Scared to file claim

I am looking at potentially having to file my third claim within 5 years. Actually within 3 years.

The first was a major power outage and I stupidly followed the advice of others and they sent me a check to replace spoiled food. I didn't really realize this was a claim or I never would have done this. (2024)

Second, my husband had someone convince him to come make a claim for new siding after hail damage. (2025)

Now, my mom flooded my bathroom and there's water coming through the first floor. I am praying this is just a few thousand and we will pay it. But if its major damage we won't have a choice but to make a claim. I am sick and just so bummed for making the other two claims.

Will we be dropped if we make another claim?

Update, it looks like the damage isn't so bad and we will pay out of pocket. So many reddit trolls here just to insult me on a seriously bad day. You don't know what you don't know.. and now I know.

I'll never be as lame as people who spend their time on reddit trying to make people feel bad.

Most likely you would be non-renewed. And probably no one but the state high risk plan will pick you up for the next 3-5 years.

Thing is, if your policy renews later in 2026, they may still non-renew you for just the 2 claims within a 3 year period, and then you'll have paid this last claim out of pocket for nothing. If it has already renewed for 2026, see paragraph 1.

Your prior claims history will be taken into consideration even with another carrier.

Right but why pick us up at all with the other two claims if they are going to drop us at renewal time?

You’re gonna end up paying 2-3x more for insurance and you’ll pay all that money back in premium maybe more. No insurance company is going to want to insure someone who averages a claim every year. Most homeowners have 1 claim every 8-11 years

Took a chance and it backfired. They aren't going to take another chance you do it again in a year.

Right but this was in response to someone saying they may drop me whether I file it or not

If you file, they will use those two prior claims against you.

I got hit with a non renewal over lightning strike. Def can happen even with just one claim.
