Just in case he doesn't answer I'll answer with what I think is the most popular reason, or at least among my friends.

PM is much easier to get, in my case I don't have an n64, melee is rare and I don't have a Wii u so PM was my go to

same, as somebody who wanted to get melee and is 16 so no job, pm was just easier to get because melee is like £30 over here in UK
