luckily the tank only looked like the first image for a week or so, thanks to the advice of people in this sub i upgraded their enclosure and continue to add more all the time and change it up so they don't get bored. so thank you for the advice, this sub really makes a difference in invert lives!

I’ve always wondered how do you clean their enclosure? Do you like spot clean like weekly and change out everything monthly? I’ve been wanting to get some of these little guys for such a long time now. But I’m such an over thinker so I’m doing lots of research before I feel like I can be ready.

luckily it's a very dry environment since they're desert bugs, and the only moisture goes in their food bowls so i clean those most regularly. other than that i just kinda occasionally take out pieces of it and clean them off. i haven't had to worry about changing the substrate out bc ive been upgrading it pretty steadily but i imagine i'll probably just put them in a cup and remove everything, dump out the substrate, pour more in, and then put everything back.
