Need help building a model

So I want to put a power lance onto a veteran breacher sergeant, but am unsure of how to properly put the weapon onto him since it's being held as a two-handed weapon in the melee weapon upgrade kit. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Cut the weapon at both sides of where the extra hand is holding it and glue the rod back together. I did that with the Saturnine Praetor axe.
