CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Allergy?

Post image
24 Upvotes

We’ve been trying to look for a formula to help supplement my breast milk. So far we’ve tried Enfamil RTF (LO vomiting), Kabrita Goat milk (rash), Alimentum (rash), and the latest HIPP HA Combiotik. Our pedia said it’s too early to test for CMPA and I’ve been dairy free for 2 weeks now. Is this an allergy or should I try and give HIPP for another day again? What else can we try for formula?

Thanks in advance.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Formula beyond 12 months

First time formula mum so I have many questions as we near 12 months of age. Our doctor hasn't given me much guidance on feeding but we have been prescribed and told to formula feed until closer to 15-16 months to meet dietary needs as my baby hasn't outgrown her CMPI. My question is, how does formula feeding look beyond 12 months? I have been researching online but seeing lots of mixed things and mostly for babies who can go to regular cows milk.

Do I begin a straw cup at meal time or closer to nap and bedtime? How many times do I offer formula per day? Our doctor didn't really answer any of this and our next dietician appointment isn't until the end of June.

We turn 1 next Monday and currently refusing the midday bottle.

Thank you

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI CMPA, been wondering but Breakouts/Full symptoms at 8 weeks. Anyone whose baby had CMPA?

To update, her pediatrician appt is on the 5th. Wic appt 6th. Her pediatrician said she "doesn't agree with the formula change but as she has already been taking it, she attached the Rx to send to wic". It is missing a signature & "how many month" to use it for, as well. I guess I will ask her in person on the 5th, then. She said that is just a baby rash & shes "glad it cleared up" but I didnt even do anything for it to clear up but continue to use aveeno/aquaphor ... No change in routine besides her diet. Oh well, at least she wrote it & I will ask for a paper copy to take it &- cite they didnt like it w/o a signature and, without length of time checked off. Can't really type bc have to soothe baby.

She's BEEN fussy, intolerable for the last 48 hr on Gentleease.

Urgent care appt, tommarow, this baby has slept less than 5 hr in 24hr, so made the appt, it is in 14 hours....

She has a sudden & worsening rash on face, ears, thighs.

My mom thinks using Hypoallegernic formula isnt needed, as she was fussy, had gas .... She was a difficult baby , but not necessarily colic until...

2 days ago... Last night total of 8/9 and her Normal small naps. Super colicky which is out of nowhere, Rash "fades" &, reappears with new feed of Gentleease

Any suggestions for cross post?

* apologize for typos.I am doing my best to correct them...But I have to use voice to text given the situation... & My parents are helping.

Basically did anyone's baby flare up CMPA at 7/8 weeks. like I said , I suspected it before that , but they told me unless she has bloody BM, shes fine.

She has a cough, boogers, sneeze [had a cold getting better]

Sudden and severe onset of rash

Colic 12/10

No sleep from slept at night fought sleep in the day.

Thanks. see pics for her skin rash different in 3 days. Idk what to do, anymore because her pediatrician says she does not need it., but she will Rx it anyways? because she has been on it

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI possible cow’s milk protein allergy and worried

Hello all, I’m new here. I’ve been exclusively formal feeding my baby since her birth in December. We’ve consistently had issues with severe gas, discomfort, and sometimes excessive spit up despite thorough burping attempts. She has been on Enfamil Gentelease for the last 2 months because of this, but she is still extremely uncomfortable. She is usually a very happy baby and loves to eat, but struggles after feeds. It has slowly been getting worse now, with bouts of bad constipation and now bloody-murder screaming sometimes after feeds, along her usual groans and grunts.

Her doctor is giving me a sample of Nutramigen to try. I’m looking for advice/reassurance. For those that have tried this formula, have you noticed a difference in your baby? What should I expect as she transitions to the new formula? Any insight on what else I could do to relieve her pain? We already use gas drops and do lots of leg exercises.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Those with CMPI

If your baby was diagnosed with CMPI and you started exposing them to cow's milk successfully did you change their formula back to a cow milk based one?

My almost 7 month old is reacting well to yogurt and has also been doing well with Dr. Brown's soy formula which we try to give him once a day, but all of his other feeds are Nutramigen and purees/food. We know he needs to stay on some formula until he's 12 months old but I'm wondering if we should step him down from Nutramigen to Gentlease or some sort of gentle formula or can we go to like a regular similac/enfamil if he tolerates it?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has been on this journey.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Neocate (Amino Acid Based Formula) Advice Needed!

My 4-month-old was recently switched to an amino acid–based formula (Neocate syneo) after blood was found in her stool and her pediatrician suspected CMPA. She also has reflux.

Since switching, she really seems to hate the taste and her intake has dropped. She’s only taking about 2–3 oz every 3 hours. We’ve thickened the formula so she’s getting more calories per ounce, but I’m still worried about how little she’s eating.

For those who’ve been through this:

• How long did it take your baby to adjust to the taste of an amino acid formula?

• How long did it take to see improvement in symptoms like fussiness, blood in stool, or mucusy diapers?

I know every baby is different, but I’d really appreciate hearing others’ experiences!!

My little one is 4 weeks old. For the past couple weeks she's been very gassy and spitting up a lot. Sometimes its just a small amount, others its a large amount. I noticed this rash(?) on her forehead. I'm a ftm and I have anxiety so idk if I'm worried for nothing. Does this look like CMPA?

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI CMPA formula - don’t know what to do

Quick summary: nutramigen and alemintum rtf aren’t working well even after long adjustment. Pediatrician discouraged me from changing him but I don’t really feel like I have an option. Very sensitive belly, reflux, won’t poop but not constipated, etc

Okay so my baby has suspected cmpa. Colic, reflux, rash, diarrhea on cows milk formula in the hospital. They switched him to sensitive which was just as bad. Pediatrician suggested Nutramigen. We were on this for around 3 weeks and he almost seemed worse. He had blood and mucus in his stool, which was almost like clay. Nonstop screaming. Pediatrician said keep going with it even though he admitted he should be adjusted at that point (I’m currently in the process of looking for a new one…)
So, I made the executive decision to switch to Alemintum ready to feed, after researching. He did improve slightly, not quite as colicky and no more blood but he won’t poop on it. His poop is soft and normal when he goes but he has developed dyschezia. GI specialist said this was probably because he had such a bad time on nutramigen that now he’s actually fighting the urge to go. He also had X-rays and a barium enema done, and nothing is physically wrong thank goodness.
However, his alemintum seems to not be doing as good. He is so refluxy and spitting up so much, screaming and colicky again, still no poop without lactulose or windi gaspasser…. Just seems miserable. They told me to even add cereal to his bottles and I tried, which I was apprehensive about, and he ended up spitting up worse. Which was scary, since the formula was thicker. He has been on alemintum for over a month now. Only RTF.
We also tried goat at one point, briefly, as I had heard such good things. That definitely confirmed the milk allergy in my mind though because it was a nightmare.
I’ve talked to both his GI specialist and pediatrician and both told me to put him back on nutramigen. Which he did horribly on! I’m so confused. People keep suggesting soy, but I’ve heard there’s cross reactivity. Willing to try it is anyone else can vouch for it. And of course i know there’s amino acid based but know someone who’s baby was hospitalized on one of those due to a really bad reaction so I’m honestly just scared and at a loss and doctors haven’t helped at all, including specialists. I’ve even considered having sprout organic or HiPP shipped, but really would rather get something domestic for availability reasons. But still willing if it comes to it.
Anyone have any insight or wisdoms? I feel like his whole newborn stage is being robbed from him and us and he’s the sweetest baby when he isn’t miserable. He’ll just smile and babble and you can literally watch his face tense up and change as tummy pain hits. I’m so at a loss!

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Cow milk allergy baby

Hello! I am a FTM and I have a almost two month old. When he turned one month old we found out he has a cows milk allergy (after switching between 6 different brands/types of formula) and had to be switched to hypoallergenic formula. All of which is super expensive so we’ve tried parents choice (an alternative brand) and it gave my son the worst rash ever. I mean I can’t even wipe my poor child without him screaming in pain so now we are pretty much spraying him down with warm water instead of wipes and letting him air dry. He’s also spitting up more than usual and pooping like crazy. We had him on Similac AL but it’s 64 dollars for the 19.8 oz cans (INSANE).

Does anyone know of ways to possibly get cheaper Similac AL? And yes we have tried to apply to WIC and we made 200 dollars more than what is approved for. I am stuck in a hard place..

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI starting puramino - extreme cmpa and i have concerns

this is a long one!

we’ve started puramino (2-3wks ish ago) because my 12wk old CMPA and reflux (and possibly worse GI issues) are the worst his pediatrician has seen. we are still in the transition phase technically because we cannot afford puramino and wic provides 9 cans a months, my son needs about 15-16 cans a month so we are mixing with nutramigen (he’s been on nutramigen since 2.5wks old) samples from the ped office until we can get my insurance to cover the extra 6-7 cans of puramino

now my son has had watery/pee like consistency poops/diarrhea (dark blue/green/grey color) for at least 1-2wks (like it gets absorbed by the diaper like it was pee) we really haven’t seen any change but we are still mixing the formula so idk if that correlates. he is on reflux meds as he has severe reflux

my LO has good and bad days, goes purple when he cries (ped is not happy about it and keeping an eye on that) very fussy, spits up a lot still, coughs like crazy all the time, clicks every time he sucks on his bottle but not with his pacifier or our fingers, still gaining weight perfectly, eats 26-36oz a day (3-6oz bottles 6 times a day), sleeps 10-11hrs a night (sleeps through the night since 3wks which is normal for my very big kids, 99%tiles), 3-5hrs a day between 3-5 naps, he’s rolling (since 5wks) and scooting himself like he’s trying to crawl when on tummy time. we’re just so confused and concerned :(

for other parents who has used puramino or elemental/amino acid formulas what is normal and what’s not? and does it sound like it could be anything more than just CMPA? my ped has ideas but nothing we can test until he’s older/started solids/been on puramino for longer

TIA

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Experience with PurAmino?

My baby was just prescribed PurAmino and antacid meds for CMPA and reflux. Curious what other people experienced with this formula and how long it took to see an improvement or decide against it? Giving it 2 weeks at least for sure of course but was just wondering.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Mucus?

Help! First time mom… My baby is 3 months old and has been on Similac Alimentum for 4 weeks now (RTF for 3 weeks now and powder for 1 week prior). I don’t think I have seen any blood in his stool but I think I’m seeing mucus. He’s super fussy and gassy. He is still arching his back during feeds and pushing the bottle away. We did start Pepcid 3 days ago so I’m hoping that will help. I’m just at a loss as to what to do next if this isn’t working still. I brought it up to his pediatrician that he’s not gaining weight as fast as he should so he recommended adding milk-based Fortini as a supplement but even though I expressed that he can’t handle milk, my concerns just fell on deaf ears. His other recommendation was Enfamil AR which is also milk-based. I did try the Fortini the past two days (Thursday and Friday), just 4 oz once a day for both days. Last night (Saturday) he cried bloody murder his tummy was hurting him so bad. He also broke out in red spots all over his face from it right after drinking it. I should have trusted my gut but I also didn’t want to go against medical advice. Should I just go ahead and switch him to an amino acid based formula myself? I wanted to go through his doctor to have it properly documented and potentially get help with costs for it through insurance but I don’t want to see my baby suffering anymore. I’ve also considered asking for a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI CMPA - BioGaia Probiotics

Our twins were born at 27 weeks, are 3.5 months actual and 11 days adjusted. One spits up more often and can even scream with discomfort from gas or constipation. The other is starting to get more upset. They were/are given 8 ml of prune juice 3x daily. The NICU follow up clinic recommended we try biogaia probiotics, especially given that my twin more prone to spit up and reflux got a lot of antibiotics during his NICU stay. They both have CMPA and have been on an amino acid formula for about 2 weeks now.

It seems to have made his spitting up worse and the twin who hardly spit up is spitting up more often and more fussy. It’s only been 2 days, and only 2 drops per day per their provider.

I keep seeing a lot of worse before it gets better and that it actually made things worse for some people

So much so that they stopped use. Looking for experience stories.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI RTF v Powder Formula

We started combo feeding after weight concerns at around 4m and he did fine w rtf similac rtf, but since I became too anxious that he wasn’t eating enough my milk started dipping and I started using Bobby gentle ease due to silent reflux and bc I thought it was the cleaner formula. This was terrible bc he started pooping w lots of mucus an constant spit up. So Dr suggested Alimentun RTF due to suspected cmpa.

We’ve been doing rtf for 3 weeks but it’s so expensive! So we got powder and started using 5days ago & we’ve noticed he’s spitting up again, & having gas pains, crying at the bottle (same as w the Bobby).

So I’m wondering if it’s a powder issue? Has anyone have that happened? Should I try another rtf formula like similac sensitive?

Any advice is appreciated. We have a Dr appointment in a couple weeks, was thinking also of asking insurance to cover rtf alimentun but not sure if he has to have a diagnosis first.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Hypoallergenic Formula help!

Our LO (3 months) was recently “diagnosed” (I use the term loosely since there was no testing done) with CMPA, the only signs are the congested breathing sound and dry skin. We thought she just had a cold but after a month of congested breathing we took her in and the PED said it was most likely CMPA, due to her laying down and refluxing that’s irritating her nasal cavity. No spitting up, no colic, no trouble pooping, not gassy. Any other parents go through this where the CMPA isn’t that extreme as you see online? PED said we didn’t HAVE to switch formula and that she’s not in discomfort but to switch her to get rid of the congested breathing sounds.

What did you do? Please help, FTM and I don’t know what to do. I can’t justify Nutramigen since it’s so expensive and her symptoms aren’t severe. Previously on the Members Mark gentle formula.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI CMPA help

Hi guys, need some advice LO currently 14 weeks. LO was diagnosed CMPA very young like 2 weeks due to inability to pass bowels on cows milk and severe constipation on it. When we moved to nutramigen she broke out in a rash, little red dots that eventually spread everywhere. The docs assumed it was due to cows protein and we had 2 episodes of a spec of blood on the nappy, not mixed with the poop. We then went to Neocate and it cleared up rash wise but poos became explosive and full of thick mucus. We were put on puramino and the rash came back! Then they tried us on alfamino and she was going crazy with bowel pain and broke out in red blotches. Finally they put us back on Neocate and she’s really constipated on it and the rash she had before has come back and is starting to spread. We had to give her a suppository tonight to pass bowels she hadn’t gone In a few days and I saw light brown maybe copper streaks 2 of them mixed in with the poo. The consistency of the poo was formed poo, it was like mushy still not super hard but a few solid lumps. Her last poo was Monday, it was natural poo and it was thick paste.

Really do not know what to do at all. Obviously going to seek medical advice but I’m not even sure if it’s CMPA now. I think she’s definitely soy allergy. Could she be coconut allergy? She’s been back on Neocate 3 weeks now. Any advice appreciated.

She’s also got reflux from complications from laryngomalacia and is on ng tube feed top ups Had supra surgery for it 5 weeks ago. She has tongue tie and has trouble oral feeding from tongue tie, reflux from ng and laryngomalacia. She’s also on omeprazole 16mg which may be making her constipated but she needs to be on it. Thank u.

Side note: also had lots of issues with the medical team we were admitted to hospital for over a month with her laryngomalacia and constipation issues. They told me before it’s extremely rare to be coconut allergy and dietician said it may just be a sensitive stomach and not CMPA. But they don’t wanna change her feed again (understandably) and neither do we but not sure what to do at all here

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI CMPA?

Baby is 3 months now and developed severe constipation at 8 days old, couldn’t pass stool on cows milk. It was always hard lumps and lots of crying and straining. We were put on nutramigen and baby developed a rash, but could pass bowels herself all be them very dry. Then we were put on neocate but baby had a few issues going on with feeding due to laryngomalcia so feeding became a mess and ng was required. The rash cleared up. We were then put on puramino due to extreme feeding discomfort. The rash came back. It made me think the rash was related to soy as it came on with Nutramigen and puramino. We were put neocate again and the baby was constipated again and strains during it so I’d back on laxatives so I don’t know if it’s CMPA or not. The first time we was on neocate her stool was explosive and mucousy for weeks. It’s all so odd. The Neocate is making everything so bad for the feeding and we are getting oral feeding aversion. Any advice appreciated.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Any babies on Neocate?

Post image

I’m not sure if this is allowed but I would like to give away 3 cans of Neocate formula samples (just pay for shipping please, within USA).

I received Neocate samples from allergist office but I ended up not needing them. They are new and unopened. This is an amino acid-based formula.

I would like them to go to baby in need. I tried giving it away locally but there is no way to know if baby is already on this formula or not. I don’t feel comfortable giving it to someone who doesn’t need this. My only request is that you also send me a picture that your baby is already on this formula (pic of opened can with your username would be fine). I requested the same thing to someone who asked to pick up locally and they ghosted me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I will send over proof picture with date & username if you are interested.

My heart goes out to all the parents who are dealing with trying to figuring out your baby’s allergies. It was a stressful journey and I am grateful that we ended up not needing this.

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI My baby switched to Nutramigen today and hates it, help!

My 7 week old daughter has suspected CMPA and has been prescribed 8 tubs of nutramigen. We started her on it today, so far she’s had 3 bottles and the last 10 hours have been awful.

She absolutely hates it - I suspect the taste as I tried it and it’s AWFUL. So much worse than standard formula. She’s taking less of the bottle and is clearly still hungry but is refusing it.

She is absolutely hysterical after feeding her - by the time we’ve finally calmed her down, it’s time for her next bottle and we repeat the process.

I feel awful for putting her through this (she’s on a two week trial) - please tell me it gets easier!
