Personally, I just rent a GTXgaming server. 90% of the PVE servers are built like a microtransaction store and it's just disheartening wanting to breed natural dinos in the game when you can buy the Shiny Whatever-Variant at level cap for a "donation" not that I'm a big fan of those mods anyway as Level 150-225s are already so strong. You can tune every mod to your liking and every setting naturally. And the server rental itself is pretty solid. 16 bucks, but you get a Ryzen 9, 12GB of ram (enough for me and another), NVME speeds, and so on and it runs excellently compared to a really cheap Minecraft server or something lol.
Just a decent option even if it does cost a little bit of money.
Of course but it still kinda invalidates a normal server economy based on in-game resources and dinos when you just use genned ones. Those servers literally generate hundreds of months in subscriptions alone (from what I've seen on some of their Patreons) and don't forget all of the single purchases too. I love trading with a friend for another of their cool tames or breeds or giving them something I have for a ton of resources. That's just not feasible in a pay-focused server and I simply find it irking to play on.
If I ever did open the server up like that, the only money I would take is either a direct link to pay for server credits which GTX does or a pool of funds to be used for the server's own hardware. I don't want random people's money for my own. You can buy a map for the cluster or something. Maybe I would consider something like changing the colors of a dino for five bucks as a small treat or the like.
It just turns a beloved game into a money racket. Wildcard does that enough lmfao. PvP has a ton of outside economy baked into too. I had a friend who made like 2k a month off Ark selling eggs and raising them for small tribes.
My server I play on neuters the super tames so that doesn’t happen. PvP is a whole different story. That said who really cares about the economy, just play the game, it’s PVE, it’s not really a big deal
