Discussion The Unsinkable Mommy Adler

Post image
50 Upvotes

The Unsinkable Mommy Adler(Season 1, Episode 13). Grace's mom, Bobbi Adler, is in town and Grace is panicking. Bobbi Adler is a cute, vivacious little sprite who is an actress and a force to be reckoned with. Grace loves her but has somewhat of a troubled relationship when Bobbi tells her how to act or look. At lunch with Bobbi, Will and Grace, Grace brings up to Will how Bobbi loves their friendship and wouldn't mind seeing them married thinking it's just a funny joke. Will laughs it off but adds that he wouldn't marry Grace even if he was straight(OUCH). This sends Grace into a panic wondering what's wrong with her if she can't get a gay guy to even hypothetically marry her. Meanwhile, Karen has a pregnancy scare and Jack helps her out with the test. She's not pregnant in the ending scene but you can tell she might not have minded if she was.

Favorite Quote:

GRACE: Mom...mom, what I'm trying to say to you is that... You always need to be the center of attention. In a restaurant, in your marriage. You always have to be the star.

BOBBI: God cast me in the role.

Favorite Moment:

Bobbi and Karen singing and dancing to "Good Morning" together was way too cute, fun and a great nod to Debbie Reynold's iconic role in Singing in the Rain.

Opinion:

How could you not love Bobbie Adler? First off Debbie Reynolds was just a legend and an amazing icon of old Hollywood. She's funny and energetic and has great chemistry with the cast. Her last scene with Grace telling her to embrace who she is was truly touching. I found it interesting that Will said so quickly that he wouldn't marry Grace even if he was straight, he and Grace have wonderful chemistry together. Maybe he just said it thinking the whole thing was a joke, but still, that was kind of mean the way he was so quick to write her off. Especially considering we find out in future episodes he did ask her to marry him. Karen having her pregnancy scare wasn't anything too memorable, but Jack giving her that hug when he sees that she's secretly disappointed that she's not pregnant was very sweet and shows that their friendship is more than money and making fun of others. Very fun episode and a great intro for our lovely Bobbi ❤️(RIP to beautiful Debbie Reynolds)

Discussion My Fair Maid Y

Post image
18 Upvotes

My Fair Maid Y(Season 1, Episode 12). Grace has a huge project where she can be selected for one of the top interior designers of New York. The apartment is a mess and Grace...well MORE SO WILL, can't live in a messy apartment, Will hires a maid to help out. Grace is stuck with what project to use for her display, but the maid decides to help her out with her confidence with a simple solution: just scream at Grace. Meanwhile, Jack meets a guy who thinks Jack is a lawyer. Jack keeps bothering Will at work to switch places so he can keep up the charade.

Favorite Quote:

APRIL: When I get down on myself, my mom had this saying that always made me feel better. Let me see how she put it. Let me see if I can get it right. Aaaahhhh!

GRACE: Your mother wasn't Sam Kinison, by any chance, was she?

APRIL: What does it say on your door? It doesn't say "Grace Adler Whines." It says "Grace Adler Designs." So--so quit beating yourself up and just do it.

GRACE: But I can't--

APRIL: Do it! Do it!

GRACE: Ok, ok! You know, Mary Poppins got the same message across, but she did it in a nice little musical number. You're like... you're like a spoonful of whup-ass.

Favorite Moment:

I think when Jack's lie backfires. It turns out the guy he's been lying to about being an attorney wants someone who's not so intimidating and ambitious and decides he'd rather go for Will(who he thinks is Jack's aloof assistant LOL)

Opinion:

Another very fun episode. Wendie Jo Sperber as April was a hoot, her yelling at Grace always gets me laughing. I love the closing scene where Will & Grace are meditating on her display doing the "Ummmmmm..." lines. We also see Grace doesn't handle pressure too well. I should maybe start to add the fun fashion quips from Karen, her making fun of Grace's "bat-mitzvah ruffles" 🤣 Jack running back and forth trying to play attorney for his new guy was great too. Overall this is another fun episode with great quotes and acting from the cast.

Will on Ice

Will on Ice(Season 1, Episode 11). It's Will's birthday and all he wants is for everyone else to be happy and have a good time. Grace plans a friend's dinner at Will's favorite restaurant. Jack and Grace haven't been getting along lately though and Will tries to get them to get along and through a game Grace and Jack find out they have a common love for ice skating. Jack even gets them Champions on Ice tickets, but there's one problem, it's on Will's birthday when they are doing their friend dinner at his favorite restaurant. Will still wants everyone to be happy so agrees they can go, but he and Karen are not into ice skating and are having a lousy time at the event.

Favorite Quote:

WILL: Yep. We get it, Surya. You can skate. How much longer is Champions on Ice?

KAREN: You mean, "Endless on Ice?"

WILL: Pretty soon, I'd better be looking at some oysters on ice. I'm starving.

KAREN: Skate faster! We have reservations!

Favorite Moment:

The whole champions on ice scene. I love Grace and Jack getting so excited and geeked up to see their favorite skaters and they even have T-shirts on 😂 But Will and Karen for sure take the scene with their hatred of the sport. Poor Will, he had to wait an hour for stale popcorn only for Grace to knock it right out of his hands!

Opinion:

I love this episode, season 1 just keeps dominating here. First off, we get a glimpse of what Will was like as a kid always trying to make everyone else happy not worrying about his own feelings. Will has his flaws, but he is a kind man who wants to make sure everyone else is taken care of. Too bad he's surrounded by narcissists 😂 Secondly, it was kind of odd that Grace and Jack didn't like each other for a few minutes of the episode, I wish the writers said like they got into a tiff earlier or something. But I still always love their excitement and when Grace jumps into Jack's arms when he said he got the tickets for Champions on Ice was so hilarious and even heartwarming. Such a fun episode and I'm glad Will got his cowboy birthday cake at the end ❤️

The Big Vent

Post image
54 Upvotes

The Big Vent. It's cold, Will & Grace huddle around the vent to get some heat but overhear the neighbors downstairs and their troubled marriage. They quickly become addicted to the real life soap opera and won't do anything else outside of eavesdropping. Jack has written a play and Karen critiques it and recommends that Jack write something he's more familiar with. Jack being upset with Will & Grace makes a play mocking their selfishness.

Favorite Quote:

JACK: He's the only guy that showed up for the audition, and I didn't have the heart to tell him he didn't get the part. Actually, I didn't have the guts to tell him.

KAREN: All right. I'll take care of it. Hi. Listen... Um... Oh. honey, I think you got a little barbecue sauce just ... there. Yeah. There ya go. Got it. Gotta remember to wear a bib when you're eating those dinosaur legs. Ha ha ha ha! Oh... [POINTING TO HIS OUTFIT] I love this. But, you know, uh, we feel that the character is coming off too, uh... Jewish.

Favorite moment:

When Grace is updating Will on the gossip with their neighbors and calls her neighbor "Ooey" because thats all she can hear 🤣 Will meets "Ooey" and gets invested to

Opinion:

Overall a good episode. It was funny to see Will & Grace obsessing over their neighbor's drama and it was kind of surreal seeing the ending scene where the neighbors were spying on Will & Grace too. Karen having to break the news to the island native that he didnt get the part in Jack's play always has me in stitches. Jack's play mocking Will & Grace gets me as well, though I always found it strange how he guilted Will & Grace so easily. Man, they are guliable 🤣

The truth about Will and dogs

Post image
24 Upvotes

The truth about Will and dogs. Grace is itching to get a pet dog after hearing their friends brag about their dogs. Will is hesitant but it's love at first site when he meets the dog that Grace adopts. However the love turns to obsession as Will is more interested in what brand of water bottle the dog wants vs going out on a date. Will realizes they dont have enough time for the dog with their full time jobs and let Jack have him.

Favorite quote:

WILL: Is that him?

GRACE: No. It's veteran character actor Charles Durning.

Favorite moment:

When Jack and Karen come over to dog sit. Jack is having a blast with the dog while Karen is "cleaning out" Grace's closet 🤣

Opinion:

Over all its a fun episode, not my favorite in the season. I love pets and I do fawn over my own and am still in a healthy loving marriage. But it was weird the way Will became obsessive over the dog and I wished Grace was more understanding of why he clinged to the dog. Will is still hurting from his breakup and needs someone to really love him for who he is. I always wondered why the writers didnt have in future episodes Will getting excited to see the dog again when he would see Jack with the dog?

Question Patrick Dempsey character question, is that something you cant work on or get past normally? Do people like him?

Im straight and this is maybe top 2 3 shows for me one thats on constant replay at nights to sleep. Being straight, that whole dating someone who is somewhat closeted i don't know about, if will liked him that much is that a serious issue in reality you cant get past? I took into account he worked in sports, it didnt show much how he was around outside the professional world or if hed lie to random people but he was flirting with Jack at first didnt seem like he cared if most people knew. His boss and that world he hid it from but just curious if thats something you break it off clean from or work through normally... idk why I cant remember his name lol Patrick Dempsey played him. I dont have any main ties to the character or really like or hate, just curious about that situation 🤔

The Buying Game

The Buying Game. Grace has a chance to expand her space for her business and is in negotiations with her landlord. Will manages to get him to lower the price but at the expense of making Grace look like she has no idea what shes doing. Grace is hurt and wants Will to acknowledge she knows business. Jack as become a massage therapist and uses Karen for practice, but Karen gets too used to Jack's amazing hands and demands all his attention.

Favorite quote:

GRACE: You know what the funny part is? There is no funny part. My life is so unfunny, Mr. Hutt, it's not even... funny. I mean, what am I doing taking on a mortgage? I mean, m-my life is already a mess. I'm still renting an apartment, I don't have a driver's license, I'm not married, I live with a gay guy...

WILL: Grace--

GRACE: I haven't had sex in five months! And I was in Bloomingdale's this morning waiting on line to buy wrinkle cream, and this Jennifer-Love-Michelle-Sarah-Felicity-looking thing...bumps into me and says, "Excuse me...Ma'am"

Favorite moment:

I think the last negotiation scene with Grace breaking down always gets me on this one. Good acting on Debras part. But I love Megan as Karen telling Jack he belongs to her now 🤣

Opinion:

Very funny episode. I think this is one of many Jack's first career changes 🤣 i wonder why they didnt revisit this one? Will's British accent always makes me laugh. And it was fun to see Grace stand up for herself in this one

Where There's a Will, There's No Way

Post image

Where there's a Will, there's no way. Grace is having a hard time finding romance with any guy she dates. Thinking it might be her friendship with Will, feeling too comfortable and fun, she asks if they can separate their friendship for a bit till she finds chemistry with a guy again. Jack is in trouble with the IRS and Will helps him.

Favorite Quote:

GRACE: Yes. Look, Will, I have to make room in my life for romance. Let's just do this, at least for a couple of weeks.

WILL: I think you're wrong.

GRACE: I think I'm right.

WILL: I'd like to go on record as saying I think this is ridiculous!

GRACE: Note taken.

WILL: Any more rules?

GRACE: One. It starts immediately.

WILL: Fine. [watching Grace getting a bowl of cereal.] Feeling horny yet?

Favorite moment:

Either the iconic dance with Will and Grace or Jack trying to negotiate with the IRS agent 🤣

Opinion:

This is the first episode where Grace irritates me a little bit. I get she's frustrated because shes not clicking with any guys but she took it on Will way too easily. But at least Will gave her a taste of her own medicine at the ending scene when hes playing poker with friends. But still its a funny episode and I enjoy watching it.

Estefan is not well characterised as Spanish

There's this non-stop confusion about Spain vs México/Latam in US culture/shows. In this last episode (season's 10 finale) I even saw the airport's screens showing "Barcelona, Spain". Pfff, that's not even Spain, but Catalonia. At any rate, even if we put Catalonia aside, how is Estefan Spanish? His name is not Spanish, his annoying tradition about coins is not typical in Spain (a very few people do it, while a majority doesn't even know about that), and the lisp doesn't match a Spanish accent (only people in Latam use that stereotype to joke about Spaniards, even if Spaniards don't talk like that).

I know it's not a big deal in this show (and it's far worse in other shows), but these ignorant stereotypes are like a plague in TV/film production in the US. It's not that difficult to educate yourself just a little. We have Google. It's only a few minutes.

EDIT: guys, calm down. My side comment about Catalonia is not the main point here. I even said "if we put Catalonia aside" and this post is obviously defending the Spanish identity, as it's usually not well portrayed in films and shows (and Catalan culture is different, so that difference is even bigger). Just for your information, most Catalans want independence for centuries because of historical reasons. We even organized a referendum and Spain brought police and army to beat the shit out of us and avoid the voting (while criminals roam the streets, no consequence, and we got beaten because we wanted to place a piece of paper within a box). It's a very complex issue. You can DM me about that and I will gladly share more info with you. Even if you don't agree, please understand that it's our issue and that being angry because we have a separate identity which we defend is as absurd as if I get offended because one state in the US wants independence one day: I may have an opinion, but it's not my problem and the people concerned about that are the people who live there, not me, at a few thousand kms far away. Or a non-fictional example, but a real one: Scottish people want independence from the UK. It's their business. Who am I to tell a Scot how to feel about their own land/identity? Thank you for understanding!

William, tell

Post image

William, tell. After Grace finds out from Jack about a secret lover that Will had she never knew about, she questions if he has any other secrets. Karen is looking for a potential divorce attorney and is talking to Will about her options and rocky marriage. Will having to protect Karen's identity, Grace mistakenly thinks that Will is hiding another secret from her.

Favorite quote:

GRACE: It's a secret. Now tell me, how does that make you feel?

WILL: Like a sorority girl in a bad slasher movie. Where are you?

GRACE: Let's just put it this way: The call is coming from inside the house.

Favorite moment:

I think Karen and Will meeting at his office. This is the first time we see them really together and getting to know each other a little bit. Karen and Will together is a very underrated duo. I also get a kick out of Jack's alien outfit when he comes to Will's house in the first scene and all the insults Will & Grace throw at him 🤣

Opinion:

Great episode. I love Karen and Will getting together. We got know a little about Karen's home life. A lot of great laughs. Grace acting crazy when she realizes she doesn't know EVERYTHING about Will was very funny and telling about their relationship. We will see Will freak out as well in the future when he finds out he didnt know EVERYTHINGA about Grace.

Boo! Humbug!

Post image

Boo Humbug. Will & Grace intend to have a nice quiet Halloween watching movies but Harlin comes over with his kids asking Will to babysit while he takes care of business. The kids are dressed up as Richard Nixon and a bumblebee and are acting like mimes since they never talk. The kids hate the night at first as Will & Grace have no clue how to entertain kids, but finally the spirit of Halloween embraces them and they end having more fun than expected with the kids. Jack and Karen go downtown for a costume party where Karen is worshipped for looking like an incredible drag queen.

Favorite quote:

WILL: Come on, Buzz. Don't make me pull rank on you. I am, after all, a giant man. And you are just a wee bee. Now I want that jawbreaker. Whoa! He pulls out the silly string. This is between me and your sister, mister. And besides, I think you're bluffing.

GRACE: I don't know. He bombed Cambodia. I think he'd silly-string you as soon as look at you.

Favorite moment:

I love Jack and Karen's costume party and when they're coming up with drag names 🤣 but I of course also love the scene where Will, Grace finally see the kid's faces.

Opinion:

Another amazing iconic episode. I always forget how good season 1 is. While there's not much in character development here, we still see Will & Grace can let their inner kid get out every once in a while and have fun. Harlin's kids being silent the entire episode made for a really good laugh. And Karen and Jack are incredible as body and Soul 🤣 love this episode!

Between a rock and Harlin's place

Post image

Between a rock and Harlin's place. Hatlin has just moved into town and Will asks Grace if she can design his apartment. Worrying about Will's control issues Grace says no at first, but after Will promises not to butt in, she accepts. But after Will sees the start of the design in Harlin's apartment, he keeps saying little remarks in front of Harlin that causes Grace to lose the job. Jack has now started his official one man show "Just Jack!" and the group goes to the club to support him on his first night.

Favorite quote:

WILL: What was that apartment all about? I mean, could you have been more insulting? It looked like Gene Autry exploded in there.

GRACE: I didn't design it for you, Will. I did it for a 6'4" man from Texas. If I was doing young gay lawyer, it'd be deco with fear-based bitchy wallpaper.

WILL: I know Harlin.

GRACE: Yeah, and I know design. If you called me at work and I wasn't there, the answering machine would say, "Grace Adler Designs." If you opened my purse, my business card would say "Grace Adler Designs." Seems like the only person who doesn't know Grace Adler designs is her best friend. Let me introduce myself. I'm Grace Adler. I design!

Favorite moment:

Again this is tough. I'd say probably the end where Grace is making Will sign the napkin to promise he'll never butt in again. But I also love Jack's first night where the microphone was falling down and Karen had to readjust it 🤣

Opinion:

Again season 1 is killing with the laughs. We got Jack's first running gag of "Just Jack", and Karen being supportive of his career and helping him. As for Harlin's apartment, I was actually with Will, those designs were crazy 🤣 but Will should have kept his mouth shut to let Harlin decide if he liked it. Poor Grace, she earned that cheesecake to eat her feelings into 🤣 terrific episode ❤️

Head Case

Post image

Head Case. As Will & Grace adjust to living together, Grace asks if they can share the bathroom due to hers being so small. Will has a problem sharing but realizes that its his flaw that maybe the downfall of his relationships in the past and tries fo change. Grace has an idea to make one big bathroom and at first Will is on board but is having a hard time letting go of his control issues.

Favorite quote:

JACK: Will, you've had one common problem in all your relationships. You.

WILL: Jack, I'm good at relationships.

JACK: Are you? Hmm, let's take a look at a little clip from when it was still the "Michael and Will Show"... Before it was canceled. "Will, can I change your throw pillows?" -- "No!" -- "Will, can I put my sweaters on your shelf?" -- "No!" -- "Will, can anyone live with a control freak nightmare like you?" I'm gonna say "no."

(Honorable mention to Karen saying "God, look at me, I'm assisting my @ss off" 🤣🤣🤣)

Favorite moment:

This is a very tough one, so I'll tie it between Harlun coming over feeling the major tension between Will & Grace saying it felt like an evening with the Mrs. The other being Will coming to terms with his flaws and making up with Grace(while she's in the bathtub 🤣) showing he can grow.

Opinion:

I really love this episode. It's very funny and our characters are growing. I think a lot of people can relate when you get a new roommate or are adjusting to living with someone you're in a relationship with. Though I was always curious what Grace's new bathroom looked like, we never got to see the final project. I love a good bathroom 🤣 oh well

A New Lease on Life

A New Lease on Life. After breaking up with Danny, Grace finds herself having to look for a new apartment. Wanting to skip the middle man, she asks Will(who has already offered his best friend Jack to move in with him), Will says no to Grace worrying they may become too dependent on one another. But after Grace finds an apartment in Brooklyn, Will realizes he doesn't want his best friend too far and asks Grace to move in with him.

Favorite quote:

WILL: No, it's just a friend who's staying with me temporarily. He keeps odd hours, he's got the energy of a ferret. He's messy, and he's got this enormous bird.

HARLIN: Uh, by bird, you mean...?

WILL: Bird.

HARLIN: Just checkin

Favorite moment:

Easy pick but it's just too iconic. JACK AND KAREN MEET ❤️😁❤️😁❤️ Let's touch stomachs! One of the funniest, best TV duos of all time.

As for the episode itself, I like this one. It makes me laugh and really starts establishing our characters. You realize Will & Graces relationship is both very loving but at the same time too codependent which will create a really interesting show.

Pilot

Post image
30 Upvotes

For fun, I thought us fans of Will and Grace could go through each episode. Talk about our opinions, favorite quotes, characters, maybe a fun tidbit that other fans may not know about.

Pilot. Will & Grace are friends from college. Will is gay, Grace is straight. Will is a lawyer and grace is an interior designer. Grace is in a relationship with Danny that seems to be going nowhere, but when he proposes, Will doesn't approve feeling Grace can do better. After an argument, Grace realizes Will is right and breaks up with Danny.

Favorite quote:

JACK: Grace, did you know I was gay when you met me?

GRACE: My dog knew.

Favorite moment:

The bar scene at the end where everyone thinks Will and Grace got married and they play along and kiss.

I think its a strong opener. We get to meet flamboyant, confident Jack and our favorite spoiled, rich alcoholic Karen. It's funny to see Wills hair more full vs clean cut in the next episode. The sets and fashion are fun and you can see why the pilot brought a strong audience in.

What are your opinions on the pilot episode?

TOM: Your mother's adorable.

WILL: Oh, thank you. Uh, yours too.

TOM: She's my best friend. Do you think that's weird?

WILL: No. No, no. No, I feel the same way about mine.

TOM: That's so good to hear, because so many guys I meet, it's like their mothers are impositions. It's such a turn-off.

WILL: They sicken me.

TOM: Our mothers gave us life. They nourished us. They were our dates to the prom.

WILL: Oh, I-- Listen, th-th-the greatest tragedy of my life was the day they yanked me from the breast of that saint. Heh...

TOM: If it's possible, you just got 10-percent cuter.

There are so many great quotes from this episode 🤣🤣🤣
