Her husband died in 2023. Her 6 year old is now an orphan.

Edit: 5 -> 6, linked source, removed word “toddler” as I was quoting from elsewhere

Crushing

Absolutely soul crushing.

Could we send some love to him? A public letter to this child to tell him the whole world is grieving with him? We can’t let this child feel so alone 😭

Her wife could probably use one as well.

u/Bozhark Jan 08 '26

Nah let’s send it to the officer at charge

Her current wife was in the car though according to reports.

I’m glad her kid has her wife. I hope they have a strong relationship 💔

Both of their biological parents are dead.

Ohhhh shit I didnt even think of it that way..... SMH what a tragedy

63

u/mxmoon Jan 08 '26

Oh my god. I cannot imagine how devastating that must have been to witness.

There is a video of her sobbing in the snow after the fact… I can’t bring myself to watch it but I’m bringing it up since people should know the horror of this

u/WitchQween Jan 08 '26

She had a very loving dog with her in the video I saw. It was comforting to see that she wasn't completely alone, and the dog was very persistent in being the center of her attention.

Do you have a link to something that references her? I've seen people talking about her wife being in the car(and repeated it myself in another thread), but I just spent 20 minutes looking through articles and nothing even mentions a passenger, let alone a spouse.

The closest thing I could find was a video of someone walking towards the car immediately after it crashes, it looks like there's a woman standing in the open drivers side door hugging her, but she's seen walking towards the car at the start.

Edit: found it https://mastodon.social/@heidilifeldman/115855956115209332

If you watch the full ~4min video, her wife is reportedly the woman in the blue flannel outside the car when it happened, who ran over to her after it crashed. The wife can then be seen inside the car on top of her in the driver seat hugging/holding onto her body as she died or right after she died there in the driver seat.

u/Bug-Secure Jan 08 '26

What reports? Also, was that her wife? In The Advocate article her mom refers to her as her daughter’s partner.

So sad. 💔

33

u/Kyanpe Jan 08 '26

In 6 short years this poor kid lived through a pandemic, end of democracy, and losing both parents

3

u/Alone_Position9152 Jan 08 '26

I would not be surprised if this poor kid hates the U.S. forever.

And I can't blame them. They only thing that separates me from MAGA is having autism and not being super rich. Otherwise I'm as lily white American as can be, also being white, male, and straight. And I loathe what America has become under Trump and his fascist goons. These demons nothing less than eternal damnation, and not a moment's peace or rest for their souls for the rest of eternity.

Now I'm really understanding why some religions (especially Christianity) preach that, for one lifetime of sin, the price is eternal damnation, filled with pain and suffering that never ends and never stops for even a single moment.

52

u/mcdisease Jan 08 '26

And his dad was a 14 year Airforce veteran and they’re calling his mom a terrorist. Pedo Trump fucked this kid.

21

u/dragonfry Jan 08 '26

This has shattered my heart.

I’m in Australia but I’m with you all in spirit.

For Good x

8

u/Hidesuru Jan 08 '26

Oh God that poor baby. I just wanna give them a hug and tell them it'll be all right, but that would be a lie anyway.

3

u/lurkingtobeinformed Jan 08 '26

FOR GOOD, THIS IS THE WAY

3

u/Anarchist_Future International Jan 08 '26

"When I was six, my mother was executed by masked neo-nazi's that got recruited by a fascist president to kidnap immigrants." Jesus Christ, 2026 people, this is really happening and I'm really worried for US residents that this will not be an isolated case. Please be safe but don't let this pass.

1

u/mentally_fuckin_eel Jan 08 '26

No fuckin way. God damn. Now I'm even more upset. But thank you for giving me this information. It's good to know these things, as painful as it is.

1

u/Anxious-Outcome- Jan 08 '26

Oh my god, that poor baby. This is devastating.

Devastating, I can’t believe this. That poor child.

5 year old toddler? What’s the cutoff for toddler? English as a second language here not trying to be a smartass. It just sounds funny

ETA I appreciate that she was protesting but gosh she was the only one left for that kid…why put herself in that position and risk this tragedy… 😞

ETA2 I KNOW IT DOESNT MATTER, chill out tho. It’s a simple question from a non-native person. Geez.

8

u/FUTRage Jan 08 '26

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but usually

0-2: Infant 2-5: Toddler 6+: Kid/Child

2

u/bellapippin Jan 08 '26

Ty I always considered it more like 2-3 only. But then again not my language haha that’s just what I picture.

2

u/mermaid_pants Jan 08 '26

I am a native speaker and I agree that toddler is usually used for kids around 2-3. Calling a 5 year old a toddler is kind of odd

-37

u/lavahot Jan 08 '26

Toddlers are not 6 years old.

32

u/GenericFatGuy Jan 08 '26

Yeah, because that's the thing to focus on here.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Well it is true that a 6 year old is not a toddler. It actually makes it more horrifying because at 6 this child will understand exactly what happened to their mother and be able to comprehend this and remember it, forever. So it is important to be factual, it doesn't make it any less horrifying that her child is not a toddler. We don't need to make it sound worse by calling a child and toddler, it's actually already fucking awful.

3

u/Farewellandadieu Jan 08 '26

I couldn’t agree more. Is it not horrible enough that a 6 year old lost their mother?

5

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Yes. I'm 37 and I have a 6 year old. My toddler would be much less traumatized (I think) by my death than my 6 year old in the moment. My 6 year tells me he loves me every single day, he loves to talk about how our eyes match, he comes home with pictures he drew for me, he even colors my hair purple when it is actually purple and not blonde. He pays attention, I'm so lucky that I am the center of his universe. If he lost me and I lost him, this would be a core and horrifying memory for him and life long trauma.

This poor kid lost both of their parents and they havent even hit double digits. All of their memories likely contain their mother, memories are now "before mom was murdered" and "after mom was murdered". Toddlers don't have that, but 6 year olds do. This fucking guts me just typing this out. Now I'm crying.

What is wrong with you? That’s what you find most pertinent to this conversation?

-3

u/lavahot Jan 08 '26

We're only allowed to talk about the most pertinent points in conversation? In a wide open web, we have to limit our speech? Because God forbid media hype exists?

25

u/Built-in-Light Jan 08 '26

You’re right. First grade is practically adulthood.

-15

u/lavahot Jan 08 '26

If you're willing to embellish the truth, then you might as well be lying. What's the point in embellishing the age of a child?
