3D models and Diorama

Hi all. I've been watching Gilligan since the 60's and have always been a fan.

I have a friend of mine who's good with taking pictures/ videos and capturing them with a program that will turn them into 3D models.

I asked him him to capture the animated versions of the castaways. I cleaned up the models and textures and rigged them to an armature to make them game ready, and made a digital diorama out of them as well. For fan art, they're not perfect, but they came out pretty good. They look good running around in game.

Diorama below. I based it off the 1st season end credits. Gilligan wasn't in the shot so I had him fishing as in the credits.

Besides the castaways from my friend, I found the rest of the scene items on the web and imported them - a boat for the Minnow that I put holes in, rocks, a fallen tree, a palm tree, a crate, and a radio. The backdrop is from a google image search.

Mrs. Howell’s real name

I have read her real first name was Eunice. In what episode and what context was it mentioned? I know they gave her maiden name of Wentworth in the episode where they had to get married but can’t recall when she was called anything but Lovey.

How famous is Ginger?

Never been quite sure if she was really a movie star, or a B list actress, or a bit-part player.

-- She's famous enough to have been recognized by the viewers of Castaways Pictures Presents, and by the actor researching the ape-man role. But perhaps by then, she had become famous as "Ginger Grant who disappeared," more so than as "Ginger Grant who was in Mohawk Over the Moon."

-- Other times, such as Angel on the Island, and The Producer, it seems that pre-island, she was still waiting for her big break.

-- And she was in Honolulu because she had a singing engagement in a nightclub. What level of fame would that have implied in 1964?

I mean, obviously she sees herself as a star! But what do you suppose her status is in Hollywood?

Bob and John Denver

Am I the only one who thought they were brothers or at least wondered if they were?

Before you laugh think about it. Both were thin and had kind of a goofy persona. Bob was eight years older so they weren’t that far apart in age.

Keep in mind I grew up in a time where looking something like that up was impossible.

Season 2 Episode 2

Watching Gilligan’s Island on tubi and noticed a cigarette butt on the ground after Gilligan fell down. He covers it as he’s getting back on his feet. I remember reading Gilligan was a big smoker and think more of the cast smoked as that’s what people did back in the day.

Why did the passengers bring so much for a 3 hour tour? Clothes, makeup, perfume, the Howells with EVERY DOLLAR THEY EVER MADE?

Been looking for a higher quality version of this, the youtube ones aren't very high quality, was wondering if anybody had a high quality version anywhere? Harlem Globetrotters is also something I'm searching for as well. Ty!

Does anyone remember which episode …

Anyone remember an episode where Mr & Mrs Howell were having celebration of some sort, and when asked why, Mr Howell says something like “It’s June 27th” and when asked what that date was they reply “well it’s June 27th, it only comes once a year!”

* I say this often, and I always think of the scene, but I am not sure if I remember correctly or not

Yes, that would have been ghastly. And impractical. Remember, there was a 12 y/o boy in the first season of Lost, and they had to disappear him because the actor became a teenager before their very eyes.

Where is this quote from -- "Gilligan is a twelve-year-old child!"?

Sherwood Schwartz was talking about getting GI greenlit and on the air, and the "helpful" suggestions producers/the network offered. One idea, that Schwartz was luckily able to squash, was a talking dinosaur. Another was the Professor having his twelve-year-old nephew with him. For kid appeal, yanno. Schwartz' head exploded at that one, and it led to the quote I'm looking for, paraphrased from memory:

"I had to get them to understand that if you have a child on the show, you eliminate the character of Gilligan, because Gilligan IS a twelve-year-old child!"

I know I read that somewhere, but it wasn't in the Unofficial Guide that I just finished reading. And I combed through Russell Johnson's book and didn't find it. Ring a bell for anyone?

Here’s another parody of Gilligans Island that I found. It’s pretty funny.

And the times Gilligan was the hero.

"How can everyone put up with Gilligan? All he does is mess up!" Because for all that, there are times he saves the day, or shows real integrity. He's as much worth as he is trouble.

(These are covered elsewhere, but I want to highlight them.)

  1. The Big Gold Strike: Everyone except Gilligan smuggles gold, causing the raft to sink.

ETA: 38. Beauty Is As Beauty Does: When he has to judge the Miss Castaway pageant, he tells the women they're all equally deserving of the title, then he awards it to Gladys the ape, because "She's the only one born on the island." Kind of like Fred Astaire choosing Buttons the dog when asked who his all-time favorite dance partner was.

  1. Hi-Fi Gilligan: He gives himself the short straw.

  2. Mine Hero: He gets the mine to a safe distance, at no small risk to his own life.

  3. Not Guilty: “Skipper, before we were shipwrecked, we didn’t know any of these people.” And he brought up the idea of reenacting the crime.

  4. Seer Gilligan: He burns the seeds.

  5. Forward March: He disarms the gorilla.

  6. Feed the Kitty: He subdues the lion.

  7. Bang! Bang! Bang! He walks into mortar fire.

I don’t think anyone else has saved the whole gang from true disaster, not even Skipper or Professor. And while Gilligan hurts their chances of escaping the island, no one ever takes Mr. Howell’s bribes, and no men are ever fully won over by Ginger. Gilligan is the heart of the show, not just a clown.
