I bought a 201 8 Smart Fortwo electric last July (as our 2nd car). I’ve been enchanted ever since!!! One of the funnest cars I’ve ever driven! This thing accelerates almost like a motorcycle. It’s super agile. You’re seated quite high and parking that thing in dense areas is a fucking charm!!! (We live on the south shore of Montréal. That’s the car we use to go in town). Feels like you’re driving a Mario Kart car haha!
There are a few down points though if I want to be honest. That car is a little shaky. What I mean is that the distance between the wheels being short, you feel more the potholes and other road imperfections.
The battery range is limited (160-170km in the summer time without AC).
That being said, if you don’t really ever have to do more than 100km round trips, don’t have to haul large things (you can still fit 2 carry on sized suitcases in the trunk) it costs me an average of 2$/100km of electricity (@10cents/Kwh in Québec).
The maintenance costs are super low. There is a dynamo that sets on when you release the throttle to recuperate energy. It must be doing 70% of the breaking for me! Tires and wheels are small and cheap.
I Love It!!!!!

One person budgets, the other will wrap the car they can't drive around a pole.

Yeah, that much horsepower at their age? Good luck responsibly driving something with that kind of power lol. With the way some younger international students drive here, half of them barely even know the rules of the road properly and they’re out here driving 600+ horsepower luxury cars just because they’re expensive and flashy. It genuinely makes you wonder if some of them just buy whatever costs the most instead of actually thinking about what they’re driving or caring about their own or other people’s safety.

McLaren isn’t a boomer car. That’s someone young.
