Meta Hello all, Samox here - creator of The Smash Brothers documentary mini-series - AMA!

This is my first AMA since the release of the documentary series. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend the remastered version with enhanced audio - The Smash Brothers.

I'll be back to start answering questions at 3pm EST. Until then, enjoy this special treat - one of the extra content pieces I've been working on for the donors: Stubborn Jigglypuff

EDIT: Okay - I'm gonna go eat food. I'll be back in an hour to answer more questions! EDIT2: Back! Answering more questions. EDIT 3: OKAY! Done for now. If I drink a little more, I may have Badlarry and Gamesbest get on here, but I think I'm spent. Check my twitter: https://twitter.com/_samox_ or website: www.eastpointpictures.com for updates on future projects or the youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/EastPointPictures for more stuff. LOVE YOU ALL. I'LL TALK TO YOU AGAIN SOON. MORE TO COME! :P

Verified, and thank you for doing a second AMA here.

So, how much was the total budget of this project? And how much came out of your own pocket?

Also, a lot of people are begging for more episodes. Is it on the radar? Is it possible?

The final expense report was around 12,000. About 5,000 or so I put on credit cards. Truth be told, the Kickstarter really only raised around 4k but a good amount of people donated via paypal, which helped shore that up a bit.

As for more episodes, I could definitely do one on Armada. His story is pretty awesome. As is Dr. PP's. But the only way I would do either is if I could raise the money legitimately. Not piecemeal like I did with the series.

Would it be possible to start up another kickstarter or donation drive? I'm sure the community would LOVE to see more episodes, since we've all seen the outstanding documentary. I would donate.

Great job btw!

I think that further fundraising now will be a lot easier because of the exposure gained from the series. I never saw the first kickstarter, but I would fund the hell out of a second one.

Just curious, do you know exactly how to budget a film? If you don't I have some advice: Needs change on set. Make sure you have extra to cover the random BS that can definitely pop up. Anything you have left over can be stored for future installments or used to make hard copies or something.

If this were successful, which I'm sure it would, what would the likelihood of a DVD followup w/ these episodes added be? I happened to miss the boat on the current DVD and would be more than happy to throw out some $ to get one along with any added episodes :D

Is there any subtitles available for it? I want them to translate to Portuguese. If they are not done, I want to try to subtitle it and them translate, if that's ok with you.

Thanks a lot for this. It's an amazing documentary.

I know of Spanish and Japanese subtitle initiatives. I would definitely endorse any effort you'd want to do. :)

Yeah this thing needs to be translated into every language possible! I think the Japanese version should be prioritized the most so Nintendo/Sakurai can actually understand what's going on. I'm sure they, even Sakurai, are aware of it already, but the language barrier is probably one of the few reasons as to why they haven't watched it yet.

Imagine how much this documentary can affect the future for the game and community? It already seems to be one of the main reasons as to why MLG wants to pick up the game again, and it seems like Nintendo even wants to cooperate this time. Perhaps it could even change some design philosophy on the next Smash Bros... probably not Smash 4 because it is already so deep into development, but if it did affect it for the better that would be awesome!!

Honestly this documentary was so necessary for people to understand why the community is so important, especially with the huge resurgence in exposure thanks to Evo 2013. It seems like the planets are almost perfectly aligned for us right now and a lot of that positioning is mainly due to your hard work, so thank you so much for making this!! I know a lot of other people have said it already, but I'll just add my signature to the list and say that if you start another crowdfunding campaign, I will be one of the many who will support you!

Please look into an Armada/PP episode. I would donate. Both players are awesome.

I would donate to an armada episode. that guy is my hero, and nothing in the documentary talked about any of the European scene. It would be a whole new perspective. PP too, he is just crazy good.
