Suwon Bluewings. Moved to their doorstep when I moved to Korea. Red white and Blue everywhere meant an adjustment to my wardrobe

When/how long were you in Korea? What was the football like?

Been there 15 years. The standard has dropped a lot in that time. The players are super fit, well organised, technically quite good, no creativity, awful at shooting, play on mostly dreadful pitches thanks to the climate (freezing winters, boiling summers, almost no rain except for monsoon season.) Referees are appalling. Stadiums are modern, tickets are cheap.

Why do you like Cliftonville? It’s quite odd lol

Spent three months in Belfast to get into my English teacher master's degree and lived right next to waterworks on Cavehill Road back in April to June 2024. I checked out all four Belfast teams and went to as many games as possible, Cliftonville was the most local one tho and also the one I liked the most. The Oval was quite far away, Linfield was after they had already lost the league. Crusaders was quite fun tbh but I just felt the most connection to Cliftonville (also helps that my personal beliefs align more with Republicans than Loyalists, though as a foreigner born after the troubles I won't go as far as to pick sides)

Sampdoria. I don’t know why 7 year old me picked them while watching Football Italia on Channel 4 but they’re my team.

Never really watching English football as my parents didn’t have Sky when I was growing up.

Sampdoria had a really beautiful kit. Iirc they won the Scudetto in the 90s. Loved Football Italia too, and the contrast between my experience watching the Irish League and the Serie A. Everything seemed so glamourous.

I pretty much stopped watching football over a decade ago, aside from the Irish League, but I have soft sports for Hearts & Spurs (one to escape the Rangers/Celtic thing, one cus I was coerced). But my favourite ā€˜other’ club is Fiorentina: I love Florence, and their purple kit is fantastic. Also, I grew up in an era of Football Italia, and I loved Gabriel Batistuta.

As a French supporter, my favourite team is obviously Marseille it’s a family tradition. I’m also a big lover of British football. In Northern Ireland, I support the Glens (though I respect all the teams). In Scotland, I have a soft spot for Rangers, especially since I’ve been to Ibrox twice. I also really enjoyed my visit to Livingston the experience at the stadium was fantastic. I’ve got a soft spot for Queen of the South and Brechin City as well

Tottenham Hotspur as a lad and teenager, although as my fanaticism for the Glens grew and was rooted in place and match attendance it increasingly felt silly to me to support a team I never saw, so far away. At the time I saw the IL as the antithesis of a growing Sky TV fan culture.

As life has taken me around the world I’ve been a regular at Rangers, Vancouver Whitecaps and currently Westchester SC. The only one of those that comes close to ā€œsupportā€ is Rangers. The others just an excuse to go to a match.

So pretty much only the Glens and NI for me.
