A bit of an unusual post, but I’m hoping someone local to Quintana Roo might be willing to help me with something.
Back in 2020, I visited the Chacchoben ruins on a cruise excursion. While walking the site, I picked up a tiny pottery fragment from the ground and took it home with me as a souvenir. It’s only a few centimeters long and weighs basically nothing its just a small broken piece of an old pot.
Lately I’ve felt uncomfortable having it, so I reached out to the Mexican Consulate in New Jersey. They coordinated with INAH and reviewed photos of the fragment. I was told that the piece was considered unidentifiable / not of museum significance and that Mexico would not be seeking its return.
Even so, I’d still prefer not to keep it. I would feel better knowing it had been returned to Quintana Roo in some respectful way.
I’m looking for someone local who would be willing to receive the fragment by mail and place it somewhere in the natural environment outside the protected archaeological zone near Chacchoben or the surrounding area. I am NOT asking anyone to break rules, enter restricted areas, or put it back inside the protected site itself.
I’ll happily cover shipping costs.
If anyone local feels comfortable helping with this, send me a DM. Thanks.

Honestly all trade recommendations are very very welcome because you never k ow when you’ll need them, even from gardening to carpenters, literally all are welcome !
I’ve had so many trade workers that don’t explain what is actually going on and over charge (not just a little, which I honestly don’t mind , but like double the price)
Or the fix a problem that is not the actual problem
I just feel pretty dissatisfied
Again I’m okay with paying a bit extra but if the service is actually decent.
Compared to paying a lot extra for a service that is very poor or in some examples useless
Does anyone have any recommendations??

Gracias

I love the way Mexico celebrates every time I visit. LOL, not celebrating me, but there just seems to be a parade, party, or dance happening. It is just so beautiful.

Hey everyone! We’re staying in Playa right now and planning a day trip to Tulum. We’ve heard the horror stories about $100 USD taxi rides for a 10-minute trip and the 'police coffee fund' stops for rental cars.
What’s the move for 2026?
We want to see the ruins and maybe Gran Cenote without coming home broke. Give me your best 'I wish I knew this before' tips!"

Cancun specifically
Hey guys, I’m wondering if you guys have any local / insider tips and tricks for grocery shopping.
Just going to soriana / chedraui / Walmart ends up being so expensive. Like it seems like it shouldn’t be that expensive .
I like to put some up front effort into this cause it can save a lot of money down the line.
Any tips/ tricks ?
E.g.
-bulk buy what you can in Costco ?(rice, olive oil etc..)
-Buy weekly fruits and veg at local markets ?(even for this, any tips and tricks )
-buy meat at a local butchers perhaps (not sure if it’s better priced than Costco)
(All random examples, they could be completely wrong)
Note: I’d definitely rather buy local if possible.
Thanks guys

I just received an email, the dates of arrival are correct, 21st March. What flags this email
Is fast track requirements are ‘ for all passengers including children’
But when you read down, it says you have to be over 18 ‘passengers must be over 18’
Thoughts?
Came from contact@quintanarooairports.net

I moved into a 1br place in playa del Carmen on 2/3 and paid security and first months rent prior to move in.
On the second day a cockroach infestation was noticed and this required almost 2 weeks of fumigations, cleanings and not being able to use the kitchen or leave food out during this time. I was even given a spare apartment for the last 2 nights which I did not end up sleeping in. When I asked my landlord to credit me for the 2 weeks (since the apt was not habitable) she said simply no and moved on. Even though we’re only talking about $6500 pesos in rent (I did not ask them to reimburse all my takeout meals, cleaning supplies, time off from work to Meet fumigator ñ, cleaners etc) it’s a matter of principle and I don’t want to pay a lot for a lawyer when all that I can reclaim is around 6500 pesos. Most foreign law firms are too expensive and I wonder what my rights are and if this will be too costly for my own good. Again, though, it’s the principal.
Does anyone know a lawyer in plays del Carmen who can help with sending a document or something like that on the cheap to apply pressure on my landlord?

There have been reports of some burning vehicles in Quintana Roo, although cleared quickly. Maybe BS, maybe true!? If we were headed to an all inclusive enclave I’d be thinking different but it’s a 3hr drive & ferry to get to Holbox. The other thing is that it’s a 10day trip, and the Govt is warning of things potentially “escalating quickly”. We have to hedge on things not getting worse or local cartels also wanting to flex a bit. What do you thing? Safe??

As title says my flight leaves 5am Monday arriving at Cancun airport 3:30 with a shuttle scheduled to all inclusive resort. My gut says to cancel. Should I still go or cancel? Worried about safety

We are at a playa de Carmen resort, considering renting a car and driving to Chichen Itza. Thoughts? Is it safe, are the roads OK? Thanks

Gracias y saludos comunidad

Looking for info on snorkelling. Is it better in Akumal? Or El Cielo? Staying in Puerto Morelos, but want to do a day trip to either El Cielo or Akumal for snorkelling. Really want to avoid being stuck in a huge group, but also wanna see some wildlife. Anyone have any recommendations? April 25,26,27,28,29!
