Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Props to Tarik Skubal
This is going to go over like a lead balloon, but I respect Skubal for the amount of concern he showed after hitting David Fry. He obviously doesn’t want to hurt anyone and his reaction to that pitch is telling of his character. He’s a guy we love to hate (glad we handed him the L tonight), but he’s a player I highly respect.

Discussion Does anyone still call their Guards’ ballpark Jacob’s Field or The Jake?
As an overseas fan I don’t get to hear a lot of local chatter about the team (I rely on this sub a LOT so thank you!). I know it’s Progressive and has been for years but when I talk about the stadium I still call it Jacob’s Field coz that’s what it was when I first started supporting the team when I was a kid. Has Progressive been adopted fully or is there still a nostalgic element to Jacob’s or Jake?

Discussion Travis Bazzana over his last 7 games: .391 BA, .440 obp, and .875 ops
In his last 14 he's hitting .302 with a .412 obp and 5 SB with a .807 ops.
This kid is going to be an on base machine. He goes up there looking like he's going to find a way to get a hit or get on base every time. He went 3-4 yesterday and I cant remember the last time a rookie came up where I expected them to get on base so much.
Between him, Delaughter, Rocchio, Bailey, and Angel it seems like we have the makings of a legit young core all 26 or younger. Add in Genao, Valazquez, Chourio, and Ingle who all look exciting. Then you have some guys who could boom like Kahlil Watson, Jake Fox, Alfonsin Rosario, Nick Mitchell, CJ Kayfus, and other guys who are older that may catch on later like Huff, Valera, Brito, among others.
We might actually have a good offense over the next couple of seasons guys!

Discussion AL Central check-in: 1/3rd of the way through the season
After a third of the season, we look up and wonder where KC and DET are. Who are you taking seriously as central contenders for the rest of the year, and does this early lead set us up well to make a big move at the deadline? My thoughts: Detroit getting Skubal back will be a jolt of life, and they can’t continue to be THIS bad. The White Sox will have to fight hard to keep their heads above water, and I’m not sure what to think of them.

Discussion [Buster Olney] Every day, the best of the best will be behind home plate for Cleveland. For a franchise that relies on pitching so heavily, it makes sense.
Full post as it was too long for the title.
Last year, Patrick Bailey finished first among all catchers in run value for pitching framing, and Austin Hedges was fourth. This is like having Pete Crow-Armstrong and Cedanne Rafaela platooning in center field. Every day, the best of the best will be behind home plate for Cleveland. For a franchise that relies on pitching so heavily, it makes sense.

Discussion Strong Words from Hammy
I’ve been watching the games w regular audio lately, so I don’t know if Hammy has been making comments throughout. However, I was surprised to hear such strong words about those who apparently should not be named today.
He said the guys in the clubhouse don’t even want to hear the names Ortiz and Clase. It’s about the team, not one player. And referred to it as betrayal.
All fair and valid, I was just surprised to hear it on air.
LFG!

Discussion Kwan is now below the Mendoza line
Realistically, what needs to happen with this guy? He’s clearly completely broken. Despite that, we’re 8 games over .500 with a 3.5 game lead in the division. We have a little bit of a luxury to hope he figures it out, but if he doesn’t, we definitely can not go into the stretch run/playoffs with a total zero outfielder on the offensive side.

Discussion Two days later and I’m still not sure how this happened.
$1.5 million minor league deal for a guy who had an .800+ OPS into June last season. .902 on May 21st.
Even with his decline and injury, I still don’t understand why he didn’t receive better offers than this. This is one of the better value signings I can remember in awhile.
P.S. He had 4 hits, including a bomb and walk, in his last game at Progressive Field😎

Discussion Umpire Dan Iassogna was the worst umpire and missed 18 calls in the Guardians Royals game. Trust me. Everyone in Cleveland saw it 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️
Umpire Dan Iassogna was the worst umpire and missed 18 calls in the Guardians Royals game.
Of those 18 calls, 13 went against the Guardians.
The Guardians challenged 3 pitches and all of them were overturned.

Discussion Chris Gimenez is insufferable
Yes, I know I need to put on the hammy feed and I usually do but sometimes I’m just lazy and don’t want to match up the sound to the video. I listened to the entire game today with the TV broadcast and I’ve never heard a former player who was NOT GOOD talk about themself so much. Everything circles back to catchers or his playing days or he will try to play devils advocate to some random situation.
I think Matt was even getting irritated with him today trying to make some extravagant point when there was no room for it in the conversation. What they are doing with the broadcasting situation is incredibly frustrating. I think Matt is pretty average but I like Manning. Andre can be incredibly annoying but he works okay with those two. I think the sum of them is greater than their parts.
If our future broadcasts include Gimenez, Al and Rosie being the main pieces, we are going to really miss the days with Hammy, Matt and Rick

Discussion OPERATION SAVE THE DRUNCLES, TELL MLB TO STOP MESSING WITH OUR BROADCAST!
Nothing against Chris Gimenez, Cayleigh Griffin or especially Al Pawlowski, I am sure they are trying their best and one day they might have a bright future in the booth.
But Matt, Rick and Andre have spent decades developing chemistry and it feels like an absolute waste to get rid of the group when they are at the peak of their powers.
So lets write/call MLB that we are mad about them meddling with our TV booth!
This is the link to write them an email/complaint: https://support.mlb.com/s/contact-us?language=en_US
If you wanna contact them through text you can do it to 866-244-2291 Monday through Sunday from 2pm to 10pm
If you wanna call them, you can do so at the same number but you can do so from noon till midnight.
Is this a bit unorthodox? Absolutely, but we gotta make ourselves heard, otherwise this change is hear to stay, and I consume way too much baseball to do nothing about this, and, with you being here, something tells me you might as well.

Discussion Chase DeLauter makes the Guardians a different team.
Chase DeLauter makes the Guardians a different team. Much better. We have the potential to have 3 30 home run hitters. Opposing pitchers do not get the break in the 2 hole they got last year between Kwan and Josey. The pressure comes off of Kwan, Josey, and Manzo to perform literally every night. Im really excited to see Bazzana and Valera contribute. Let's not forget Hunter Gaddis is in his way back too. Much deeper than last year in my opinion.

Discussion Did anyone feel disrespect from the Dodgers announcers last night?
Like many of you, I had to be asleep by first pitch in order to make it to work today. I was forced to watch the condensed game where they combine both feeds so you hear some of the opponents commentary. The Dodgers announcers said something along the lines of how they will see better competition in their series with Toronto after Roki was pulled out early. Is it me, or did this seem like they didn't respect the Guards although we were winning at the time?

Discussion Questions from an MLB Noob/a Mom Trying Her Best
Hi! My son is turning 9 in just a few weeks, and he's been wild about baseball over the past few years ever since he joined little league. Last fall, his dad and I teamed up to take him to his (and our) first MLB (specifically, Guardians) game. We all had an absolute blast, even from the nosebleed section. We were just happy to be there, and couldn't believe what an incredible atmosphere it was.
Seeing the excitement and love for life written all over my son's face made me realize what a special tradition this could be - taking him to Guardians home games maybe a few times per season.
We do our due diligence in supporting his interest by watching The Sandlot and Rookie of the Year on a loop, lol.
My question, from a total noobie/uninformed citizen in the MLB games space - is there a specific time of the season for better pricing/lower crowd turnouts/kid stuff? With kids and parking downtown, I get a little overwhelmed when there are massive crowds and all of that, and was curious if there were any parent hacks anyone could share. Hopefully that makes sense.
Thanks :)
Edit: THANK YOU to the kind Redditor who generously gave us tickets for an upcoming game! A true day maker!

At what point does the FO have to give guys like Bazanna, Delauter, Gavin Williams, and Cade Smith extensions to have a core for the foreseeable future. I think we need to lock down these guys for the future before they get too expensive

Discussion This team disgusts me right now it’s so sad.
Rant points incoming:
I am a huge Arias hater, we have known who he is for YEARS. How he is a professional is astounding.
Nolan jones was DFA bait and had 4 nice days and it’s back to the same shit time to move on.
Let’s just call the damn kids up, we aren’t going to spend we are going to sell at the deadline let’s just see what we have.
After no one was ejected or fighting over Jose getting intentionally drilled- any hope I had left for this team died.
Selllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll theeeeeeeeee TEAAAAAAAM
Fuck man
