Discussion [discussion] Make packs cost less konomi

When I first started playing the game (when it first came out) I thought 50 gems was way too expensive for a single card pack. In the game's early days that wasn't such a huge problem because gems were funneled to the players pretty heavily through maintenance apologies, the app launching in other countries, x number of downloads, etc. Now we don't get nearly the amount of gems that we used to, but that's only half the problem. The other side to it is now we have 11 different boxes available not counting structure decks, that alone isn't bad, it's great to have a large cardpool so a lot of different decks can be played. What's bad is that to make a good or "meta" deck nowadays it is almost mandatory to have high rarity cards from multiple boxes. This in turn makes gems buy less of a percentage of a good deck than it used to because there isn't necessarily more than one card for the meta deck you want to build in a single box. (I should know, I spend over 1700 gems and maxed out sale iaps on Valkyrie's Rage for my 3 soul exchanges but didn't need anything else out of the box) I think konomi needs to make packs cost less so the value of a gem in today's game is closer to the value of a gem when duel links first came out.

tl;dr gems don't buy you as much of a meta deck as they used to so packs should cost less

Why exactly should meta cards cost less than non-meta cards, when they are all released from random backs in box sets? If we were buying cards in-game 1 by 1, I might be able see this working. But we're buying packs at a time, so lowering the price of an entire box's packs just because it has good cards in it doesn't even sound smart. If we want to compare to the real world, which someone already has with their car comparison, meta cards actually cost MORE money when sold. It's not rare for a card to be $50+ dollars, and for a single card too. Obviously I dob't want that for this game. Obviously I too wish that every card pack costed 1 gem. But from Konami's point of view, there really is no good reason to lower the price of card packs, just because they have good cards in them. If you are unable to stay competitive because you're missing out on cards, just don't play competitive this season and start playing competitive again when you have a better deck. The meta changes.

I never said meta cards should cost less than non meta cards and I never said that only one box should have a price decrease. When you talk about specific card value in the irl tcg, that comes from the secondary market, which duel links does not have (not counting card trader). All I'm saying is that the price of packs should be lowered to keep the value of gems constant

What you mean is: lower the price of packs to increase the value of gems.

Gems and packs already have a constant and consistent value, at 50 gems a pack for any pack. That's as consistent as you can get. The price of packs, as much as it sucks, is fine.

Sure the price of packs is consistent but the value of gems is lowered because each box buys you less of a meta deck than it used to

Still, the meta changes. That's why it's called meta.
