Trip report 4 Days in Munich: Solo Female Traveller from Canada

Loved Munich for its very local feel. Liked it more than Vienna (sorry /wien ;)

No issues travelling here for the first time as a solo female traveler.

- Stayed at Hilton Munich City (Haidhausen)
- Took public transit; so easy
- Walked whenever I ate too much, haha
- Visited the Pinakothek Musem (modern art lover!)
- EUR1 Museum Sundays, amazing
- Skipped the palaces as I’ve had my fill from Vienna (first leg of journey)
- HBF chaotic just like any other major city train stations
- Asian food representation strong, woot woot
- Munchen locals are nicer than Wien locals

Will happily return to this amazing city. Heading to Prague now on the Alex 😎

Vienna has its pros as well as cons, but I also prefer Munich... it's less 'cold' than Vienna,I also find the local people in Munich more open and friendlier.

It does attract plenty of tourists. But they seem to stand out less.Apart from Oktoberfest time!

100% agree. I really loved all the touristy attractions and had chance to watch symphony at the Musikverein. Soo good!

Yes I thought it was just a stereotype but it’s really not. Thank you!

I loved Munich! I loved the lime scooters, too. It made it so much fun to get around.

You didn’t mention…but, what was your favourite beer?!

I’m from Prague and want to say that we might appear unfriendly as well, so please be prepared for that. But in reality it’s just the standart “I’m doing my thing” attitude and the no-small talk culture so we look kind of cold lol. But hopefully you enjoy your stay!

Oh and our food looks kind of weird to foreigners so don’t be discouraged by it and try it as I think it is really good!

being from a major city in Canada I totally understand the mind your own/ mind my own business. Thank you for the heads up though, and looking forward to tasting the Praha delicacies. :)

Any favourite spots or activities you did in Munich? I’ll be flying from Canada in the next few weeks.

I’m also Canadian 🇨🇦

Wandering around the city is good. I went to the Pinakothek museum as I like modern art - definitely go, single ticket EUR10.

Viktualienmarkt is touristy but lovely to browse, drink wine (or beer if you prefer) and eat the leberkase sandwich.

Maxvorstadt is near old town and very local with university and museums around. Walk around and enjoy. There is a restaurant there called Datang Malatang which is great for solo traveller like me. Delicious hotpot!

Walk along the river :)

Munich is a great city. I spent 5 days there on a solo trip myself last September. Some of my favourite places were the Hofbräuhaus for the beer and food (a bit touristy but I met both Germans and other nationalities in there), lake starnberg amazing views of the lake and alps.

The deutsche museum was absolutely massive with so much to see and so interesting, the parks such as Englischen Garten for the surfers and beer gardens and the Hirschgarten for the deer and beer gardens. Also the Nymphenburg Palace gardens were also beautiful.

The food is delicious, Schweinshaxe, currywurst, weißwürste, schnitzel and pretzels.

I hope to go back one day but I want to visit places such as Berlin before going back.
