I think they might be making a starter lazer cutter/engraver.

No because the A2 wouldn't be enclosed and you need an enclosure for a laser, they also don't actually use L for any of the laser version models

I do suspect from the video that its going to use the cutter though which means the bed has to be large enough to hold the existing cutting beds

My cheap Ortur Laser Master diode laser doesn’t have an enclosure, I built one for it 5 years ago.

Ok and your example of using a laser in an unsafe way matters how?

Bambu isn't going to ship a laser on an unenclosed machine as they wouldn't be able to list it as a class 1 laser product and would have to list it as a class 4 as it wouldn't be considered safe for general consumer use

You said that “you need an enclosure for a laser” What I’m saying is that without me knowing the classes of lasers and current regulations, it appears to me that it’s possible to sell lasers without enclosures. Obviously it depends on the company selling the product, and using an enclosure is 100% the best way to use them unless it’s in a dedicated workshop.

it appears to me that it’s possible to sell lasers without enclosures.

Sure, you can sell the modules on their own as you're not responsible for them, but if you're selling a laser platform there are regulations around things that have to be included like the safety glass and safety interlocks to prevent access to the laser while its in use

So in the consumer space they would have to include an enclosure sadly

I also have an ortur laser, and it’s sold as a whole complete machine, not just a laser head, and they do not come with an enclosure. I also had to make my own. It DID come with glasses and a safety key tho.

And it was likely sold as a class 4 laser product

In order to meet class 1 requirements the laser needs to be entirely contained during operation, at least as far as the UK is concerned, although i believe the EU requires the same for anything certified as class 1, imports can usually skirt around this as they were manufactured and sold from elsewhere but as bambu wants to sell it within the EU and the UK they would need to meet those safety requirements
