Sear spring issue

I think I might have broken the end of my sear spring by installing it wrong. The end feels very rough. It is hard to see but doesn’t look right. Also I was getting hammer follow accompanied by the trigger not resetting. I just installed a red dirt trigger. What can/should I get as a replacement?

Edit/ add: I removed the overtravel screws completely. It has some pre travel but that’s how I like it.

Everything moves freely. Even with everything installed and back together. What I think might’ve happened and is likely, is that I installed the Sear Spring incorrectly and it clipped off part of the left most finger. I noticed that it has a bit of an edge to it. And that when I disassembled my gun after having issues, I found two small pebble, almost like looking things inside the frame by my shoe area. I should have checked if they were magnetic but I wansnt thinking. This along with the tip of the finger having an edge to it I feel as though it’s the sear spring.

The sear spring comes exactly like you show it there. Typically a replacement will have a small bent end on the leg but it is removed on the DWX. Like they snapped it off. Any standard 1911 sear spring will work as a replacement but yours is fine. If you are getting hammer follow you’ll need to make sure it is installed correctly and then make some adjustments until that stops. You’ll also want to make sure you have enough travel in the trigger to allow reset etc.

It worked perfectly fine when dry firing but then during live fire today it did not work.

Yeah that happens. Springs tend to settle in after a minute. I’ve got a pretty good idea what’s going to work but depending on how close you are to the edge the gun can start acting up after a few rounds or a hundred rounds.

Typically after i set the sear spring where I think it’s good I will aggressively rack the slide and dry fire the gun 20-30 times. Most of the time the hammer follow will show up in that time frame if it’s going to happen.

I have probably 2000 rounds on the factory trigger and sear spring.

What do you mean by how close to the edge?

We picked this up in a direct message conversation but if someone else was reading this I mean close to the edge of not working. So hammer not resetting and getting hammer follow. When there isn’t enough pressure or engagement on the sear and hammer notch the hammer won’t reset and it follows the slide forward.

You can have other issues if there isn’t enough room for the trigger bow to allow the disconnector / sear to reset.

Specifically here is was talking about the sear spring

How would you know if there isn’t enough room for the bow to reset things?

I would observe the parts with the grips off and see if they are resetting.

also there is an audible click when you release the trigger.

It has a sharp edge to it?

I am not sure if you saw my update but I did find 2 small little bits of I assume metal inside my frame by the trigger shoe area.

What adjustments need to be made?

I believe it has enough travel. It feels pretty close to the original.

I’m not sure about the bits of metal part but I assure you the sear spring always looked like it does now. The Red Dirt triggers I installed needed almost zero pretravel adjustment so I’m not surprised you didn’t feel you need any.

The adjustment would be to the sear spring itself. For sure all my sear spring had a sharp edge where the tab was busted off. I went and smoothed them out and polished up the tip of the spring just for my own desire to have it smooth

When I used other springs I snapped the tip off the leg as well. I don’t think it is necessary but that was how it came so I stuck with it. I have had the most success with the stock sear spring and didn’t get any added benefit from other springs I tried. (EGW and Wolff)

I agree with ACxReal. That’s how the spring should look. Issues sounds similar to what I had when I was tuning the spring to make the trigger pull lighter. I started have same issues as you when my trigger pull was below 2.25 lbs. I got it back to around 2.7 2.8lbs and it’s ran flawless ever since.
