OC-OneShot She is Happy NSFW

Just some rambling.

Edit: added NSFW due to some photos being... edgy.

The date: 2264

We destroyed the Earth.

In 2262 Earth was at war. Factions fighting factions, trying to control our few remaining resources, same as it has always been.

We had colonies on every habitable rock in our solar system. We wanted their resources, not all of them, but enough to keep Earth going. They refused.

So we nuked them. All of them.

Our solar system was by all accounts already dead. A nuclear wasteland. We just didn’t know it yet.

In 2263 we went nuclear on Earth. Most nuclear weapons had long since been destroyed. But we held some in reserve, like when we used them on the colonies. When we used them to destroy our enemy. It started off in Europe, soon not a single continent had been untouched.

The Earth started to get colder, and colder. By mid-2263 researchers spoke of an ice age. By late 2263 we were certain. They said we started a nuclear winter.

In 2264 The Earth was dying.

Us few who were left banded together. We needed a plan. We needed to survive. Then it dawned on us few survivors. We made our solar system uninhabitable.

We had to leave Sol.

In 2267 we finished construction of our interstellar ships. We prepared as best we could and left Earth, now mostly an icy wasteland.

In 2358 we travelled for almost a century. We mostly met races that were pre-spaceflight and didn’t bother them, very few races were noteworthy bar a trade here and there. One race was the exception. They were aggressive from the moment we contacted them. They tried to attack us. We didn’t bother with them and left.

This continued until we hit the top edge of the Milky Way. We then decided to leave the Milky Way behind and travel to the top stream of the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy and find a new home.

In 2418 we found a new home. The system had many planets, but what caught our eye was a massive and beautiful earth like planet with an equally beautiful earth like moon with multiple rings.

The backdrop helped too.

We decided to settle on the moon, it had seasons, and plenty of water and wildlife and was big enough for what was left of humanity. We started anew with 485,624 of our people.

In 2678 we numbered just over 300 million and considered colonising our big neighbour.

In 2798 we numbered 6.7 Billion on all planets throughout the system.

In 2800 we started playing around with remote neural controlled mechanised bodies.

In 2805 we had perfected our neural links and circuitry and our new mechs were in use in heavy industry and the military.

In 2825 we started colonising other systems in the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy.

In 2900 we have a population of 170 Billion humans spread out through 30 systems.

In 2913 we theorised uploading human minds.

In 2917 we attempted to upload the first human mind, but the upload failed half way and her mind was lost. She received posthumous awards and a medal for her sacrifice.

In 2920 we successfully uploaded the first human mind. Shortly afterwards he went crazy. We had to terminate him. He received posthumous awards and a medal for his sacrifice.

In 2925 we successfully uploaded the second human mind. After figuring out what made the first one loose it marbles we implemented safety barriers.

In 2940 we have uploaded thousands of minds without a single failure.

In 2950 all humans now have the option to upload their mind.

In 3000 we now number 4.5 trillion souls spread out through 800 systems.

In 3056 we came across these little fellows on a small planet in a newly scouted system. They are as passive as a new born lamb, however, it was found that when antagonised or hungry they turn into an equivalent of a Tasmanian devil. We adopted them straight away of course and are now our trusted companions like the old earth dogs and cats used to be. We populated the system except for that planet. We monitor, observe and protect. But we do not colonise. They seem to love boxes.

In 3084 the uploaded minds requested access to mechanical bodies, while they greatly advanced our society, they felt they did not contribute enough. They designed these and we manufactured them immediately.

In 3115 one of our colonies was attacked. The defence held and we scoured the battlefield for information on who our aggressor was. We found bodies, this is a digital representation from our databanks. The first alien we had encountered in the CMD galaxy.

In 3116 our collective of uploaded minds had designed new military mechs. Our military encouraged their soldiers to be uploaded, an uploaded soldier was immortal. If their mech was destroyed they would still exist in the collective as only a copy was downloaded. They would immediately be ready for another download. Both copy and original were linked together and constantly updating each other.

In 3117 our new enemy has repeatedly attacked our colonies over a large region of the CMD galaxy they never breached our defences.

In 3118 we declared a state of war, increased our military tenfold. We were going on the offensive. We knew where they lived.

In 3122 we reached their home world. Until now every single world they occupied beforehand was a dead world, they destroyed every living thing they came across. We decided to end their terror and destruction. We rained millions of tons of munitions on their world, paving the way for our ODSTs. So they could cleanse the galaxy from their kind.

In 3123 the war was won. We included their worlds into ours, we scorched the planets to ensure nothing of them was left. We left them to heal.

In 3150 we started to research and develop human looking mechs.

In 3200 we designed more types of human mechs. We now numbered over 30 trillion minds calling more than 1200 systems home.

In 3205 we decided to return to Earth. We had the technology. It was time to wake Mother.

In 3250 we developed the technology to grow human bodies with the ability to download our minds.

In 3267 we equipped and sent 2 billion of our population to Earth, accompanied by a quarter of our military.

In 3268 we arrived at Earth. We found Earth as an ice planet. We had work to do. We started warming the Earth up slowly. The ice started melting and receding. We also started the rehabilitation and terraforming on the other planets and moons in Sol.

We commenced the construction of large stations in orbit of earth and other planets they would take several years to complete due to their size.

In 3270 an unknown fleet dropped out of FLT on the outskirts of Sol. They introduced themselves as the Moniari and were on the run from the Vaughr who had been conquering and on a genocidal directive for centuries. They had exterminated dozens of species.

The Moniari requested asylum. It was granted. But we had no living spaces for them as our stations weren’t ready for another few months. They informed us that they had been living on their ships for several years and did not require living space at this time.

In 3271 we finished the stations. The Moniari were surprised to find that we were uploaded minds. They found it fascinating.

In 3273 the Vaughr arrived. They were the same species that attacked us during our nomadic stage after we left Earth. Now they had some to Sol. To take what was ours. We will not surrender Sol again. We fought back. They were defenseless.

In 3274 we went on the offensive. We deployed our mechs on every planet they occupied.
Snipers tearing through their bodies from long distances.
Beasts instilling fear wherever they went.
Hunters going after high ranking Vaughr, never seen.
Destroyers dropping from orbit on military and industrial planets.
Heavy and standard infantry deployed as marines and invasions forces for high population planets.

In 3280 we reached their home world. They did not ask for peace. We did not offer any.
We did not invade. 500 of our dreadnaughts continuously fired from orbit on the same location of the planet until we reached the planets core. We then dropped the nutcracker into the core of their planet.
And then we cracked it.

In 3282 we established colonies on all of our viable planets and moons. We helped the Moniari rebuild their home world.

In 3285 we awoke Mother.

She is happy.

I always find the notion of uploaded minds more impractical than practical.

Also, how would uploaded humans procreate? it makes no sense.

Once a race is uploaded, they stop growing.

True, who knows 1200 years from now.

My storyline was more leaning towards growing actual bodies from DNA and genetic sequencing. Basically clones.

But considering 80% of humanity is still human in their original bodies. It doesn't really matter. Those 20% made their choice. Later the bodies were grown to allow them the choice of having kids... or other bodily fun.

simulating genetic recombination and development of the child's conciousness should be doable as well.

But then it would just be a computer program, not a human.

But what is a human?

Not a randomised computer program.

Is an uploaded mind still human?

One of my major qualms about 'uploading' minds. How do you know you survive the process and the 'uploaded' mind is actually you? How would anyone else be able to tell? Etc etc.

Also depends on if you believe machine conciousness is possible.

I dont think it is.

I tend to think a good simulation of a child being born and growing up would be human, or close enough to be indistinguishable.

I find that unlikely. How can a computer program experience emotions, which define a human and how they grow and develop, for example?

What if you slowly replace each neuron with a machine in someone's brain while they are conscious. Is there a point where they become unconscious or cease to be human

Would that be plausible? Would that work? We dont know.

Hell, we dont even know if the only place human consciousness is located is in the brain! There is some evidence that the body is not just a vessel.

There is a book by Hostfaeder called I Am A Strange Loop. I'm no where near as eloquent as he is, but I think it is possible. Basically if you don't believe in the soul, then a self-referential system of large enough complexity can be conscious. We are machines already, we just evolved instead of being assembled.

Lets not mistake fiction for fact here. Whilst things like that make a good story, we simply dont know anywhere near enough to say uploading is even possible, let alone safe or, frankly, even if it is needed.

To me it seems that at the low levels emotion is a physical function. Why could this not be simulated with a sufficiently complex machine?

Would that be possible? Would they be the same as genuine emotions?

Uploading is too messy and unexplained to be plausible. Whenever it is included in a story, it really puts me off as it is up there with space magic in my opinion.

I think uploading will be possible

But why would it be useful?

It wouldnt, unless someone was a vain fool who thinks uploading would make them immortal.
