For anyone who thinks I didn't put them back think again I put everything back and if I seen someone try take from the canal they'd be going in with the fish ๐คฃ was not Robertstown I haven't been there in a long time but had many good sessions there

What fish are they? Are they native to Ireland?

These are Tench and they are not native to Ireland no but they don't cause any negative impact to water ecosystems plus they are great to catch they are strong fighting fish thanks

Technically true, but they've been here since the middle-ages so we can at least give them "honorary" Irish status at this point ๐

Do 'The Honourable The Irish Society' still control access to waterways in ROI like they do in the North?

There's always people watching thats for sure and good because who wants to sit beside an empty canal

The IFI and - maybe - Waterways Ireland are the only agencies with statutory powers RE canals; well, aside from the Gardaรญ...
Who're this Irish Society you're on about...?

Fair play. What bait is working for you. Found worm tipped with sweetcorn good in the past. Did you rake?

I was just using worm sitting off the bottom ever so slightly but they were feeding heavily throughout the day . Jacuzzi was turned on every hour or so for 5/10 mins . I racked a swim yes and find with the canal they show up not long after whist cloud in still in the water

I know very little about fishing, what is 'turning on the jacuzzi' - stirring up the canal bed somehow?

Tench feed heavily on the bottom resulting in bubbles coming to the surface. It is a telltale giveaway they are in the area

I had a pet tench in my aquarium I caught in monstersvan . I had release him he got too big for the tank

Nice one. Sometimes find a quick rake is nearly better than groundbaiting on some stretches.

Curious why keep em in a net until the end of the session If youโre just releasing. Is it just so you can look at it and say โdamn look at all these fishesโ?

Like I've said before here folks, our canals are STUFFED with fish. You all just need to get out fishing! Walk the banks, talk to other anglers, rake a swim or two, and fish away.
