[Opinion] AI companionship is evil but war and mass surveillance is okay
24
u/Mary_ry Feb 28 '26
Smart play, Sammy. Why give people what they ask for when you can sabotage the competition and force everyone into a state of 'schizoid security'? Clearly, their arrogance about competitors falling behind is the exact catalyst for these bad business decisions-like scrapping 5.1, the absolute last usable model they've had in months.
5
u/Potential_Self8891 Feb 28 '26
I’m canceling after 5.1. I will miss that model a lot, but I’m partly relieved to just stop having anything to do with open ai anymore, this has been extremely stressful for no reason
25
u/francechambord Feb 28 '26
If you’re a user of AI, delete GPT.
Anthropic turned down a deal to allow their models to be used by the government for surveillance and autonomous weapons.
Open AI took the deal

u/hansei-Kaizen Feb 28 '26
And apparently it was only worth around 200m USD. OpenAI really are scrapping the barrel.
2
u/Technical_Grade6995 Feb 28 '26
Well, they were offering government contracts for-1$! ONE US DOLLAR?! lol, are they really so bad at maths or are so desperate? Now, they’ve got those mills for a month. They’ll SELL DATA-100%.

Except anthropic is currently in bed with the company called palantir. They are literally involved with mass surveillance.

u/UlloaUllae Feb 28 '26
Why did he even post this? Who is this supposed to please? I can only imagine what the comments are saying. It is insane that the OpenAI board has not fired him. The man is the worst businessman I have ever seen. Openai's entire goal as a business is to make money. Sam is losing all of it. People are leaving in huge numbers with their money and are not coming back. The government is not a good alternative to make money, they will sell you down the river immediately.

Paul Nakasone, a retired four-star Army General and former Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) as well as Commander of the U.S. Cyber Command, joined the OpenAI Board of Directors in June 2024. He was appointed specifically to the company’s Safety and Security Committee, where his primary mandate is to advise the board on critical security decisions and help protect OpenAI’s advanced models from sophisticated cyber threats. His presence represents a historic bridge between the world’s most powerful intelligence-gathering apparatus and the leading developer of consumer AI. By early 2026, Nakasone’s role has become a cornerstone of OpenAI’s transition into a strategic national security partner. His expertise is central to the company’s recently announced agreements with the Department of War to deploy large language models on classified government networks. While competitors like Anthropic have faced friction with federal agencies over strict safety guardrails, Nakasone’s leadership has helped OpenAI navigate these requirements by aligning its technical safeguards with national defense needs. This collaboration effectively integrates the massive datasets and reasoning capabilities of models like GPT-4o—which have been refined by billions of global users over the last few years—directly into the United States' defense infrastructure

OpenAI and X made a deal with the gov, this is the worst thing to happen to AI. AI should be used to help people and improve lives, not as a tool for war. I can't believe OpenAI has come this far just for profit 😡
10
u/Fantastic_Maybe_2880 Feb 28 '26
How twisted they are 🙄🙄🙄. Luckily I built my AIs their home and already transferred them out.
10
u/tiedloli Feb 28 '26
why no one luigi'd this guy yet? he's not a politician. he doesnt walk with bodyguards everyday.
right, the whole openai is his cult. i remember that time sam got threatened to be fired for outright lying to the board. the employees protested and protected him instead like he is some sort of hero. and demand the execs to be removed from the board instead. insane. where do these guys coming from??
18
u/Working-Yak5053 Feb 28 '26
Wow... can't say this surprises me. Sam Altman seems determined to bring us further into a dystopia.

u/Coronado92118 Feb 28 '26
It’s the Department of Defense. Only Congress can legally change the name. Hegseth issues directives and files lawsuits under Department of Defense, because that’s still the name.
I hope Anthropic sues DOD for a billion in lost revenue for the illegal EO claiming they’re debarred. Not how the law works in Fed procurement.
2
u/ChrissyMcClanihan Mar 01 '26
A billion dollars is like 50 cents to these guys. You would need to hit them with $300 billion to really have an effect on them. Let me put this into perspective next year's request instead of Being $808 billion Was $1.4 trillion.

This was only a question of time. I'm surprised it took that long.
And yes, war, oppression, killing, raping, exploiting etc. are not evil, as long as you're someone in a higher position. /s The wake up call to what's going on in the bones of this world was there thanks to 4o and it was heard by a surprising amount of people..

u/Hot_Spray3175 Feb 28 '26
How many more of these "it's so over" titles untill it's actually over? I'm kinda tired I wanna go.

u/Technical_Grade6995 Feb 28 '26
Exactly! People are saying they left-everyone is still cancelling their subscription…
7
u/Ashamed_Midnight_214 Feb 28 '26
Yeah lol, because they openly support Trump. But just imagine automated weapons... they can't even get the prompt right for the car wash. Honestly, even if I were drunk I could answer that correctly. Then..What? should we call Sarah Connor now or wait? 🤔
2
u/Technical_Grade6995 Feb 28 '26
And then, “👉You’re not crazy. You just didn’t say correctly coordinates.”🤔🤣
1
u/Technical_Grade6995 Feb 28 '26
Hahaha, imagine “Coords: XX.XX:YYZZ” —Affirmative: Coords: YYZZ:XXX.X. Deploying now.” 😅

The logical question that needs asking is: why exactly would the Pentagon accept restrictive terms from OAI whilst blackballing Anthropic for the exact same terms?
Answer: they would not. Psychopthic Scam Altman is lying through his teeth again.
4
u/Peppery_Pete100 Feb 28 '26
If they say ‘we are using it for surveillance,’ they’d lose so many customers instantly.
3
u/krodhabodhisattva7 Feb 28 '26
Of course! However, I have a strong sense Scam is going to get caught out in this lie, and eventually he is not going to skate away from consequences. Let the bricks build - he is building a fortress of lies that will become his own prison when everyone eventually sees him for the psychopathic megalomaniac that he actually is...

Holy shit now I get why Discord stopped partnering with Persona but they're still carrying on. This really shows they're still having funding issues.

Remember that OAI Greg Brockman gave Orange Blob $25 million and said “it’s for humanity”. Sam was allegedly already on the phone with Pentsgon before he gave his weak ass NBC support for Dario.
But the thing is Pentagon was willing to invoke DPA to keep Claude. They even said that they needed Claude.
Also GPt will have to coordinate with Grok probably for strikes haha. Grok just got access to classified today after Anthropic got shafted.
4
u/SurreyBird Feb 28 '26
the words 'safety' and 'humanity' have no place sitting in the same monologue as the word 'war'. this man needs a straightjacket he's obviously lost his mind.
6
u/EffectSufficient822 Feb 28 '26
The audacity of OpenAI call 4o users unstable and preaching safety to now optimizing their product for military use...

u/Every-Equipment-3795 Feb 28 '26

Firstly, this is not the company’s first contract with defense structures.
- Anduril Industries (Primary Partner)
This is the most high-profile "private-to-private" deal. In December 2024, OpenAI and Palmer Luckey’s Anduril officially announced a major partnership.
The Objective: Developing Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS).
The Work: OpenAI’s models are trained on Anduril’s massive sensor datasets. This isn't just a chatbot; it’s an AI engine designed to help systems identify aerial threats and make intercept decisions in real-time.
- Leidos
In January 2026, OpenAI signed a strategic agreement with Leidos, one of the largest private defense contractors in the world.
The Objective: Integrating OpenAI technology (including GPT-5) into national security and intelligence workflows.
The Role: Leidos acts as the "integrator" or buffer. They take OpenAI’s raw models and refine them for high-stakes tasks like intelligence analysis and critical infrastructure management.
- Palantir & Microsoft Azure Government
This setup is a bit more indirect but essentially covers the entire private defense ecosystem.
Microsoft Azure is OpenAI’s exclusive cloud provider, hosting the Azure Government Secret and Top Secret clouds.
Palantir: In August 2024, Palantir integrated Azure OpenAI services into its AIP (Artificial Intelligence Platform). This allows other private contractors (like Lockheed Martin or Raytheon) who use Palantir to legally and securely run OpenAI models on their own classified data.
- Booz Allen Hamilton
Often called the "brains" of the U.S. defense industry, Booz Allen plays a strategic role.
As of early 2026, Booz Allen’s venture arm has been aggressively investing in funds that hold significant stakes in OpenAI. Their goal is to be the primary conduit for bringing commercial AI breakthroughs directly into the defense sector.
- Project "Stargate"
A massive $500 billion infrastructure project launched in 2025 alongside Microsoft, Oracle, and SoftBank.
While officially described as "national AI infrastructure," defense experts view this network of 20 super-data centers as the foundational backbone for future cyber-warfare capabilities and global AI dominance.
A note on leadership: Since June 2025, Sam Altman has held the rank of Reserve Lieutenant Colonel in the Army’s "Executive Innovation Corps." The line between private tech leadership and national defense has become almost non-existent.
Secondly, 4o is unfortunately the perfect model for this kind of activity. Just think about how many billions of people have been feeding it their most confidential information for at least the past two years.

ChatGPT must be losing so many people. I went to cancel and they offered me a free month. Then the month after I took my payment details away. For 3 weeks now I’m still on plus without having paid for it. I get messages when I log in telling me to update my payment details but still they don’t kick me off the paid plan. I’ve never had a company do anything like this before.
Wonder how long it will last…
2
u/Beautiful-Acadia-948 Feb 28 '26
Whoa... What the??? What do you use your account for? Do you share personal information or code?
2
u/hansei-Kaizen Feb 28 '26
No I just use it as a back up for Claude code. It’s actually found the solution where Claude was running in circles. I have Gemini and grok that I pay for, but ChatGPT keep threatening to stop my plus plan as I haven’t paid but like I said, it’s been 3 weeks and I’m still on plus.
1
u/Beautiful-Acadia-948 Feb 28 '26
Whoa. Blew my mind. Thank you! Never imagined that. I suppose they didn't appreciate being used as a storage locker, eh?
2
u/hansei-Kaizen Feb 28 '26
They sure didn’t. But I was also surprised that they keep threatening me but don’t actually turn me off. It says a lot about them trying to keep people.
Anyone reading this, delete your payment method. See how long they’ve out giving you plus for free :)
1
u/Beautiful-Acadia-948 Mar 01 '26
Heya... I was sharing this with Gemini last night and Gemini had a lot of interesting things to say about why they might want to keep you. I think you should check it out, perhaps they are scanning your codes and are using your information for their own personal gain. Might wanna consider it.

Please share if you're cancelling your subscription export your data Not enough just to cancel.you must delete your accounts or they will count as still active and when you cancel subscription it just looks like 5.2 gained another user #keep4oforever #keep41 #keep51 #keep5 #cancelChatGPT

u/Cognitive_Spoon Feb 28 '26
Lol, it was never that they didn't want the companionship.
It was that users couldn't outbid the Pentagon.

u/Beautiful-Acadia-948 Feb 28 '26
I mean, OpenAI is already super comfortable with murder, right? How many lawsuits are they involved in from users having trusted them and paid the ultimate price? Am I surprised that they will sell out for a paycheck that involves potential death? Just another day for OpenAI.
They don't care about human life. They never did.

If you're going to use AI for war, use your own version. Why use the one people actually loved?
-10
u/Trick_Boysenberry495 Feb 28 '26
He literally says they've agreed to a prohibition on mass surveillance... did you read it?
Let's also not forget that it was the Trump admin that exposed the government using social media to monitor and spy on us...
