What is your favourite Belgian brand? (Food, drinks, cosmetics, clothes, accessories etc)

I was wondering what is your favourite Belgium brand:
it can be anything from food, cosmetics, even clothes and accessories. Mainly because I am interested in buying more local products and I don’t know where to start from/look for them.

Ritchie.

I drink it instead of Coca Cola and Fanta.

I just tried there "Blood Orange with a hint of passion fruit", and "Lemon with a hint of raspberry. Very nice.

I also like the blood orange one, but I'm not very fond of the lemon. My wife likes it though

I am obsessed!

Ritchie lemonade 🤤

I just find it crazy expensive... I always go on holiday to a little city in Austria called Murau. They have a brewerie that also produced lemonades of about the same quality, about 8 different ones. I can buy a crate of 24 0,5l bottles for 17 euros, that's 1,4 euro/l. Ritchie in the colruyt is already more than three times the price...

I just hate their marketing, so sexist and ignorant with the excuse of going for “vintage aesthetic”

1

u/Mortaest 4d ago

What marketing? I've never seen an ad for them (Wallonia)

Belgian brands of mayo based sauces. D&L, La William etc. Also the ”salads” made with them. These things exist in other countries, but Belgian ones taste just so much better. Even a basic bitch tuna mayo tastes better in Belgium than in any other countries I’ve tried it.

u/loicvanderwiel 5d ago

You can thank the mayonnaise royal decree for that one

1

u/Bubelle_Butt 4d ago

The what now?

1

u/loicvanderwiel 4d ago

There's a royal decree regulating mayonnaise

1

u/Bubelle_Butt 4d ago

Huh...

Leave it to Belgium to regulate everything.

But for once ita not a bad thing.

3

u/loicvanderwiel 4d ago

It's fairly light as far as regulations go. It's mostly about garanteeing minimum fat and egg content in anything labelled "mayonnaise". The rest is up to the manufacturer.

IIRC, this was done to prevent manufacturers from cheating on what they put exactly in their mayo

1

u/Bubelle_Butt 4d ago

I understand, that is why I added the " its not that bad" in the end.

But regulatuon mayonaise is such a Belgian thing todo do :D

Sadly we cant trust corporations to just make money of a good product anynmore.

Sadly "enshittification" has become a thing.

Don't forget about Pauwels!!! If you want a mayo or samurai, damn Pauwels is top class.

A long time ago (before y2k), I was buying clothes brand called Système Nouveau. Baggy pants with flashy colours, vinyl / plasticky inserts. 2 shops, with one within Agora's Gallery managed by two gorgeous tattooed-pierced gothic girls. I went there for the price! 1 pant 500BeF (12.5€), 2 for 800BeF (20€), 3 for 1000BeF (25€) (and even a 4th one gratis)

I like the style, and it was unique (flashy velvet-like orange pants)

2

u/______username_ 4d ago

Ohh, I completely forgot about système Niveau. It was definitely not my style but I remember it.

1

u/MazzinWx 3d ago

I can understand, it was uncommon baggy pants design with weird fabrics;)

Delhaize beer 365 was a hit a few years ago

7

u/Murmurmira 5d ago

The local farmer for meat and ice cream. Look for hoevewinkel, schapenijs, boerderij(winkel).

For clothes I know Essentiel Antwerpen is a (higher end) local fashion maker

6

u/Riddle_007 5d ago

I really liked cowboy bikes when that came out. But they lost my trust now. Croky is great, Côte d’Or too.

But my real favorites now are Cartamundi and Kipling.

u/Xinghis 5d ago

Côté d’or is not belgian anymore, it has been bought buy Mondelez (aka Kraft Food) (USA)

1

u/SandySpinach 4d ago

And is produced in Poland. The horror.

1

u/Niawka 4d ago

Wtf it's produced in Poland and I still have to bring 6 bars every time I go back to visit my family, because they can't buy it there?

1

u/EVmerch 4d ago

It likely is but is sold under a different name. Walmart use to sell Belgian Chocolate in the US which I was 99% sure was rebranded Cote a dor produced, but I haven't check if it's still that way.

1

u/Niawka 4d ago

Hmm I'll check but never seen anything similar. All the chocolates I see in Polish stores are thin 80g bars. That chocolate ruined all other chocolates for me, so good (even if not Belgian anymore.)

Ambiorix shoes (tho these days I also wear a lot of Van Bommels which are dutch) and terre bleu clothes. Kaai bags are also cool, the wife has one and loves it.

And I second the guy saying local market products. We havent bought cheese, meat or fish in the supermarket for over two years.

3

u/error_notification 5d ago

Ambiorix is awesome! My oldest pair is 12 years old, still perfect.

Roman lemonades. Drank their cola in a cafe recently and I really liked it, more than Ritchie. Just can't find it in stores as easily.

1

u/NoExcuseTruse 4d ago

You might find it in a drankencentrale type of shop

1

u/Xentine 4d ago

There's a local coffee place that has them and I'm going to ask the owner where he gets them, next time I'm there. My two local drankenhandels (one of which is a very large Prik&Tik) don't have them.

I’m surprised no one has brought up Cassonade Graeffe (kindersuiker). It’s a bit silly to call that a favourite brand but it’s one of those products you’ll have a hard time finding a worthy equivalent of anywhere else.

De Drie Wilgen (fruit juice).

Gimber (ginger drink).

Loop (ear plugs).

PrimaDonna (bras).

De Witte Lietaer (towels/linens).
