Question Opinions on the BO7 Multi?

Has anyone else really struggled to get into the multi for this game?

I have about 3 days' worth of hours on multi (by the in-game stats). I did the camo, but I can't bring myself to play any more of it.

I ask this question because I have done the camo for every game released since, and including MW19, and Vanguard was my lowest-hour game out of the rest at about 10 days, I think it was. I find myself getting that cod 'itch' to just play a mindless shooter, but I struggle to get into BO7 at all. I can't tell if I don't like it cause I am just not as good at it, or if I am not as good at it because I don't play it as much (maybe both).

I booted up MWIII for the first time in a year and a half and instantly went 50 - 10 in a match. It felt night and day. I thought I was washed up but maybe just not cut out for BO7. My K/D in that game is higher than my E/D in BO7! Skill diff? Probably. I somewhat enjoyed BO6 and performed relatively well at that.

I'm just waffling now, but just overall interested in how well people rate BO7 in this 'new era' of cod games, or if they find themselves slowly reminiscing about previous titles that were by all means mid at best?!

You got used to SBMM. Lost your ability to compete against those better than you. Try the standard moshpit. Bo7 is easily the best cod since bo3.

High praise! I now I’ve done the camo I will try and force myself into it more. Although I’m unconvinced it’s SBMM from previous titles that’s held me back - I’m just worse with the current systems than I was with previous games. I performed WAY better at MWIII than I did BO6, despite the latter having SBMM. I think, the more movement systems evolve, the worse I have become. And because advanced movement interests me less, I’ve been disinclined to force myself to adapt. It feels too “sweaty” for me when I come home from work and play for a few hours, if that makes sense

The movement also does increase the skill gap in a lot of ways. So you doing worse is probably a combination of you just falling behind the curve on movement, as well as weaker SBMM meaning you aren't getting as much help.

My KD on MW2023 was higher than my BO6 or BO7 KD, but I spent a ton of time playing with my son, often just session joining him.

My E/D is a 1.36 in BO7 and it was a 1.43 in BO6, but in BO6 I partied up with people who were usually at least a tier or two worse than me, and that definitely gave me easier lobbies than if I'd only rolled solo. Whereas I often go solo in BO7, and even when I do, the weaker SBMM means that even if I have a worse player in my party, the lobby skill isn't going to be much different than by myself.

MWIII and BO6 both have pretty much the same SBMM. In all recent CoDs cases though they are constantly watching analytics and making adjustments.

Yeah I think this is the comparison that I tried to draw. I was just better at MWIII, with a 2 k/d on almost exclusively hardpoint, while playing the objective, and having (I think) about a 1.7 win loss ratio. Which is perhaps the best I’ve ever performed on a cod game lmao, compare that to a 1.7 e/d in black ops 6 and now 7.

Without 6 in the middle I’d probably find it easier to agree it’s SBMM throwing me off, but the consistency with BO6 tells me it’s movement/lack of playtime.

Long story short, don’t like the movement I guess. I always used to be a Treyarch fanboy, but these days I’m leaning more toward infinity ward and sledgehammer, even though I loved cold war

Don’t play at bad times. If it’s midday or like 2am Wednesday, it’s full of unemployed sweats and it’s just not enjoyable sometimes. This double XP weekend especially has been an absolute blast because there’s so many moderate players like me and I’ve had some solid rounds of competition the past few days.

I WFH most weekdays, so usually am on at scattered times and sometimes almost every server is just annoying if you’re playing when most people are sleeping or at work. Hop on in the evening on a weekday and most servers are enjoyable because it’s filled with a lot more casuals who just wanna relax after work. Same with almost all day on the weekends.

Yeah that rationale makes sense!

I find it has a lot of neat features. My biggest issue is looking like connection, but it comes with confusion I can’t clear. I see ping under 30, no packet loss, I have gigabit speed up and down, and will get multiple centre mass hit markers in n hardcore, only to die. End of match cams often show opponent seeing me and my rounds not starting until after he starts. Friends have confirmed. Wish I could blame cheaters but it looks like this might be what desync is? It’s my biggest and most inconsistent frustration.

I’ve noticed this, and oddly enough I’ve mostly noticed it in zombies since that’s also permanent internet connection! Absolutely no issue with my connection sometimes at all and it’ll be laggy as all hell

Yes that’s the new Microsoft servers. They’re crap.

I just find all the maps except some of the remakes incredibly boring. The game just feel devoid of any soul

Yeah the maps are dull as dishwater. I know that multi maps often mirror campaigns to make it easier/quicker to develop, but I also think that process does a lot for grounding the narrative of a game across its modes. It’s cool to be fighting in MP in locations that the story took you. Since BO7 has basically the worst campaign in singleplayer gaming history, it makes the MP feel soulless

I'm worried for mw4 because they said they're adopting the map design philosophy for the game and the new maps already look really soulless. Hopefully we can get a trench map and just have environmental story telling back in the maps.

Yeah I agree with the environmental storytelling. It’s what made some of the older maps so memorable, Array and Summit from BO1 for example (at least in my head). I understand they want to make optimised maps for gameplay, but that’s not necessarily mutually exclusive with said storytelling. Hopefully with the campaign we’ll see some good set pieces

It’s a mid multiplayer for me. Between the wall bouncing and Omni-movement, it’s too sweaty for me.

My opinion mostly comes down to the fact that my reflexes are not what they used to be. MW3 was the last MP that I enjoyed because of how it was just simple boots on ground

1

u/Mjames226 16h ago

I agree. I played the hell out of MWIII, and while I played a lot of BO7, I always found myself preferring MWIII even at the time. Getting killed by someone sliding sideways on their knees on a gravel surface at 30mph gets boring quickly.

I think I am also just too stubborn to learn. Less learning required to pick up MWIII, so I performed better and played it more. BO7's setting bores me to death

You’re definitely just too stubborn to learn but again: this is life don’t force yourself to enjoy a video game.

However if you DO want to continue playing then you will need to get better FAST because more people are picking up the controller every day so the game will NEVER slow down

2

u/Mjames226 16h ago

Yeah too stubborn to learn for sure hahaha, although I always feel the itch to play cod between the other games I play so perhaps I should just bite the bullet

The reasons you hate it are the reasons I love it

Pretty fun

u/RedditJw2019 16h ago

I love it. Took me a long time to get into. But forced myself to use the sliding and wall jump, and now it’s a lot of fun

2

u/Mjames226 16h ago

Yeah I think that’s my issue - I need to force myself to adapt to the movement, it’s the main sticking point I fear

1

u/RedditJw2019 14h ago

Yea. You gotta accept that you’ll lose a lot of gunfights while you’re getting used to it. But it’s worth it.

it's poopy garbage

It’s pretty wank to be honest, I thought the whole point of open matchmaking was to be paired with and against anyone with different skill sets, yet it seems like I’m always paired with shit players to complete with the sweaty tryhards that don’t shower

2

u/Mjames226 2h ago

Feel that about the sweaty tryhards. Coming home after work to play for an hour or two and I’m up against jobless level 700’s with TTV in their tag hahaha

It’s that combined with the fact that the movement is too fast, thankfully Mw4 will return to a more manageable pace since it’s like Mw2019 and Mw3.. oh and the other fact that the weapons in this game feel really awful with how they’re balanced

I’m absolutely in love with the MP on BO7 it’s the most fun I’ve had in 30 years and I’ve played every single COD

u/Mjames226 16h ago

High praise like the other guy, it’s actually surprised me!! Glad it’s got its fans, maybe I will be soon 😂
