Mare Jivari Pyro Archon Enjou took the Pyro Gnosis.
Is Natlan truly freed from the Abyss? No.
In Natlan, is it really true that no one fight alone? No.
Because in Natlan, one place is still steeped in Abyssal corruption and one man has been fighting alone. The man who was known as Enjou, or the Lavawalker.
Now, it may seem foolish to try and make a Mare Jivari theory when everything about the place has contradictory lore because of Venti who "blew it off the timeline." But I think I still see some threads that could be tied together so, let's begin.
The man who walks on the lava:
Firstly, I'm going to try and pick apart the enigma that is Enjou to try and figure out what is it that this man is truly after or who he even is.
While his words and actions themselves are confusing, the last few words he said the last time we saw him seems to finally revealed what he is after. He's looking for his homeland.

But here's the thing, due to Venti/Istaroth reasons, THIS Mare Jivari doesn't seem like HIS Mare Jivari.
Let me explain.
In his artifact set: https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Lavawalker the Mare Jivari that we see is vastly different from the Mare Jivari that we fought the Bakunawa in. What I mean is, that it is described to be a hellscape of fire and lava- one that more closely resembles the "fake" Mare Jivari that the Abyss... made? To captured Bennett in the last summer patch.

So what happened? There is two separate ages of the Mare Jivari that is recorded down, one that is perpetually on fire and one that has become a windless ash filled land. And the answer is simple, the land is burnt out. With the passage of time, the entirety of the land has been burned to literal ash with nothing left that can support the inferno. Thusly, it turned into the Mare Jivari that we walked into as the Traveler.
But what about what happened to the Lavawalker? From the time he went by the identity as Lavawalker to the point of being Enjou?
He either lost his memories, hence his weird dialogue: "If there truly is a homeland I have forgotten, could it be within this realm of smoldering, shattered time?"
He's an Abyssal mimic of the man who used to be the Lavawalker. Similar to "a man" who is named Quenin in the quest Twisted Extension.

The original "Quenin" had died sometimes ago, but the Abyss decided to mimic him to the point of not even realizing that itself was a mimic. Thusly, it can be speculated that the Abyss has created an Lavawalker mimic that conveniently forgets crucial info about himself.

Another odd thing is, the Abyss didn't just copy him once. It did it multiple of times throughout Ochkanatlan. In the quest The Lone Isle Named Night, the one you pick up an unhatched egg who you would later use to fight in Linnea's Character Quest, you see another Quenin.

Much like how "Enjou" is described as during the player's battle with him.

- He's just actually really old and kind of forgot a few things in his long journey. In 6.6, the answer to King Deshret's riddle was time.

With the passage of time, the Lavawalker's dreams and wishes may have begun to fade and smolder, much like how the land of Mare Jivari ran out of things to burn.
The Gnosis heist:
Now, I think I've talked enough about the person himself and can move to my thoughts on why I think he was the one to take the Pyro Gnosis and what he is trying to do with it.
So, to begin with, Nahida talked about the burning of Irminsul with an interesting amount of detail- specifically that it burned for 7 days and 7 nights. Now, I don't know if those numbers means anything but I just want to draw everyone's attention to the fire itself. There was a lot of fire and a long time that it is burning for. And since that after the fire, the Gnosis was gone, if we are to assume that if it was taken, then taken during the fire. This automatically draws me to someone like the Lavawalker who is known to be pretty fire proof himself.

But that isn't the only thing that got me suspicious of Enjou. Remember the time when Enjou said that watching a wall disappear gives him a rush like watching a huge library burn down?

Well, what just happened in 6.6?

Irminsul, inarguably, the largest library of the world burned down. And I would put mora down on a bet that he was nearby, watching this momentous occasion going down.
So why does he need to Pyro Gnosis? Well, to probably save his homeland, the Mare Jivari from being burnt to ashes. With the land itself being in a temporal mess thanks to Istaroth/Venti, this goal might actually be possible. Using the power of the Pyro Gnosis, he can defeat his foes + the unstable time of this place, he could possibly try and go to an era BEFORE the Mare Jivari became a hellscape.
A deeper layer:
Now, before I end this post. I wanna try and peel another layer off of Enjou's identity. An identity that is deeper than just being the "Lavawalker."
- Enjou is Chaac, the first human who Kulkukan taught to use Phlogiston.
The reason for this idea is simple, Chaac and Kulkukan was the one who use Phlogiston to make the Upper Sanctum.

The Muratan tribe were the tribe of Anemo in Natlan.

And looking at the Upper Sanctum... I'd say having Anemo would be really helpful up there. But of course, Kukulkan later kicked everyone off that floating rock, and the people then scattered throughout Natlan with some most definitely would've ended up becoming the Muratans.
Then there's the readable that talks about Chaac. https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Records_of_Hanan_Pacha gives off Enjou's demeanor. Although, this book kind of reads as parody, so I don't know how much this is trust worthy.
- Enjou was a Pyro Archon. The last one from the Muratan Tribe.
When Citlali asks for Enjou's real name, he refused to answer.

And in the next scene after, Citlali talks about the names she read off the nearby inscriptions.

The names of former Pyro Archons.

And this makes me think that perhaps, we should be open to the idea that Enjou might be a Pyro Archon of the past. There's also one inscription in the room that talks about a Pyro Archon that has been gone for a decade.

Although, this one might be Mauvika, it could also be describing the Lavawalker who just... walked into the Mare Jivari and didn't turn back.
There's also the thing about the Agnidus Agate Gemstone. https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Agnidus_Agate_Gemstone We never really found out what all these lines mean or who said them, specifically the 3rd line.
"A pilgrimage for a wish; a battle to earn a name...
Burnt to cinders for a dream.
If the intention yet remains, achieved ▉▉'s truth he has."
But all three lines could also apply to Enjou as the Lavawalker who went on a pilgrimage through the Mare Jivari, reduced to ashes and he himself still have a desire to free the Mare Jivari after death. The censored part is also interesting because there's really no one else who has a hidden identity in Natlan other than Enjou at the moment.
Ending Notes:
I had fun making this theory. Though the evidence was a bit scarce, sometimes ideas and theories only have one thread that is sticking out. Like how Collei being the host of Nabu Malikata's remains was only hinted at from the one prophetic dream. I've at least tried to weave my idea with more substance than that.
As the person who made a Nabu Malikata is inside someone theory, I placed the wrong bet on the wrong 4*. I said she was inside Layla and that now seems dead. But maybe there's still hope that it's another fragment of Nabu inside her? Or a Seelie at least? Oh well, one can hope.
Thanks for reading, don't go yelling at me about the title. I just wanted something popping so this post would standout.

Interesting Enjou theory(ies) but I think you're forgetting that it was implied that the Lavawalker was always immortal. I forget the exact quote but in his artifact set it explicitly says he went 100 years on his own as a hermit having outlived all of his students and showing no signs of aging. So I don't think he's some kind of Abyss replica since the Abyss Quenin we met was much more confused and overall incoherent sounding compared to Enjou. I also don't think Enjou has the Pyro Gnosis since his main goal was to just get the Bakunawa's corpse part to enter into the true Mare Jivari.
I have my own Enjou theory I've been meaning to post here for a while but to keep it short I think he's a pyro dragon. But not just any pyro dragon, the pyro Sovereign himself reincarnated. I could go into it fully here but it's way too long to type on my phone lol.

I did know that he was a long living person, I read that from the time piece lore. I also sees a possible relationship to him with Citlali. They're both old people who doesn't have any explanation on how they are this old. But couldn't figure out anything for this link.

Yeah Citlali is weird but I think Enjou is a different case since he was also immune to fire and lava as the Lavawalker too.

The one glaring issue with this is Occam’s Razor. The Tsaritsa needs the Pyro Gnosis for her plan. One of her harbingers was right there by the tree. It’s easy to put two and two together of how this is going to play out.
And the Hanan Pacha book is pure fiction I think. It’s definitely not a book written in metaphors to hide truths in.
I believe the burning of the library is a reference to him having burned down the once much larger library of Mondstadt.
Still, I “enjoued” reading your theory and the connection between the “Thing calling itself” and the “The Thing that looks like”!

I think Asmoday might have been the one who took it. Since Nahida used the Gnosis to contact Celestia, Asmoday must know as well and the God's Limit trailer should take place after this event..

"It’s easy to put two and two together of how this is going to play out." It's not considering they'd have to explain why there's no records in the leylines, why Mavuika felt it disappear and why they didn't start their plan between the moment they get their hands on it and the moment Traveler arrives in Snezhnaya because it's obviously not going to happen off-screen.

There are no records in the leylines because the Pyro Gnosis disappeared in between Irminsul being down and Aaru having taken over (the time it was downloading all the previous data and working through it). There is a gap in between where no new records were made. Since they started looking for the Pyro Gnosis soon after the ashes settled, there was still time for someone else to pick it up undetected. And that person was literally standing at the site of the tree at the most opportune time.
Mavuika wouldn't feel it disappear because a Gnosis isn't like a soul fragment. It's not bound to the Archon like if it were part of their essence. It is an external elemental augmentation device. If that weren't the case, then the Archons now all have a literal realtime tracker on the Tsaritsa...
I have no idea what the timeline of the start of the Tsaritsa's execution of her plan has to do with the conversation about who took the Pyro Gnosis. It's certainly an interesting story point we have yet to figure out, but it's unrelated to this specific event.

How I envisioned all this playing out is that 7.0-7.4 The Tsaritsa issue resolves and we find ourselves in an amicable relationship and decides to help her in our own way. But we do still need the Pyro Gnosis. Then 7.5-7.6 Natlan goes on fire again because the Mare Jivari issue spills over and that is when we resolves the issues there with the Pyro Gnosis. After that is settled, the Gnosis can finally reach the Tsaritsa's hands and then we prepare for 8.0.

Honestly one theory I have about Enjou is that he is the boy that the Voyager took over. I remember that it is said that Koitar and the Voyager were cursed to forget. And as the voyager just possessed a body so she can return at anytime leaving the boy to take the curse by himself.

u/Revenant092 Lizard Lore Lover 7d ago
We know from the latest artifact sets that the Voyager's physical form apparently died at some point during her and Koitar's reign and Voyager herself went dormant because of it.

u/hadtiah 7d ago
Well all it said that the body is in bad condition and Enjou is a abyss creature now so it could be that because it was badly damaged it was corrupted by the abyss and now he is now Enjou.
1
u/Revenant092 Lizard Lore Lover 7d ago
It also said that the light left his eyes and that Koitar could not get a response out of him anymore so I think the implication is that the body died from age. And the Abyss hadn't attacked Hyperborea yet so it couldn't have gotten corrupted.

u/hadtiah 7d ago
I mean one of the projections durin and friends encounter is from Hyperborea and they were getting chased by a rift hound like being

Yeah but I think happened some time after the star eyed boy's death since Koitar was still talking about her rebellion to him.

u/hadtiah 7d ago
The sky had been set ablaze by the blistering embers, which had also mingled with a rain of blood. Night had turned brighter than day. From the heavens fell a stellar spike that stirred the very stars, its brilliance dimming even the light of the false sun.
This is the beginning part before they talked about the boy. So it happened during the rebellion
1
u/Revenant092 Lizard Lore Lover 7d ago
Still the Abyss had no invaded yet at that point and Hyperborea was still standing so the Abyss couldn't access his corpse.

Who knows where the pyro gnosis went i doubt the fatui has it I suspect Ronova may have taken the pyro gnosis to slow down The Tsaritsa plans that line from Skirk about gnosis being objects of misfortune should not be overlook at all its also possible that the pyro gnosis was assimilated into teyvats sun
