Discussion Juno Downloads is no longer Avaliable

Just gone into Juno Downloads to see new releases and it has Shut Down? Damn. Usually BandCamp & Juno are my go to places for purchases. What other places are there other than traxsource & Beatport? I found Juno so user friendly. Gutted. Anyone know why they have shut down?

Juno used to always be my go-to, always found beatport to be too spenny. Ofc try to use bandcamp as much as possible now but yeah, big old loss

Agreed, not good for labels either I expect, one less platform to sell music on.

They replied to me about 30 minutes ago with this:

“Unfortunately, download sales have declined over the last few years, reaching a point where we could no longer operate profitably.

Thank you for your wishes and your kind words, we truly appreciate the love and support over the years. We will surely miss our beloved customers and the shared love for music.”

I don't see a better model than downloads if we want small artists to actually make a living from their music. Especially so for DJ music! A stream pays a fraction of a cent, while a single download (on a fair download site, of course) puts roughly a euro in the artist's pocket.

Thanks for sharing this info. Very sad indeed

You’re welcome bud, yeah it’s very unfortunate.

damn with no warning at all too... i've been with them for over ten years, was always cheaper than beatport and also less taxes too!

traxsource looks a bit dated tho..

what a bummer

edit: bandcamp could use a better shopping section imo if i need to open ten thousand tabs and listen with no preview playlist nor volume slider it's just so much more work...

I was kinda hoping they'd remain around so I can re-download tunes from them, you know, since I've easily spent more than a thousand dollars through them years ago.

You can still access your account and download previously purchased tunes.

Awesome, I couldn't with my phone but I'm sure I can from my desktop. I have purchases dating to 2010 lol

Lol I just checked and my first purchase on Juno was EXACTLY on this day, 16 years ago.

As you'll probably want to check out Volumo since we are the most direct replacement for what Juno Download used to be, I'm here to answer your questions (I'm one of Volumo's co-founders).

I do bandcamp, but a problem it has is that it doesn't have charts, you've really got to know what you want to use bandcamp. You can go down a rabbit hole tho!

Once you get into Bandcamp and follow lots of artists/labels you like on there it's not a problem. My inbox is absolutely full of notifications for Bandcamp releases.

Also, I have no interest in letting Beatport charts and algorithms decide what I'm going to buy.

Agree. I didnt use beatport/juno. Always bandcamp.

And yeah I also get emails every day from the labels I follow!

You've gotta be fucking kidding me. Yesterday I got a junodownload voucher as a birthday gift... 🤦‍♂️

It was already sad to see Google Play Music go, as it was the only store that actually took currency strength into account. Then Digital-Tunes closed... and now Juno.

I hate buying music on Beatport with a passion, and despite I like to support artists via Bandcamp, a lot of stuff is just not there (not to mention their UI being absolutely horrible).

So where do we go from here?

2

u/texXy_cze 6h ago

Damn that sucks, sorry about your voucher Pao!

Google Play Music was the GOAT fr x(

I guess Beatport and Traxsource will have to do. (Little tip - since Beatport is a slow and miserable experience, I prefer to dig new music through https://crates.co/, it uses the same API, but is much faster)

2

u/2NineCZ 4h ago

not sure about traxsource and beatport .)) guess i'll have to make my own music store, with blackjack and hookers! 💪🤣 (funnily enough i actually already built one as one of the features of my app https://soundsta.sh/ but I'm probably the only artist selling music there 😃)

as for crates.co, thanks for the tip. checked it out and it looked kinda promising at first (as i use beatport to check for new music anyway) but i am really missing a release-centric list of new music (as opposed to the track-centric one that is there) there amongst other stuff.

u/josselin55 4h ago

and the beatport prices fuck king hell .....with their exclusive price u need wait 2 month after release date to buy it within the upgrade price but still expensive with taxes and additional cost ifu buy wav lossless ......and gift they dotn do it on wav only on basic price unlike juno where gift was on full price dammit where iwill buy trance music now ): an,d bancamp in trance music the differents labels never out release on bancamp imagine the cost of the servers needed to host all these files

2

u/2NineCZ 4h ago

I only used beatport to check for the new releases I then bought somewhere else in 99% of cases (sometimes I just couldn't resist some exclusive here and there).

But yeah, I've made a comparison some time ago and beatport was prolly the most expensive store if I remember it correctly. Then all the issues and scandals from the SFX era, terrible artist payouts etc...no, I really don't like beatport.

I take is as a grand irony that I liked the UI of their store the most despite how slow it is. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king

2

u/josselin55 4h ago

and beatport they have torubles too i remeber few years ago many artists and labels didnt received payment from them

2

u/2NineCZ 4h ago

yeah that's exactly what i meant by the "issues and scandals from the SFX era"

u/josselin55 2m ago

sorry what does it mean sfx?

Fuck them ! The had some good selections of dnb but when the put the price up and forced to 320 is when my weekly purchases dropped off . I put songs into my juno cart and then found them later went to beatport and bought on their 30% off sales as juno might give a 10 % once every 6 months . Got too greedy and got fucked !!

I used to buy Vinyl only and switched a few years ago to digital, so found all platforms cheaper than Vinyl. But I get where you are coming from.
