What if a Zutara firstborn child is a water bender?
Let’s put aside all the well-known reasons why people ship Zutara. What really fascinates me is the potential family drama. Imagine if their firstborn child turned out to be a waterbender - the future Fire Lord being a waterbender.
I can already see so many interesting plot directions from that alone. How would Zuko and Katara handle it? Would they try to have more children in hopes of a firebender heir (as it happened with Tenzin)? How would the waterbending child feel growing up with that pressure? And how would the Fire Nation react to it?
I write fanfiction in my spare time, and now I can’t let go of this idea. It would make such an interesting story to read.

Bryke's negative feelings for Zutara are well known, but I wonder what negative things they would say about Taang?

Question of the Day: How do you think Zuko and Katara’s first date goes? Location, activity, results.

Zutara Fanfiction Recs
Hey Zutara community, I’m searching for well-written, believable Zutara fanfics set in a post-war timeline — no AUs that change the core of the Avatar world. So far, the only fic that’s really hit the mark for me is Fall of the White Lotus. Here’s exactly what I’m looking for: * Post-canon setting with realistic worldbuilding, especially focused on Fire Nation politics or broader rebuilding after the war * Zuko and Katara act like emotionally mature young adults, shaped by the war, not behaving like over-dramatic teens * They grow into being two of the most powerful benders of their respective elements — but it’s earned, not over-the-top or rushed * A slow-burn romance that develops naturally through shared experience, trust, and vulnerability * Aang is still the Avatar and important, not sidelined — portrayed as idealistic but growing, and still central to the post-war balance * Themes like healing, leadership, political complexity, and cultural restoration are a huge plus * Characterization should feel canon-consistent but aged up believably — I want dialogue, emotions, and choices that make sense for what they’ve been through * Prefer completed or long, active fics — no one-shots or WIPs that trail off Basically: if you’ve read Fall of the White Lotus, you know the tone I’m going for. I want stories that take the characters and the world seriously, and treat the Zutara relationship as something that develops with weight and realism — no tropes, no shortcuts. Would love your best recs. Thanks so much in advance!
