looking for some itinerary advice. We enjoy history, food, art, cars, hiking, and relaxation to offset the craziness.
Pompeii is a necessity, but not sure if a day trip from Rome would suffice or if we should stay near Amalfi coast for a few days. That said, I have seen single day trips from Rome that include seeing Sorrento and some of the Amalfi coast, but that seems pretty rushed.
I'd love to just take the train back to Rome from Florence the day that we leave, but the flight leaves at 10:30am, and I don't really want that extra stress.
9/29-10/3(10/5 if no Amalfi): Rome (we arrive around 10pm)
*10/3: train to Naples then ferry to Sorrento
*10/3-10/5: Sorrento/Amalfi coast
10/5: back to Naples for train to Bologna
10/5-10/8: Bologna/Modena/Parma (Stay in Bologna)
10/8: train to Florence to pick up rental car
10/8-10/11: Tuscany (likely agritourismo stay)
10/11-10/14: Florence
10/14: train back to Rome, stay overnight one more night
10/15: fly back home

Just got back from Rome and Sicily. Second time in Italy. My advice is reduce your schedule so you don't try to cram too much. Our best times in Rome were late night walkabout eating pizza and Gelato after a day at the Coliseum.
