Feedback Wanted Thoughts on a cover (military science fiction)

Post image

I want to make it abundantly clear: this is not the final cover! This is a rough sketch/prototype of the cover! I was curious how people felt about the idea behind it. Please pardon the horrible quality, as I do not typically use digital art, and do not have much experience with art as a whole. (-‿-")

This idea was *partially* inspired by the box art of Ace Combat 2 for the original Playstation, if anyone was curious.

I mean if you tell us what it is about, it may even work. In itself, it's difficult to tell what it is about, even the title is very ambiguous. The text on the left is almost unreadable :)

I was worried about the text on the side, yes. If you couldn't read it, it says "far future spaceflight warfare" :) It's a science fiction book about people fighting for independence from a corrupt galactic-scale empire.

Yeah I mean if you focus a lot you can understand, but it requires time

the left side text is unreadable - if it's not part of the title or subtitle it probably doesn't need to be there - lots of people make movie poster style covers with a bunch of unnecessary extra text now, but i never see them on anything professionally published. So, do what you will. The balance is weird with the... ship?,,, whatever that is, pushed against the spine side. Colors are okay but not complimentary. I would never think this was military SF if I picked it up off the shelf at Barnes and Noble. This looks like it was done in MS Paint.

That's because it was made in MS Paint, lol (-‿-")

Again, this is just a rough prototype, and i will be working to refine it more over time. I made the text like that because I thought it looked cool, but in hindsight it was not the best idea

Rule of thumb, you shouldn't share rough drafts for feedback. For example, what do you think people are going to tell you besides "it's bad."

It's the same reason why authors don't share rough drafts. It's not ready to be critiqued.

Get some actual artwork either created by an artist or purchased from a stock site and then repost for feedback. You are not going to get anything of value with these rough sketches.
