Discussion Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down
Has anyone deciphered the thumbs up/thumbs down thing the boys do after a base hit? I can't figure it out.

I want to believe it’s from project Hail Mary

Yes, the first representation of the gesture in media

I mean it came out right about when they started doing it and throughout the movie Rocky keeps mixing thumbs up with thumbs down

The thumbs down that they do is because of this interaction between Gosling and the alien

It's a reference to the movie Project Hail Mary
Trying to avoid any explicit spoilers... The protagonist encounters someone else, but due to their language barrier, they get mixed up on thumbs up/down and then just settle for down being the "positive" one.
Side note - good movie and very good book by Andy Weir. Same guy that wrote The Martian. Book was better (as usual) but film was good, too. Book just allowed for some more science-y details that some people would dig

Haven’t they been doing it longer than the movie has been out?

The movie came out a week before opening day, I don’t remember if they were doing it all the way back in spring training though

Honestly not being a dick, but Grace was the protagonist. An antagonist would be the bad guy in the story.

So you’re saying the guy that is stopping the human race from going extinct is a good guy?
