Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 I know it has been said - PLEASE throw away your bottles/pitchers/pacifiers if you were using Byheart

Epidemiologist here - you CAN NOT sterilize botulinum spores. So, if you want to mitigate risk factors, unfortunately you need to throw everything away that was involved in making baby's formula or regularly in their mouth.

ETA: you can use a very specific procedure to use a bleach solution. In my professional opinion, I wouldn't risk it. But, given not everyone has the means to replace everything - please reach out to your local public health department for instructions on properly using a bleach solution if you want to go that route.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Formula Feeding On The Go

Hi everyone!

Second time mom here, exclusively BF my first but going to formula route this second time around, so everything is new to me! Whats the best way to formula feed on the go? We already used bottled water in our house, is it best to just bring a bottle of water with me, along with a bottle and some formula? Which type of formula dispenser do you prefer, those “stackable” pre portioned ones or just a little travel one where you scoop it out? (Pics attached) Do you always bring a travel bottle washing set with you if you’ll be gone for a whole day? Any tips appreciated!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Buy the counter top dishwasher!!

Just as a PSA, if you can find an affordable counter top dishwasher get it!! I thought my husband was a little nutty months ago when he bought this beautiful machine off of facebook marketplace. Our little girl was 4-5 weeks old at the time and I thought he must just be sleep deprived and tired of washing bottles. Boy was I wrong! Yes it takes up my counter space next to the sink and that drives me bananas but it’s worth it. I just rinse the bottles and put them in this little things and away they go! My main dishwasher is just kinda older and I didn’t love the idea of washing her bottles with our regular dishes at first. This little dishwasher is super easy to keep clean and I don’t need to do a full load of dishes to run it! Or worry about putting regular dishes away to empty the dishwasher to make room for bottles. It holds 8 bottles and some accessories. I absolutely love it.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 How did you decide to buy a formula maker? Was it actually worth it?

I’ve still got a little time before baby gets here, but I keep going back and forth on whether a formula maker is actually worth buying or just another baby gadget people convince themselves they need lol. Before getting pregnant I honestly thought they sounded unnecessary. Making a bottle didn’t seem THAT hard and I figured I’d just do it manually. But now that everything’s feeling more real, especially thinking about MOTN feeds, postpartum exhaustion, and washing bottles nonstop, I can kind of understand why so many parents love them. At the same time though, they’re expensive and the opinions online are sooo mixed. I’m not looking for judgment either way because fed is best and every family’s different. I’m mostly curious what made you decide to buy one (or skip it), and whether it actually made life easier postpartum or ended up being something you could’ve lived without. Would especially love hearing from EFF parents, combo feeders, or anyone dealing with nonstop newborn feeds lol.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Pitcher vs Baby Breeza

Hi! I am a FTM and plan to formula feed. I am trying to decide what would be the best set up for me. I am less worried about the cost and more about convenience - whatever is quicker to clean and makes my life easier.

Option 1: Use formula pitcher + bottle warmer. For night time pre-make bottles, buy a mini fridge and extra bottle warmer for my bedroom / nursery, so that I don’t have to go downstairs to the kitchen.

Option 2: Get two Baby Breezas - one for downstairs one for upstairs). Get extra funnels since you have to clean the funnel frequently.

Would appreciate any advice!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Favorite Bottle(s)?

What is everyone’s favorite bottle for their LO. Exclusively FF so don’t care about the “breast like” aspect really. Looking more for easily cleanable ones, better materials/ quality, least amount of air intake?

Currently using Dr Browns and looking to switch now that baby is willing to take other bottles! We have Nuk Perfect Match and like them just curious if there’s other really good ones out there!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Does anyone else meal prep like this?

Lo is 8 weeks and we've never done the boil water to sterilize formula, pediatrician said it wasn't necessary.

I ordered a wide mouth mason jar papablic mixer and in each jar I do 24 oz of distilled water and the little jars perfectly hold 104g of formula. This fills the 32oz mason jars.

I see alot of people recommend the Dr. Brown pitcher, which is completely made of plastic. I try to use mason jars as much as I can. Even found out the comotomo nipples fit on the small mason jars in a pinch.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Anyone keep a mini fridge in the bedroom/nursery for night feeds?

we’ve been thinking about getting a small mini fridge for the bedroom/nursery to make overnight feeds easier, especially for prepped bottles or the pitcher method

right now i’m just trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it or if it sounds more useful in theory than it ends up being. mostly wondering about convenience, noise, and whether people actually found it made those middle of the night feeds less annoying

i like the idea of having bottles right there instead of going back and forth to the kitchen, but i also don’t want to buy something that ends up being more clutter than help

if you did this, did you feel like it was worth it? and what did you usually keep it in overnight?

Edit: Thanks for the recommendations guys! I read the comments and made a list for future readers:

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Bottle Warmer

Fastest bottle warmer on the market? When baby is screaming for 6 minutes waiting for 4 oz to be heated I am about ready to lose my mind. Longest 6 minutes ever!!

Edit: have to premix his formula because we have to fortify it to higher cal per our pediatrician

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 What is this hype about baby breeza?

I’m not from the US.

Could someone explain it to me why people are hyping over 300$ formula dispenser? Reminds me of these ‚startup’ juice squeezers „Juicero” that seems like an overkill to something which is…extremely simple to prepare?

Why not 40$ bottle warmer and putting a water bottle into it to be at ready-to-eat temperature at all times, to which one can just add formula straight before feeding?

Am I missing something?

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Baby Brezza accuracy?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi! We just bought the baby brezza formula advanced pro or whatever it is called lol. We’ve noticed tho her formula is more watery than if we were to mix it by hand. In photo 1, the dot of almost clear looking water is her “formula” from the brezza, and on the right is her formula from mixing it by hand. Shouldn’t they look the same? And in the other photo is her bottle from the brezza and it just looks so watery and off compared to her other bottles. We’ve got the right settings and everything seems to be working fine on machine, I’ve even called customer service. But just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? We use similac 360 total care for our girl.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Philips Avent Bottles

I know these bottles are notoriously slow but I wanted to see if anyone else’s baby is similar.

9 week old is on a level 5 already. He takes a 4 overnight but during the day it’s way too slow. He prefers these bottles so I don’t want to switch but was anyone else’s baby on a 5 so soon??

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Farewell my amazing FF friends

Little man just turned 13 months and we are finishing up our last can of formula. We are completely weaned off bottles, and drink a half formula half whole milk sippy before bed.

Before I leave the sub, I just wanted to say how much this space meant for me this past year. I learned so much, and felt so supported in my choice to formula feed.

A couple drops of wisdom from my year here

1) boiling water is to sterilize the formula, not the water

2) the best formula is the one that works for baby and is easily accessible for you. Generics are great. Sam’s Club and Costco generics are the cheapest.

3) pitcher method or baby brezza are going to be your two best convenience options. You decide which one you like best. People have strong opinions on both.

4) I loved lansinoh bottles/nipples, ride or die from the first day home from the hospital. EXCEPT their biggest bottle is so small! It’s impossible to mix a bottle once you get to about 6 oz. The fix: lansinoh nipples fit perfect in MAM bottles, and they make 9 and 11 oz bottles. I never made a bottle over 8 oz but you need swirling room!

5) and finally, if you’re in the US, don’t buy imported formula from the internet!! There is nothing wrong with domestic formula! And certainly nothing worth the risk of fraudulent or tampered with formula, or one that’s been opened and inspected by customs.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Positive Baby Brezza Stories?

Naturally when you search people’s experiences you’re going to get the bad stories - I know that’s part of the confirmation bias.

Im a new baby brezza user to make our Bobbi Bottles. After reading about some people’s challenges, I guess I’m looking for positive experiences as well.

Throw em at me!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Absolutely no way I can afford the Baby Brezza. Is there an alternative?

My daughter does not like cold formula. However, Nutramigen cannot be warmed up. However, making a bottle one at a time is horrible and doesn't work so well when you're by yourself.

I stumbled across the Brezza and holy hell it's a dream. Literally a dream because I'll never have it.

Anyone know of any alternative? Anyone? Anyone?

Baby girl is waking up right now so I won't have time to do a Google deep dive for a bit

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Is a formula pitcher gimmicky?

I saw some feedback that the Dr brown pitcher is great, and I know only $10, but does it really help? Just wondering if I could use a large mason jar instead and shake that up?

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 How often do you sanitize bottles and how old is your baby?

My baby is 3 months old next week and I still sanitize after he uses a bottle once. I’m not sure if this is overkill. Third time mom but my other two are 10 & 11 so it’s been a while. But I just returned to work so I’m finding this less feasible now. The daycare bottles I sanitize first use either way since they sat there uncleaned all day, but when I’m home I’m not sure.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Electric kettle method > Baby Brezza

My husband and I are big tea/matcha/coffee drinkers and so we already had an electric kettle you could set to specific temperatures before we had our baby. I fretted over whether to get the Baby Brezza dispenser for a long time and it’s just really not worth it for us — our $40 electric kettle heats up in about 30 seconds to the perfect 130 degrees that our Bobbie formula suggests. I pre-measure formula scoops so it’s ready to go and requires minimal brain power late at night. I think more people in the U.S. should use a kettle and skip the Brezza. Not worth the cost!

Edit to add: I'm not a hater :-) I just want folks (especially U.S.-based) to know about electric kettles. They are cheaper and there is a lot of expensive stuff marketed to new moms. I was excited to be able to use something we already owned and it worked for us. You do you!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 If you use Philips Avent anti-colic bottles… PLEASE read this before your 4am mental breakdown 😭

Okay I need to share this because I learned it the HARDEST way possible.

Our baby had reflux, so we got those Philips Avent bottles with the green insert to help with air and spit-ups.

For MONTHS this is what we were doing: Make formula → close bottle → put it in warmer → feed baby.

Looks totally fine when you take it out.

But then while feeding… it starts leaking. Like fully leaking.

Milk everywhere. Baby soaked. Clothes change. New bottle. Crying (both baby and me 🥲).

And this always happened at like 4am when you're already half dead.

We kept thinking we didn’t close it properly but that wasn’t the issue.

Finally figured it out the hard way: When you heat the bottle AFTER assembling it, something happens inside (maybe pressure or whatever) and it starts leaking.

What worked for us: Warm the milk first without the green insert, and then assemble the bottle with the green insert.

Then feed

After doing this we had no leaks.

Just putting this out there in case it saves one tired parent from losing their mind in the middle of the night like we did.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Bottle Recommendations??

My son is 2 weeks old. I originally bought Evenflo Wide Neck bottles because I planned on combo feeding. That is not the case anymore and he is EFF. He’s really struggling with tummy issues (mostly gas)… so I’m wondering if he’s swallowing too much air from the bottles.

Any recommendations for a good bottle for my EFF newborn? Thanks!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 baby brezza or dr browns pitcher?

did you find the baby brezza or the dr browns pitcher easier? we have been using the pitcher (making a days worth the night before) but we just got a baby brezza for free (the heating function is broken so we would have to warm up the bottles regardless)

incase it’s important my LO is on nutramigen due to severe CMPA (4wks old 5oz bottles 6-7 bottles a day) both of my sons (21m toddler) ate/eat A LOT

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Pitcher in fridge method

I’m planning on buying a pitcher for my LO’s formula during the day (so I can warm it) but have no idea about the pitcher method til I saw a reel about it. Would like to try it to save time and energy.

Hoping some of you can answer my questions about it:
•What picture do you recommend?
•How many ounces do you usually put?
•How long should your mixed formula be in the pitcher/fridge before it goes bad?

Thank you for your help!🥹🍼
