Just curious (Bulldog)

Like I’m watching Frasier for the first time and I’m on the last season, and I’ve felt this way watching the entire time… did anyone find Bulldog to be very attractive? Like he’s so sexy to me and his sex appeal has yet to waver. And I’m curious what the reception was in real time.

I don't personally find him sexy, but i can certainly see how someone might. He's confident, charismatic, and not mysterious at all lol. I know that last point is opposite to what many people consciously find attractive. People are often drawn to a mysterious allure. But with Bulldog, you know exactly what you're getting-- a hypersexual misogynist lol. Which shouldn't be alluring on paper, but can be attractive in terms of expectations, if that makes sense. He can't disappoint you, because you know on the front end that it's all about a good time. In short, I think some could see him as attractive in the wild frat boy sense.

Careful. “Just curious” is how Bulldog started.

He’s super sexy to me, but only physically. I wouldn’t wanna work with him.

You'll be even more surprised (or maybe curious?) if you see the reboot 😉

I loved that scene.

That scene was worth doing the reboot for. Bulldog and Gill’s future was not what I expected, and it was hilarious

I found it very stupid. You don’t suddenly realize your gay in your 50s

Maybe they made that choice to reflect Dan Butler's real life?

Just ruins the shows story continuity

You're going to get berated for not getting on board with the Bulldog is gay plot line here

I found him massively attractive even though in real life I would hate him like Roz..I don’t know why…

He is sexy in a way

Because he drives a 94 Camaro? Or because he's a former professional hockey player?

Dunno. I think it's his eyes.. maybe the confidence too

"Somebody stole my tickets!! This Stinks!! This is total BS! This is....Oh, here they are."

Really wish they would have continued that gag. I could have enjoyed that bit about him losing something and yelling about it and then finding it every single episode!! LOL.

Bulldog was hilarious and I think was an immensely popular character.
But to his obnoxiousness in person and also on the air, what a ridiculous radio station they had in KACL to go from Frasier's snobby and emo-style call-in shrink show to Bulldog YELLING at and hanging up on you and then to Gil Chesterton being pompous and effeminate. Seriously, weirdest radio station anywhere.

As for Bulldog's looks, never thought about it or would have considered it. I mean, he's short, bald and loud (kind of like me!! LOL) so thinking of him as some diamond in the rough hunk was never on my radar erven as a possibility. I was more in line with Roz's repulsion to his...ummm...barking at people. But also found it hilarious when she eventually gave in and kept getting together with him while she was also still repulsed by him. Fun storyline.

Everytime I misplace my phone or glasses I go into Bulldog's "This stinks, this is total B.S." schtick. My wife is tired of explaining to strangers that I'm not, in fact, a maniac, just a Frasier fan! 🤣

Yes, Bulldog was definitely a hottie.

I don’t get the impression he went over super well with audiences. He was with the main group in early promotional photos and then wasn’t.

I found the character so obnoxious - then and now- that his physical appearance was irrelevant to me. I found him very unattractive then and still do. But that’s obviously just my personal feeling about him.

No, he was very popular. He left for about 2 years (and so was out of cast photos) to work on other projects, such as the movie Enemy of the State.

I disagree as to his popularity.

u/aqaba_is_over_there 4h ago

You don't have to be likeable to be popular. He was a heel.

1

u/KelleyElsie I'm a Star Maker! 2h ago

Of course not! Some of my favorite characters in film & tv have been awful. Unlikeable people.

But again, I don’t think he was very popular and that was reflected in his diminishing screen time.

We are all just sharing our opinions here. That’s mine. 🤷🏼‍♀️

No, Bulldog Briscoe really was popular. I could see why you'd think he wasn't if you hated him, but he was so popular that he went from being billed as being a guest star in the early days of the show to becoming a regular not long afterward.

He was somewhat one-dimensional. An overall a-hole who is disrespectful to women and everyone in general.

Finally some character growth when he became Alice's babysitter... but that was short-lived.

Looking back at those promotional photos, he seems really out of place. I wonder if they intended for him to be a bigger character than he turned out to be, more on par with Roz.

I don’t really find guys sexy per say as a straight dude. Obviously, I can tell if a guy is attractive though. I never really got that vibe. However, I think his character was much better in moderation. He was probably in way too many episodes early on and too few later on.

u/see3milyplay 4h ago

I do lol, even though his personality in a real life person would repulse me. I didn’t watch Frasier as it aired though. Good question!

Not to go all Freud but how's your relationship with your father?

3

u/Mrs_Evryshot 1h ago

He’s very handsome, and he has an engaging smile. But he’s too short for me.

My favorite Bulldog episode is the Bachelor Auction. Him and Daphne in the limousine and the stuff she was saying to him was a hoot.

Well this was something sitcoms did more than once. A balding older man who pulls women constantly. They really screwed his character in the reboot. You’re telling me a man now in his 50s suddenly is gay. Yes he himself is gay in real life. But it was such a stupid rewrite him that way. Yeah you finally figured out you’re gay at 50?! Come on.

1

u/drglass85 2h ago

it does happen

3

u/britelyph 3h ago

His OVer-alpha-tizing of his relationships screams of small dick syndrome. But yes. His body and his manliness gets me going!

4

u/wereallmadhere9 3h ago

Nah, the sexual harassment really turns me off.

1

u/Mollymae609 4h ago

Bulldog reminds me of Ralphie from the Sopranos and Rocket Romano from ER. They are all hilarious.

Absolutely, yeah

u/This_Bodybuilder_185 4h ago

Bulldog was funny but not sexy.

0

u/No_Case_2670 49m ago

He sexually harasses as easily as he breathes. I hate people like that. Idk how women/men watching a TV show would find that to be sexy, no matter what he looks like. But people are weird.

Do we not only need to start sentences with like, but entire posts!? Like see how annoying it is?

So you find me annoying 💀
