Girl why are you here

Because my baby is on formula. I'm not attacking or judging, just asking questions and stating what's written on the formuoa we use. My question so breast is not the best, has 50 downvotes from people who feel attacked by a question. I honestly asked because my baby is on formula and I felt bad I didn't give more breastmilk.

FED is best. Breast or bottle, as long as they’re not hungry. Scientifically, especially due to antibodies, breastmilk is best. That doesn’t diminish how far formula has come & how well babies thrive while on it. Don’t feel bad for not giving baby more breastmilk. Whether it’s a supply issue, or a personal choice, formula is a very valid food source for babies. Science has truly come a very long way with it & it’s better now than it ever has been.

And if it worked then, think of how great it must be after another 60 years of research and development!

Love to hear that it's neutral🤩

Formula and breastmilk are equal, use what works best for your baby and your family.

Best for the baby? Most likely. Best for the mother? Depends. Unlikely. Since there are great alternatives, mothers shouldn't be judged now if they choose"second" best.

I truly don't get the downvotes. What did I say wrong?

Sure. I'm just thinking breast is best meaning it's nutritionaly best for the baby and if for some reason it can't be done than formula is good option.

ā€œIf for some reasonā€ how about we let everyone make their own choices based on whatever the hell they want lol

8

u/New_Enthusiasm_7578 Mar 25 '26

Well reason is also someone not wanting to breastfeed

u/Tamryn Mar 25 '26

Sorry you’re getting downvoted. As a formula feeder to 2 babies, I have always found the ā€œfed is bestā€ slogan to be condescending. Obviously fed is better than not fed, but I don’t think there are a lot of people who are choosing between feeding their baby and not feeding their baby. We don’t say ā€œfed is bestā€ to the people wanting to make their own formula at home. The choice is between breastfeeding and formula feeding. It’s ok to acknowledge that breast milk is the best case scenario, but formula is also a good choice (and not one to be ashamed of), and sometimes the only choice, depending on the circumstances.

They're nutritionally equal, formula matches the nutrient profile of breastmilk.

There are some rare cases when breast milk is actually worse than special formula, but they are cases like that. There aren't enough evidence and tbh they are hard to find that antibodies from breast milk have a significant impact long term. Overall what's best depends on numerous factors, so it's an individual experience.

Breast is worsešŸ™ŒšŸ» The new slogan 😁 (Joking, I have to say because people here so serious)

29

u/beepbopnotabot_yet Mar 25 '26

Only best for the baby when there is enough breast milk and when the breast milk is safe (thinking unsafe medications, etc). There are so many caveats even when saying best for the baby.

14

u/PermanentTrainDamage Mar 25 '26

And the baby actually puts in the effort to consume enough (looking at you, second kid🤣)

3

u/OohWeeTShane Mar 25 '26

Even with formula my second kid wouldn’t just freaking eat! He’s 14 months old now and I’m considering taking him for a weight check because he still isn’t a great eater.

I agree, I'm formula feeding my baby too. I just don't agree with this comment saying that people think breast is best because formulas in the past weren't that good. Because breast is better than the formula from 2026 too, it's printed on my formula package🫠

25

u/coolbandshirt Mar 25 '26

Pretty sure they are required to put that on the label

Book recommendation:

Lactivism: How Feminists and Fundamentalists, Hippies and Yuppies, and Physicians and Politicians Made Breastfeeding Big Business and Bad Policy by Courtney Jung

Because of nestle who got loads of people using formula through promoting samples and then when their breast milk dried up they couldnt afford the formula.

And because of Lactivism. Breastfeeding is a huge industry with a completely captive audience. Unless you are in the position where you are financially and physically able to exclusively nurse your child from the breast, with no supply/latch issues etc the industry can make literal thousands from selling breast pumping products and supplements etc that desperate mothers will shell out ridiculous amounts of money on because they are told that if they do not choose breast milk then it is a moral failing on their part and that they are a bad parent.
