It was much more socially acceptable to let your baby scream for hours back then

Yes, it was. But for most moms the baby crying triggers such a stress response that they cuddle the baby anyway or do whatever it needs. A lot of my friends for example couldn't handle their baby crying in the first year and were either very stressed or started crying themselves, especially if the baby just won't stop crying

This. Some people are just wired to tune that shit out. Cause when mine is crying I can feel it in every inch of my nervous system!
