Feeling overwhelmed by choice - need a baby carrier for travel to hot destinations

Hey all, traveling to Italy in a week. Our son is 4 months old and around 8kg. We're taking a travel stroller but I (dad) imagine that I'll be carrying him most of the time. We currently have an old baby Bjorn carrier we were given, but it has a really narrow seat and is not ideal for his hips. The pro is that it's mesh and quite cool, and is also super easy to put on and off.

We also have an old lillebaby carrier which has better hip ergonomics but is dated, not breathable, and awkward to put on and off.

Ideally I'm looking for something I can wear with a backpack/fanny pack, but most importantly I'd like a carrier which has great ventilation (I run pretty hot to begin with, and it's going to be very hot during our trip). We also don't live in North America so don't have access to most of the brands I see mentioned here, although we do have the staples like Ergobaby, baby Bjorn, etc. From what I'm reading, baby Bjorn is not popular here.

My current choice was going to be the ergobaby omni 360 cool air mesh (what a mouthful) but wanted to ask the experts here. Thanks!

Fit Check Any tips to keep the neck from creeping when doing housework? I tried pulling straight back then clipping the straps. It’s a sprout. On the bright side, homeboy seems to love it.

Hello!

Been practising half jordans back carry for a bit and I think i'm starting to get it? I was struggling to get her high enough but this feels ok?

The only thing is it sometimes feels a bit lopsided because there's no pass under her right leg?

I'd love to get this one down because I like not having anything around my waist.

Baby is 6 months this week :)

Thank you!

Fit Check Hope and plum - head and neck support

Fit check question on the hope and plum lark carrier - my LO’s head seems to like arch or fall backwards in the carrier and I’m not sure if it’s a me thing or a carrier thing. I adjusted him a bit and made him tighter to chest and that seems to have kinda helped. But does his neck look okay? Sometimes he arches it back and like wants to sleep with his head back versus turned to the side.

LO is 11w4d. we have been using a stretchy wrap since he was about 2 weeks but he falls about 3” from his original placement every time I wear it, so maybe it’s time for structured and/or woven?

Favorite video tutorials for newborn ring sling carry

Hi all, I'm going to be seeing my sister-in-law with a new baby soon and I promised to help her learn how to use her ring sling. I'm pretty comfortable getting a newborn into a safe fit with a ring sling on my own body, but the last time I tried to help someone else it felt all topsy-turvy trying to explain how to do it on their body and help them get a good fit! Obviously I have watched some tutorials myself, but I don't feel like I have found a single video that is like here is the perfect tutorial for getting a newborn into a ring sling. Anyone want to propose a new favorite video tutorial that I can try showing her?

Discuss Carrier recommendations for 6 month old

Hi everyone! I need some help, in October I will be going to Italy with my a baby that will be 6 months old and need a good carrier.
I’ve done some research but would like personal experience recommendations. I’m considering the H&P lark or Ergo Omni deluxe but open to whatever you like!

A little info, we will be doing some tours so she may be in it for a while

First Back Carry Outside

Just wanted to share a milestone for me. Thanks to all the information and encouragement on this sub I was able to back carry my three month old in the grocery store today!

I’ve done the ruck carry with my woven wrap at home many times but I’ve been too nervous to try it in public. Today I gave it a try and it worked great. Much easier than front carry while grocery shopping with my toddler in the cart. I hope this encourages someone else who is nervous about carrying. With enough practice you can do it!

Fit Check Fit check Ergobaby 360 mesh 3.5m

My baby has hated all wraps and carriers (we had the Embrace) since birth, which has been tough as I would have loved to babywear more. Recently she will tolerate short sessions in this thrifted Ergobaby carrier but often not long enough for me to feel like I can adjust everything/troubleshoot well. What should I focus on improving for safety and comfort?

I feel like she is too low? Tried pelvic tuck but not sure if done well. Also the neck portion should also be flipped down but I feel like the panel is too short otherwise?

She is 16 weeks (almost 4 months) and weighs around 6.7 kg. At 3-month check up she was 61cm. She has decent head control and likes to look around!

Thank you so much in advance!

Fit Check fit check: ring sling (first time)

first time trying a ring sling. baby (11 weeks) has been fighting the wrap carrier lately. wore for 10-15 min as a test. he seemed more comfortable but I know my form isn’t proper yet. it also seemed to take pressure off my pelvic floor which the wrap carrier aggravated.

any tips for getting the ring up higher? it would touch his cheek when he turned his head and he was even trying to suckle on it.

I also feel like his legs could be more symmetrical or maybe it’s his body? any and all thoughts are welcome!

First time mum and 2week old bub. Vixsa ring sling. I know he should be in a footless onesie, only in this for the fit check pics. I think I haven't sorted the fabric properly? Is he sitting okay?

I'm able to kiss baby's head when i lean down, but does she need to be higher up? she seemed ok, didn't cry but was craning her head to look up a lot.

would appreciate any tips to improve the fit, especially if there's any safety concern I'm missing out.

baby's 7lbs and 1oz, so just above the weight requirement, so I'm not sure if she's still a bit small for the carrier.

Tula has the worst customer service, other suggestions?

Ordered a free to grow carrier from Tula and it was both on the website and my email confirmation with black straps but sent with white straps. I specifically wanted black straps as it fits in with clothing better. Their phone line is impossible to get through to. At any given time it always says it has a high volume of callers and to try back later. My email wasn't responded to until over a week later. Now I've lost the discount I purchased with.

I don't really want to give them business anymore. Any similar suggestions for baby carriers that are light and breathable but feel secure? We plan to use it quite a bit and take our baby to family-friendly festivals and her father's gigs one day. But, we also want to use it around the house to be hands free so don't want anything too bulky. Thanks

Fit Check Looks wrong :(

My first hated babywearing until she could face outward so I never used this with an infant. We have an upcoming outing and an upcoming flight (moving across the country 😅) so baby sis will HAVE to be worn but I feel like this isn’t correct.

She is 22.5” long and 11lbs 2oz. Carrier is Artipoppe.

Feels like the head support is too stretched so not supportive? Especially when she’s upset and arching her back like in the 2nd pic. It doesn’t cover her head when flipped down. Not sure if I should be buttoning in the buttonhole instead of stretchy bands but then that seems too tight.

Please help!! I’d really love to stick with the artipoppe if it’s safe because the structure is user friendly for me.

Can we use onbuhimo yet?

Baby is only 16 weeks, with good head control though. Can he be worn in an onbuhimo on my back yet? What about on my front? About to buy a lenny lamb onbuhimo. I’ve seen people wear little babies on high back, but it was with a wrap. Is a wrap the only way? Thanks in advance!

ISO Bra Recommendations

Moms…what bras are we wearing while baby wearing??? My baby is formula-fed, so I do not need a nursing bra. However, I have 2 under 2 so the newborn is always in the carrier and with the heat kicking in for the summer I’m struggling. Wearing sports bras is just giving me a uniboob and all kinds of under boob sweat, but the idea of wearing a wired bra while baby wearing sounds like a nightmare. HELP!

Discuss Warm weather, hiking, option to back carry, grows with baby

Hey all! I have a grownsy soft buckle carrier that I’m using a lot. (see previous post if curious- baby likes being in the carrier now!) But now that it’s warmer out we are getting pretty warm with the material and darker color in the sun. I was also recently informed at a baby wearing meet that my baby is going to soon outgrown it because his legs will be too long for it to support him knee to knee. I’m looking for a new carrier that I can hopefully use for at least the next year (baby is 5 months 16.5lbs)

My questions: How important is knee to knee? Have any of you tried the ergo omni 360 linen?

I’m looking for basically the title- something linen or linen blend, has the option to back carry, and that he won’t outgrow too quickly.

So far I’m looking at the ergobaby omni 360 linen, happy baby, lark, Tula, and integrababy. Not currently interested in ring slings because I want the weight distributed on both sides. Please help me choose!

Fit Check Ergobaby Carrier Omni... Maybe?

I received this carrier secondhand so I'm not a hundred percent sure which carrier this is. That being said, I've been trying it out as baby is getting too heavy for my stretchy wrap.

I'm using what I think is the newborn insert but I'm not sure if he needs it as he is getting pretty big (14lbs, 65in). I'm also not sure if his legs are in the proper M-position. Thanks in advance for any input you might have!

Discuss Recommendations for carriers that work with a Pavlik harness?

Hi everyone! We just found out our little one needs to wear a hip dysplasia harness (the Pavlik harness). She absolutely loves being carried and it's a huge part of our daily routine, so I'm really hoping to keep babywearing through this.

We have our first appointment with the orthopedic specialist next week, and I want to bring a few solid options to show them and ask what's safe to use.
For parents who have been through this, which carriers worked best for you while your baby was in the harness? I'm looking for options that accommodate the wide, "frog-leg" positioning without putting pressure on the straps or forcing the legs together.

Whether it's a wrap, ring sling, apron-style, or a structured carrier, I'd love to hear what worked for you and any tips you have for adjusting them. Thank you so much!
