I don't "believe in Stephen Vogt" rn
Some pretty horrendous managing if we're about to be in June and we're:
Still allowing both challenges to be burned if it's not high leverage
Bringing in 2026 Tim Herrin with RISP
Dying by the platoon
Not willing to put yourself out there to argue for your guys

I think Fairchild being here is completely intentional
Get a look at what he can do (likely nothing) than try to pass him through waivers and free up another 40 man spot
Makes sense they didn't want to burn options on other prospects imo

I think Ive seen enough... of Stuart Fairchild.
12
u/klein_four_group 36 19h ago
I need under-talented teams to stop it with handedness platoons. Fairchild only got the start because he's right handed. Herrin was only brought into that situation because he's lefthanded. There's an entire Tigers team that can't buy a win because their manager cares only about handedness. Just. put. in. the. best. player. Period.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but with us facing the Yankees and the White Sox facing the Twins, there's a good chance they overtake first next week.

At this point, the challenges are on Vogt. He's said multiple times he lets guys have a lot of autonomy with it, and it's bitten us in the butt numerous times, and the stats show we're one of the worst. It's basic game theory and something every player should be taught. Baseball is a game that rewards statistically sound decision-making in the long run, and he's employing a pure instinct-based approach that clearly isn't working.

This team has made me so frustrated with ABS calls this year, like the ump will miss a call, then another, and then the one time the ump makes a correct borderline call, we challenge and lose one. I think that we should just not use our challenges on offense at all, unless it is the ninth or so egregious that every single person on the planet except the home plate umpire knows its a strike/ball. I have seen time and time again this team blow its challenges in situations that just don’t matter, and it bites them in the ass. They make for the most frustrating losses.
P.S. - I never thought I would see a player to make me as mad as Juan Brito did this season, so that’s something

I'm more upset with the Manzardo at bat than Fairchild. Fairchild is what it is, a defensive warm body to fill in for a few days. Manzardo is supposed to be part of the core and he absolutely kills us with RISP. 34% K rate and 17 RBIs just doesn't cut it for a middle of the order hitter.

Lots of lashing at Fairchild who's essentially a platoon righty/runner bench dude. This offense has bigger issues than that.
Rhys Hoskins is on track to overtake Manzardo for slugging and hitting. Yeah, not good. Was a big pusher of Kyle getting on the team but his development has stalled into "the pinch hitter only" guy.

Fairchild sucks and Jose doesnt. But Fairchild's challenge wasn't the issue today, challenging a strike 2 with the bases empty and 1 out is the decision that makes no sense, not challenging a strike 3 with the bases loaded, 2 outs and a full count.

I'm realizing that I've been watching baseball for 40+ years and don't completely understand the fair/foul rule. So the ball just has to be fair when it passes 1st or 3rd base? I swear I've seen balls hit to the outfield that are clearly fair when they pass the base but then bend just foul in the outfield. Is there some nuance I'm missing?

The Fairchild challenge was fine, in that situation it's worth it. The Jose challenge was pointless and honestly just an expression of his frustration with himself.
