Offaly 💚🤍💛

Post image

This Photo was taken on the 24th July 2021 Offaly vs Wicklow in the Christy Ring Semi Final, we were just starting to come out of Covid so tickets for the game were limited too 500 people & it still didn’t sellout. Today we qualified for an All Ireland QF, yes we probably will get hammered in it but I’ll take that every year over going back to those times 💚🤍💛

I’ll never forget the loss to Kerry down in Tralee in the last group game of the Joe Mc in 2019. The darkest of dark days. The 23 and 24 hammerings in the pre lim QF’s where we looked embarrassingly far away from being able to compete. Even the Antrim game last year where we were outnumbered 2-1 in the stands in tullamore and relied on an Antrim red card and still almost threw it away. I’ll take a 20 point hammering against Cork/Limerick no problem. Just to be at this stage of the competition is something I never expected to see on that trip home from Kerry 7 years ago

The penalty shootout loss to Down the following year & failing to get out of the Christy Ring at the first time of asking was probably the darkest day in Offaly hurling. The 23 loss was bad but the Cork one the year after wasn’t too bad was only about 9pts & we had them on the ropes for a lot the second half even though the damage was probably done in the first half.

Whichever of the two we are playing, we’re going to take a hammering but I’ll take hammering in All Ireland QF over losing on pens in the Christy Ring every time.
