Discussion [discussion] Make packs cost less konomi

When I first started playing the game (when it first came out) I thought 50 gems was way too expensive for a single card pack. In the game's early days that wasn't such a huge problem because gems were funneled to the players pretty heavily through maintenance apologies, the app launching in other countries, x number of downloads, etc. Now we don't get nearly the amount of gems that we used to, but that's only half the problem. The other side to it is now we have 11 different boxes available not counting structure decks, that alone isn't bad, it's great to have a large cardpool so a lot of different decks can be played. What's bad is that to make a good or "meta" deck nowadays it is almost mandatory to have high rarity cards from multiple boxes. This in turn makes gems buy less of a percentage of a good deck than it used to because there isn't necessarily more than one card for the meta deck you want to build in a single box. (I should know, I spend over 1700 gems and maxed out sale iaps on Valkyrie's Rage for my 3 soul exchanges but didn't need anything else out of the box) I think konomi needs to make packs cost less so the value of a gem in today's game is closer to the value of a gem when duel links first came out.

tl;dr gems don't buy you as much of a meta deck as they used to so packs should cost less

But they do depreciate, just not physically like a car does. When UR was the only pack avaible OtC was a staple in many decks for defense. Now it'd be stupid to buy UR for OtC when SRH is available. A MUCH better card for defense usable by any monster not only normal monsters.

An old car isn't as efficient as a newer model in the same way these old cards aren't as good as they once were.

I don't think you understood my post. Yes, cards change in value as the meta changes. But in this game, you buy packs. It's done in a deterministic value to be sure, but you can't justify saying that Ultimate Rising should cost less than 50 gems per pack because OtC is worse, it's not that simple. It's wrong to say that an older pack is deserving of a price reduction on a one card comparison basis.

Regardless, my point was to say that in general, physical card games do have the same depreciation or degradation of value that a car would under comparable use (whatever that looks like). Digital card games do not have a physical degradation, like you said, but they can still lose comparative value.
