luckily the tank only looked like the first image for a week or so, thanks to the advice of people in this sub i upgraded their enclosure and continue to add more all the time and change it up so they don't get bored. so thank you for the advice, this sub really makes a difference in invert lives!

they LOVE it. and i've found they sort of cycle through hiding spots so the leaves are great bc it gives them so many different spots to hide
