Image The New Kanto Elite 4 - Updated [OC]
This is my version of a new Kanto Elite 4, the goal was to have thematic teams without sacrificing a general type identity. This has been updated based off much appreciated feedback from this sub! Including more type diversity and order switchups.
The Fisher King: Pokemon caught via fishing rod. Changed Dragonair to Dragonite and made it the ace, with weaker movepool and only lv55 to show it has only recently evolved, and to be more fitting for only the 1st E4 ace. Gyarados now has Hydro Pump and is still highest level as it would have been his main until Dragonite evolved.
Celadon's Socialite: Pokemon that evolve using Stones. Leaned into the type diversity as suggested, she now has one of every Evolution Stone except Moon (the only one you can't buy at the Dept. Store..). Replaced Ninetales with Victreebel, which can take advantage of Sunny Day. She only has 2 fire types... but so did Flint. I love the idea of using game corner Pokemon, but I think that deserves its own trainer (maybe Champion?).
Mt Moon Maniac: Pokémon found in Mt. Moon. The Fossil Collector from the games finally got em both! Now the 3rd E4 member, removed Aerodactyl and replaced with with Parasect as a classic Mt. Moon Pokemon and to give some resistances. The two fossils which are actually found in Mt. Moon now share ace status.
Safari Benefactor: Pokemon found in the Safari Zone. The Warden finally retires after he caught his shiny Chansey.. Moved to last E4 member so nightmare Chansey is final E4 ace. Replaced Dodrio for Exeggutor, which is more iconically Safari Zone and adds type diversity.
Please let me know if you have any theme ideas for Johto and Hoenn! I'd like to do those next.
Edit: Thank you for the award! I don't have any IRL friends that play Pokemon so its awesome to interact with people who get where I'm coming from. Love this community!

Discussion Is Onix's weakness a huge mistake? How is Onix supposed to be?
This topic describes more a "What if" scenario. I know it will not change the past but still I think this community is a good place to share my thoughts about it. My focus here is on RGBY mechanic, because that's when Onix showed up and got unfairly treated as a crap.
It is common sense Onix's stats are laughably bad and inconsistent with its design. Some people argue Onix had to be a fodder due to its purpose as a "first boss" in Gen 1. I beg to differ. Onix's stats could have been higher, much better spread and still make it viable for a early boss.
Even avoiding grinding unnecessarily, a casual trainer can still earn Boulder Badge in RGB without breaking sweat if you choose Squirtle or Bulbasaur. The low HP/Special stats and Rock/Ground dual weakness make user's life easier than it should. That is not how a good 1st boss is well built. In my opinion, it is mildly disappointing Brock is just slightly better than other trainers around Pewter City, while other Gym Leaders are way ahead everyone around. And it only happens much due to Brock's signature Pkmn being so underwhelming.
Besides, the fact Onix is used TWICE by an E4 member makes me believe its stats were supposed to be different at some point of development or even in the final version. I wouldn't be surprised if some bug nerfed the rock snake badly in the process, just like Psychic's immunity to Ghost and Focus Energy issue back then.
So, how Onix's stats should have been and how much would it affect the gameplay? Let me give a wild guess.
| How it is? | x | How it should have been in my opinion? |
|---|
| HP | 35 | HP | 85 | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Attack | 45 | Attack | 85 | ||
| Defense | 160 | Defense | 120 | ||
| Sp. Att | 30 * | Sp. Att | 30 * | ||
| Sp. Def | 45 | Sp. Def | 45 | ||
| Speed | 70 | Speed | 95 | ||
| Total (Gen 1) | 340 | Total (Gen 1) | 415 | ||
| Total (Gen 2+) | 385 | Total (Gen 2+) | 460 |
In this way, Onix can match different roles, make its rare encounter rate paid off and still be sort of reasonable with its design and description. Let's go through each stat:
HP: There is no Pokemon taller than 20' (6m) whose HP is lower than 95, bar Onix's evolutionary line.) Huge beasts seem to imply high HP regardless of whether they are legendaries or not. That's why it seems too out of place the grounder snakes clash with this tendency too much. The only reason I don't rate it higher is due to the fact Steelix exists.
Attack: According to Pokedex, Onix is taller than 8,5', weighs heavier than 460 lb, lives underground effortlessly boring through the ground at high speed, shaking the earth during the process and creating big tunnels. It requires a massive strength. No way, Onix's Attack should have been lower than Bellsprout's one.
Defense: Onix's high defense is justified by the fact it absorbs many hard objects while it digs through the ground. The decrease serves just to counterbalance a little bit the HP boost for those who choose Charmander or Pikachu (in Yellow) as starters and have to resort to other means. It also keeps Rhydon and Golem as a better physical wallers, while Onix's style approaches more to hit first.
Speed: It is also described Onix burrows over 50 miles per hour, emphasizing its nice speed. This boost helps to diversify Onix niche from its slow comrades, Golem and Rhydon, a Rock/Ground not as hard-hitter but fast-hitter.
Special: Unlike other stats, nothing specifies a raise in both SpA or SpD. It is good to maintain a soft spot to be exploited.
At first glance, 415/460 BST seems exorbitant for a first boss. However, the lack of STAB attacks, low Special stats and Bide as a tutorial move still make Brock's Onix vulnerable enough for any starter trainer. Due to its dual type weakness, I've failed to figure out a better happy medium between a good challenge for Bulbasaur/Squirtle users and a feasible achievement for Charmander/Pikachu users. The whole improvement, however, may catch an underleveled special attacker off guard in case of spamming things like Bubble and Confusion improperly because Onix can unleash its energy before falling and turn the game around, reinforcing the importance of strategy as a good Wake-Up Boss/Warm-Up Boss should do as soon as possible.
When Onix returns in Elite 4, it becomes demanding enough to catch up with final starters tier, because it comes back with a proper moveset (Rock Slide/Earthquake or Dig/Explosion/other move) aligning with decent distribution stats (quick enough to attack first + powerful STAB attacks + OP move). Taking into account that Speed was specially crucial in Gen 1 due to critical hit mechanic, Onix outspeeds most of Pkmns at that point. It can hit Charizard with a threatening Rock Slide or blow up an Explosion for likes of Venusaur and Blastoise before they do anything, justifying its presence as a threat in late-game. In the end, Onix teaches another valuable lesson for the trainers about the importance of building a proper moveset in a battle.
Speaking of moveset, there are some slightly changes that could have been made in Gen 1.
| How it is | x | How it should have been in my opinion |
|---|
| 1 | Tackle | Normal | 35 | 95% | 1 | Tackle | Normal | 35 | 95% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Screech | Normal | - | 85% | 1 | Screech | Normal | - | |
| 15 | Bind | Normal | 15 | 75% | 15 | Bind | Normal | 15 | |
| 19 | Rock Throw | Rock | 50 | 65% | 19 | Rock Throw | Rock | 50 | |
| 25 | Rage | Normal | 20 | 100% | 25 | Slam | Normal | 80 | |
| 33 | Slam | Normal | 80 | 75% | 33 | Dig | Ground | 100 | |
| 43 | Harden | Normal | - | - | 37 | Harden | Normal | - | |
| 47 | Earthquake | Ground | 100 |
As far as it can be seen, this change lies more on Onix's nature than just turn it better for no reason. I understand Rage explains Onix's aggressive behaviour to such point to attack humans and other creatures around when it is in pain. However, I've missed perhaps the most known Onix's feature in its natural moveset: the ability to bore through the ground. It does not make any sense for me it can just be learnt via TM until Gen 5. So, I've decided to swap from Rage to Dig. However, as Dig was as powerful as Earthquake in RBY, Slam was put to be learnt earlier to scale up its natural moveset better. Dig would be designed to get naturally in time, when the trainer has to deal with many Poison and Electric types in Silph Co. or to face up Koga and Blaine. Harden coming so later seems a weird choice, but it reflects Onix's habit to absorb many hard objects when it digs through the ground. So, it makes sense Harden coming after Dig. Lastly, Earthquake is justified due to Onix's ability to cause an earth tremor.
Well... I would like to read your opinions. Do you agree with these changes? How much do you think it would affect the gameplay? Would it make the game better overall? Share your thoughts here...

Info FYI: Breeding Items give Breeding Priority.
I couldn't find this info anywhere on the web, actually but was getting puzzling results with my Ditto + random poke breeding picnics, so I did a little investagion. I hope this information helps someone trying to use Ditto for breeding purposes.
TL;DR: Breeding items give breeding priority.
To explain, I'll use a simple team as an example. Say your team has: Magikarp, Lechonk, Flamigo, Dreepy, and Ditto.
+ If they're all without any items, they will all randomly breed with Ditto.
+ If you give Magikarp an item for breeding, like Everstone, then Magikarp gains priority in breeding. Now, all your eggs will yield Magikarp-only, since Magikarp can breed with Ditto.
+ If you swap the Everstone to Ditto, Ditto gains priority for breeding. Once again, your eggs can yield any poke in your team since they all can breed with Ditto.
+ Now, if Ditto holds an Everstone, and you give Magikarp a Destiny Knot, they both have increased breeding priority, so all your eggs once again will yield Magikarp-only.
+ Let's say you build on this premise and give Flamigo a Destiny Knot too. Now, Flamigo, Magikarp, and Ditto have increased breeding priority. But since Magikarp and Flamigo aren't egg-compatible, they both will breed with Ditto. You get all Magikarp and Flamigo eggs only.
+ Imagine you continue, and you add a Gyarados to this party of Pokes. It is the opposite gender to your Magikarp. Since Gyarados is holding no item for breeding, it actually wont breed with the Magikarp. You still get just Magikarp and Flamigo eggs, and they both will only breed with the Ditto.
+ Say you remove the Everstone from Ditto now and pass it to the Gyarados instead. Now, the pokemon in your party that are holding breeding items are: Magikarp, Gyarados, and Flamigo. In this event, Magikarp will only breed with Gyarados and Flamigo will only breed with Ditto. The Ditto will never breed with the Magikarp or Gyarados.
+ Once any poke in that party holds a breeding item, the others wont breed with Ditto until either: they get an item, you remove the item from the non-Ditto, or until you only let Ditto hold an item.

Discussion The best starters for in-game playthroughs.
With so much misinformation out there, figure I should at least try to do my part in trying to dispel at least some of it. Given that there seems to be a kind of warped idea of what makes a starter good in a playthrough. And thus, to get this discussion going, here’s my take on which starters are the best in their regions.
Squirtle is the best Kanto starter due to it starting strong and pretty much never really falling off. It has excellent coverage via its move pool. It gets Bite and Mega Punch/Kick before Misty, Dig and Body Slam before Surge, Ice Beam before Erika, and Surf before Koga. For any game set in Kanto, Ice Beam and Surf are Elite Four tier moves that you can have Squirtle rock the moment you get them. It wrecks Brock, walls Misty, Digs Surge, Ice Beams Erika, Digs Koga, Body Slams Sabrina, and Surfs Blaine and Giovanni. He also basically walls Lorelei, hits Bruno in the Special Defense where it hurts, brute forces Agatha, Ice Beams Lance, and has the best performance against the rival.
Now, for those of you who think the title should belong to Bulbasaur, let me remind you that it’s not very consistent, and in fact relies on type matchups, stall tactics, and brute force just to get by. It’s at a defensive disadvantage against Sabrina’s Psychics, Blaine’s Fire types, and Lorelei’s Ice moves, and an offensive disadvantage against Agatha’s Poison types (it can brute force Koga and Erika, but that can only get you so far), and is at an overall disadvantage against your rival in general. Long story short, what it has in Kanto just can’t measure up against Squirtle. And as for Charmander, it actually performs better than you think. Type matchups don’t really matter all too much in Kanto, and Charmander does get access to much of the tools it needs for a solid performance throughout the game, making it better than Bulbasaur, but never gets anything that’s effective against Dragon or even Water Pokémon. That, combined with Water weakness, prevents Charmander from being as good as Squirtle.
Totodile, much like how Squirtle is for Kanto, is the best starter for Johto. Sure, it learns primarily Special moves during a time where it was typing that determined whether a move was Physical or Special it also learns Rage, which is pretty much its Bread and Butter move. Every time Totodile gets hit after using Rage, the power of Rage increases. Giving the move staying power for a while at least until stronger Pokémon show up. This pretty much leads to the first 3 Gyms falling pretty easily. By Morty, you should already have Bite, which is super effective. And then, you get Surf and Ice Punch, which can be used to brute force Chuck, then Dig, which helps against Jasmine’s Steel types. Pryce depends on your strategy, and can go either way. But Feraligatr by Clair comes back with a vengeance with Ice Punch. Then, with the Elite Four, Ice Punch and Bite destroys Will, Earthquake, Surf, and Ice Punch all wreck Koga, Bruno’s Hitmonchan is the only risk Feraligatr faces, and Karen is taken out with Ice, Water, and Ground, and then Lance is utterly dominated by Feraligatr. And then, going into Kanto, it has much of the same advantages Squirtle has there, even with the Gym Leaders being stronger here than when you were controlling Red. It Surfs and Earthquakes Brock, walls Misty, Earthquakes Surge, Ice Punches Erika even with defensive disadvantage, Surfs, Earthquakes, and Ice Punches Janine, Bites Sabrina, and Surfs and Earthquakes Blaine (with Magmar posing the biggest threat with Thunder Punch). Blue poses the hardest challenge out of all of them, but even then, it brute forces Gyarados, Ice Punches Pidgeot, Bites Alalakazam, can Bite or Ice Punch Exeggutor (even though it poses the biggest threat), and Surfs Arcanine and Rhydon. And for Red, it Bites Espeon, Earthquakes Pikachu, Ice Punches Venusaur, Surfs Charizard, and brute forces Blastoise and Snorlax. However, despite these advantages, Red’s not the kind to go down easily. You could technically make an argument for the Red Gyarados being better, but that Pokémon doesn’t come in until you reach the Lake of Rage, and is otherwise pretty much meant to be a substitute for if you don’t choose Totodile at all.
For those of you who think that it’s Cyndaquil, just that it has its own share of disadvantages in Johto, even though it’s better in Johto than Bulbasaur is in Kanto. Falkner has Mud Slap, which is Super Effective against Cyndaquil. Bugsy is easily beaten. It falls to Whitney’s Rollout, but otherwise manages to fairly brute force Whitney. And it can brute force Morty, and later Chuck. Then wrecks Jasmine’s steel types, manages to hold its own against Pryce, but fails to do anything to Claire’s dragons. And going into the Elite Four, it devastates both Will and Koga, but has to resort to brute forcing Bruno and Karen. And with Lance, Thunder Punch gives it an edge on Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Charizard, and lets it brute force the Dragonites. But with Kanto, it fares just as well there as Charizard did when you were playing as Red. Arguably less so considering that the Kanto Gym Leaders are stronger now than back then. Meaning, don’t expect it to hold up against Misty, and even Brock poses a threat due to actually having Rock and Ground moves this time around. But other than that, it Earthquakes Surge, wrecks Erika and Janine, brute forces Sabrina, and Earthquakes Blaine. For Blue, Typhlosion Thunder Punches Gyarados and Pidgeot, wrecks Exeggutor, brute forces Alakazam, and Earthquakes Arcanine and Rhydon. However, it’s worth pointing out that Gyarados and Rhydon poses the biggest threats. And for Red, it Earthquakes Pikachu, Thunder Punches Charizard and Blastoise, wrecks Venusaur, and brute forces Snorlax and Espeon. But again, Red won’t go down easily. At any rate, an overall worse performance than Totodile, but a solid choice nonetheless. Despite this, a case can be made here that Magmar is a better Fire type than Typhlosion in Johto, arguably a stronger case than the Red Gyarados being better than Totodile. Their stats are roughly comparable, with having tied Sp. Def, Magmar having higher Atk, and Typhlosion having higher everything else. But Magmar is putting out Typhlosion type performances, running both Thunder Punch AND STAB Fires Punch, when Typhlosion is still a Quilava, learns Flamethrower at an earlier level than Typhlosion (41, compared to Typhlosion’s 60), and can even learn Psychic. Which is worth pointing out. Which kind of makes up for the lack of availability in comparison. Make what decisions with that how you want.
However, everything that I said about Totodile and Cyndaquil to this point only really applies to Gen 2. With Gen 4, Totodile gets access to a wider move pool and benefits from the then-new Physical/Special split with much of its learn set now more optimized to run off its higher Atk stat. Waterfall is better on it than Surf for this very reason. And Ice Fang and the now Physical Crunch are solid options to run alongside Rage, Earthquake, and Waterfall. But why do I then consider Cyndaquil to be better than Totodile in Gen 4 but not in Gen 2? Well here’s is reason: Totodile and Cyndaquil are now both closer in terms of worth in Gen 4 as opposed to Gen 2. Cyndaquil now has earlier access to Flamethrower (level 42 as Typhlosion), and the Fire Blast access even further bolsters its offensive capabilities with the Choice Specs considered. Both it and Magmar now need a Move Tutor to learn Thunder Punch, which, unfortunately, is locked behind the Battle Frontier. However, Typhlosion now has access to Solarbeam, and could use the Sunny Day and Solar Beam combo, opening offensive opportunities against Brock and Misty. Magmar, unfortunately , doesn’t have that same access, so it’s overall worse than Cyndaquil in Gen 4 as opposed to Gen 2. While technically, Totodile is still better than Cyndaquil, much of the reason why I at least find it better to go with Cyndaquil for Gen 4 is not just because it’s the best Fire type in Johto in Gen 4, but also because of Totodile’s redundancy and overlap with Gyarados, which you can get as high as a Level 50 or so Magikarp on the way to the Lake of Rage, which is in turn better than the Red Gyarados. A Level 50 Pokémon at a point where the upcoming Gym Leaders will have Pokémon with levels in the 30’s? Yes please. Just feed it a Rare Candy as soon as you catch it. Also, keep in mind that the Kanto Gym Leaders and Red have slightly different Pokémon, such as a Thunder Punch Machamp replacing Alakazam on Blue’s Team, and Lapras replacing Espeon on Red’s team. It’s your call, either way.
For Hoenn, I don’t need to explain it. It’s Mudkip. An extremely effective weakness to Grass in a game with no Grass types in major Pokémon battles except for about 4 instances, wrecks the majority of the major battles. Need I say more?
For Sinnoh, I don’t feel the need to explain, either. It’s Chimchar. Close Combat at Level 41, mixed attacker, great coverage, outspeeds almost everything in the game (even its two fellow Sinnoh stsrters), doesn’t rely on type matchups to get things done. Moving on.
For Unova, the best starter is actually Oshawott. Though it is close between it and Tepig. Simply put, however, there’s really not many good Water Pokémon in Unova, you can only get a Water Pokémon that’s just as good as Oshawott is at best if you choose Snivy, and there’s a Gen 2 Cyndaquil vs Magmar situation going on with Tepig and Darumaka with Tepig having very little in terms of good STAB moves without drawbacks as the game progresses, and that Darumaka has more advantages including having better bulk and being able to brute force Drayden/Iris with help from Belly Drum.
For Kalos, the best starter duo is actually Froakie and Charmander. Not Fennekin and Bulbasaur, like you might be thinking. But before I go into why, I might as well state how Fennekin and Bulbasaur do.
Fennekin is super effective against Viola sans Surskit and the occasional Powder from Vivillon, gets wrecked by Grant, has super effective damage but no STAB against Korrina, and wrecks Ramos. It’s also good against Clemont’s Magneton and Dry Skin Heliolisk, and Valerie’s Steel type Mawile. It resists Olympia’s Psychics except for the Power Gem Slowking and Shadow Ball Meowstic, and wrecks Wulfric. For the Elite Four, it resists Malva save for Chandelure, which hits it for Super Effective STAB Ghost damage, wrecks Wikstrom but you have to watch out for the Shadow Claw Aegislash, and has coverage against 2 of Diantha’s Pokémon. Overall, a very solid sweeper. But it’s a pure Special Attacker, as one would expect for a Pokémon clearly meant to be a Black Mage. And its move pool actually hurts it a bit. Meaning that Ember will be out-damaging Flame Charge, despite the latter being a stronger move on BP alone, and the speed boost Flame Charge gives is redundant because Fennekin is fast enough already. It doesn’t learn Mystical Fire, which just has 65 BP, until evolving into Delphox, and Flamethrower doesn’t come until Level 42.
As for Bulbasaur, he clearly got a noticable buff in Kalos compared to Kanto, where he’s actually the worst starter there. Its Poison typing now gives it resistance to Fairy type attacks AND STAB super effective damage to Fairy type Pokémon. But defensively, it’s weak to Fire, Flying, Ice, and Psychic. HOWEVER, the Thick Fat ability it gets upon Mega Evolution effectively cancels out the Fire and Ice weaknesses it has. In addition, it gets Leech Seed immediately, and Sleep Powder at Level 13. Giving it stopping power to take out at least one Pokémon in every major battle. It learns Venoshock from the TM near Parfum Palace. Becomes Venusaur at Level 32 and learns Petal Dance immediately afterwards. And also can pick up Energy Ball and Sludge Bomb. For the major battles, it is super effective against Grant’s Amaura, which knows Aurora Beam, and hits Tyrunt neutrally. It’s for the most part neutral against Korrina’s Fighting types, but her Hawlucha, which is resistant to Grass, knows Flying Press. For Ramos, while Venusaur takes a quarter damage from Grass type attacks, Jumpluff knows Acrobatics, and Weepinbell is neutral to Poison moves. For Clemont, Emolga has STAB Aerial Ace, and Magneton requires Bulldoze to remove effectively, and Bulldoze could let Venusaur solo. For Valerie, Venoshock takes care of her fairies except Mawile. Forget about having it take down Olympia due to the Psychic weakness. (Her Sygiliph also has Air Slash.) But with Thick Fat, it basically brute forces Wulfric, netting an easy KO against Abomasnow. For the Elite Four, it can brute force or even solo Malva with Earthquake, it wins against Siebold’s Barbaracle and Clawitzer, but faces a risk from Starmie who can hit hard with Psychic and set up defensive support against Venusaur with Light Screen. For Wikstrom, Probopass can tank an extremely effective Earthquake with Sturdy, and Scizor is hit neutrally by Earthquake. It brute forces Drasna, whose Dragalge is hit by a super effective Earthquake, but you have to watch out for the Air Slash Noivern. And for Diantha, it’s only the Tyrantrum that falls to a super effective Earthquake; Aurorus, who doesn’t like taking Grass moves, is setting up defensive support, Hawlucha, Goodra, and Gourgeist are neutrally hit, and Gardevoir hits super effectively with STAB Psychic while tanking super effective STAB Poison Special moves. It’s not very often that Venusaur is using STAB Grass moves, or Poison moves for that matter. And its stats are just that good.
So then, what is it that makes Froakie better? Well, just like Fennekin, it has perfect availability. Greninja’s high base Speed means it’s always going first, and like Infernape before it, it’s a mixed attacker. For Viola, it has STAB Bubble, and resists Surskit. Like Charmander against Brock, it has the worst offensive performance of all the starters against Viola, but still manages to pull through, especially when none of its moves are getting resisted. After Viola, Froakie soon gets Water Pulse, and evolves to Frogadier shortly after. 60 BP, 90 with STAB, on a Frogadier. Let that sink in. And if that weren’t enough, Rock Smash lets it sweep Grant, who gives you Rock Tomb, and you’ll pick up Aerial Ace not long after. It’s sweeping Korrina, after whom that Water Pulse can be upgraded to the 90 BP, 135 with STAB, Surf. For Ramos, it might face risk from the Grass Pokémon, but it still has Aerial Ace, or the even better Acrobatics, to hit hard with before it’s even attacked. It evolves to Greninja, and gets the Dig TM before you face Clemont. For Valerie, it falls easily to her fairies, but not before taking about one or two fairies down with it with Surf. Then it solos Olympia, and brute forces Wulfric, who is pretty bad. For the Elite Four, Malva is sweeped, Siebold’s wrecked by Grass Knot, Rock Tomb handles Gyarados, and STAB Dark Pulse handles Starmie. For Wikstrom, Klefki has a Ground weakness, Probopass has a Water weakness, Aegislash has a Dark weakness, though Aegislash has Sacred Sword, Probopass has Discharge, and Scizor has X-Scissor. Drasna is clean swept by Ice Beam. And for Diantha, Hawlucha, Tyrantrum, Goodra, all fall to Ice Beam, Aurorus falls to STAB Surf, Gourgeist falls to STAB Dark Pulse, leaving Gardevoir as the only real threat. He’s also good against Lysandre’s Honchkrow, Pyroar, and Mega Gyarados, it’s good against Calem/Serena and his/her Meowstic, Altaria, Absol, and Chesnaught. It’s just so good, and even without a Mega Evolution at this point.
As for Charmander. As a Charizard, it gets solid stats, with an inclination towards Special attacks before Mega Evolution. Upon Mega Evolution, depending on what Charizardite it’s holding, it can become either a menacing mixed attacker, or a Special, Drought-toting nuke. It learns Dragon Rage as soon as it evolves to Charmeleon, and both it and Rock Smash help it against Grant. Aerial Ace helps it against Korrina. And when it finally evolves to Charizard is where things branch off depending on the version of the game. However, each of the benefits in the different versions both basically amount to the same results. As Mega Charizard Y, as mentioned earlier, it gets Drought and a whopping 159 Special Attack. While as Mega Charizard X, it swaps the Flying type for a Dragon type and gets 130 Physical AND Special Attack, and Tough Claws, which boosts contact-based moves, the vast majority of which are Physical moves, by 1/3. To put this in perspective, for Mega Charizard X, Dragon Claw + STAB + Tough Claws comes to about 156 damage before the 130 Atk is factored in. While with Mega Charizard Y, Flamethrower + STAB + Drought comes out to about 195 before the 159 Sp. Atk is factored in. OOF! And to top it off, Drought pretty much neutralizes Water damage. At any rate, For Clemont, you go in with Tough Claws Dig or just a brute force Flame Burst, netting the W. Valerie is brute forced, regardless of Charizard’s Mega. Olympia is brute forced, though Slowking is packing Power Gem, meaning you have to be careful there. Wulfric is bodied by Charizard without Mega Evolution. Malva also benefits from Drought, but that hardly matters when Charizard is packing Dig/Earthquake. Siebold is beaten by Mega Charizard X’s brute force, and Mega Charizard Y’s Solarbeam. Wikstrom is bodied, either way. And Drasna falls to Dragon Claw or just plain brute force. As for Diantha, Air Slash/Aerial Ace beats Hawlucha, Dig/Earthquake beats her fossils, Dragon Claw on Goodra, Gourgeist gets wrecked, but again, Gardevoir is the only real threat, though you can run Steel Wing for coverage. And, being honest, you’re kind of incentivized to choose Charmander anyways. Especially since the Charizardite has two version-exclusive variants. Still, XY is an easy game. So…
For Alola, it’s Popplio. And it’s not as close as you think. It only loses to 3 Pokémon, total, in major battles in its entire screentime, namely Vikavlolt, Laurantis, and Kahili’s Crobat. It beats half the enemy Pokémon in the game while only losing to about a tenth. And its moveset is excellent. I think that’s a good enough summary to explain why Popplio is so good.
And for Galar, it’s Scorbunny. Very few good type matchups, but more than made up for with stats and moveset. Plus the other two have questionable choices going on with their move sets. Like seriously. Grookey is stuck with Razor Leaf until it becomes Rillaboom, after which it gets Wood Hammer, which does recoil damage. And Intellion is a case of “bro, just use Surf”.
And for Paldea, it’s Fuecoco. Torch Song is like a Fire-based Charge Beam on steroids. It wrecks 6 of the 8 Gym Leaders. It’s consistent through the Elite Four. And it’s able to solo the Champion. Though I will give a shout-out to Sprigatito for being the first Grass starter to be considered the “middle of the road starter” WITHOUT tying with the Water starter of the region. (Sorry to break it to you, but at no point was the Grass starter ever the best starter for a region. With some exceptions, they tended to be the worst starter.)
Feel free to discuss. If you want to take a crack at this, or if you want to rank them under a different criteria, feel free to download the blank.

If you lose, Lusamine unmerges and all of you get kicked out of Ultra Space
Nanu suddenly appeared and looks like he was watching us since we entered Ultra Space. He mentions that the final trial is to fight against 4 kahunas in a row, but since the Alola league is being built, you need to fight the Elite 4 at MOUNT LANAKILA (forgot the spelling)
Road to champion - MOUNT LANAKILA
Gladion appears at the entrance and thanks you for everything.

By this point the main story is over.
Ultra Beast postgame
Source is leaked in-game text file dump.
So in the main story, only UB-01 is directly involved. An Ultra Wormhole was opened, allowing other UBs to enter Poke world.
In post game, Looker meets with you and Kukui to hunt down UBs together. And apparently Anabel, one of the Frontier Brains, is a Faller alien from another world , a human who comes from Ultra Wormhole, brought in to help with investigating UBs. They form the UB Taskforce.
Apparently you guys can't take it that she's an alien so here's the text
Faller...That is what the International Police calls them. Humans who appear from an Ultra Wormhole... and those who are bathed in a great deal of the energy that pours out from them. She had come through a wormhole. She was from another world. And she was put on our team to help draw the UB to us...
okay maybe she came from the no-mega r/s/e universe?
She had lost most of her memories, but four things she could tell us. That her name was Anabel... That she came from the Hoenn region... That she had protected some tower there... And that she was a powerful Trainer...
The UBs didn't come to the world by choice. So they go where a wormhole could appear in hopes of returning home. Anabel has strong Ultra Wormhole energy surrounding her, therefore she acts as a UB bait in the taskforce.
Wicke also joins the team. Wicke can be found at Aether Paradise, while Looker seems to be moving from island to island as UB story progresses. And you catch UBs using Beast Ball, secretly created by Aether Foundation, mentioned as very expensive to buy.
During UB-05 event, Anabel is hurt. Looker mentioned that you are actually a Faller too since you passed through a Wormhole during Lusamine event. You become the bait for UB-05, the final UB in the arc.
Also, you can get UB backgrounds once you catch them and talk to Wicke. Only UB-02 to UB-05 is involved in this arc. Necrozma seems to be an event Pokemon. Might not be UB.
NECROZMA IS CATCHABLE AFTER YOU COMPLETE UB TASKFORCE MISSIONS
General data
Ultra Beasts are life-forms from another world. If you try to throw a regular Poké Ball at one, the ball will have a difficult time recognizing the creature as a Pokémon, and so the capturing function will be significantly impaired. But these special balls should allow you to capture beasts quite normally. They could be considered the foundation’s negative assets, but I hope they will help you.
The UBs surround themselves with an aura called the Beast Boost. The truth of this aura is that it is the energy that flows within the Ultra Wormhole. When the UBs pass through the Ultra Wormhole, they are bathed in a great deal of this energy and likely store it within their bodies.
There are also Pokémon on our planet that possess this same kind of energy. I think you know what I mean. The so-called Totem Pokémon that you faced in your trials. This is because the energy pours down upon our planet when the holes open.
UB-01. Code name: “Symbiont.” Properly known as Nihilego. There have been sightings reported of this beast in Alola’s past. Its most distinctive feature is its parasitic capability. When Nihilego latches on to a host, it does not manipulate its actions directly. Rather it awakens the host’s own capabilities and boosts them to an extreme extent in order to protect itself. It injects the host with a sort of neurotoxin to achieve this effect. This neurotoxin of Nihilego’s is incredibly stimulating and inspires feelings of extreme excitement and a lack of inhibition in its host. In other words, anything or anyone that a Nihilego latches on to will have its native skills forcibly activated to their fullest extent and will then act as it naturally desires to.
UB-02. Code name: “Absorption.” Properly known as Buzzwole. This UB was sighted for the first time following the incidents at Aether Foundation. Its most distinctive feature is its skill to strengthen itself. Buzzwole is able to absorb energy and then achieve a chemical reaction between the energy it has absorbed and its own body fluids. As a result, Buzzwole’s body swells to an almost explosive extent. Its muscles bulge and are so thick and dense that they are stronger even than steel. Both its Attack and Defense experience a clear leap in power. It also displays a habit of striking a pose each time that it takes any sort of action... It is thought this might serve as a method of communication, but it is not well understood.
UB-02. Code name: “Beauty.” Properly known as Pheromosa. This UB was sighted for the first time following the incidents at Aether Foundation. This UB can reach speeds exceeding 120 mph in just an instant. This speed is greater than any other living creature that has been discovered to date. But its most distinctive features may in fact be its beauty and its powerful pheromones. Most any creature that squares off against a Pheromosa becomes confused, as if struck by the beast’s beauty, and loses the will to fight. It is still a subject of research, but it’s thought that Pheromosa may possess some sort of organ able to produce a pheromonal substance previously unknown to science.
UB-03. Code name: “Lighting.” Properly known as Xurkitree. This UB was sighted for the first time following the incidents at Aether Foundation. Its most distinctive feature is an organ that can generate power. This UB’s bodily makeup is highly reminiscent of electric wiring, thus enabling it to conduct electricity with great efficiency. It can discharge as much as a million volts of power at a time. When it begins to run out of power, it stabs its legs and tail into the soil, entering a treelike state as it absorbs electricity from the ground.
UB-04. Code name: “Blade.” Properly known as Kartana. This UB was sighted for the first time following the incidents at Aether Foundation. Its most distinctive feature is its thin and razor- sharp body, of which every edge has as cruel a cutting edge as any well-honed blade. The edges on its arms are particularly in a class of their own. Any opponent who tries to attack it will be cut down with a single strike of its “blades.” Its thin body also allows it to evade attacks by dancing lightly out of the way. This is a very dangerous creature, considering its excellent offensive and defensive capabilities, but due to the nature of its body, it is also highly vulnerable to fire and moisture.
UB-04. Code name: “Blaster.” Properly known as Celesteela. This UB was sighted for the first time following the incidents at Aether Foundation. Its most distinctive feature is the energy that it stores within itself, a flammable gas that it can shoot from its two huge arms. This is mostly used to propel itself in flight and for battle, but it is thought to have sufficient power and lift to even fly into space. Its bodily construction closely resembles that of a plant, and it absorbs nutrients from the soil.'
note: it is unconfirmed which versions blade and blaster will be in. but according to text dump blade is mentioned first.
UB-05. Code name: “Glutton.” Properly known as Guzzlord. This UB has been sighted in the Alola region in the past as well, according to our reports. It seems it was targeted by the International Police in a top-secret mission at that time. Its most distinctive feature is its limitless appetite. It feeds without pause every moment that it is awake. It uses the two large tongues that protrude from its mouth to catch and devour everything in its path, be it organic or inorganic matter. And while it eats such an inordinate amount, Guzzlord excreta has never been discovered. It is thought that it might fully convert the things that it eats into energy for it to use.
Hm? What is this Pokédex data, [VAR TRNAME(0000)]? ...Necrozma. It’s black, yet it’s refracting light... But we haven’t had any word from HQ about such a UB. It must be simply a rare Pokémon. Still, it’s quite remarkable, though!
Battle Tree
Grimsley, his dialogue implies he has retired from E4.
Anabel, in case you skip to here, read Ultra Beast postgame section to know her role in the game
You can challenge these battle tree trainers
Red (Pikachu, Lapras, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise)
Blue (Alakazam, Machamp, Aerodactyl, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Gyarados)
Dexio (Espeon, Raichu, Slowking, Metagross, Alakazam)
Anabel (Alakazam, Weavile, Mismagius, Salamence, Snorlax)
Uncertain time and location/misc.
Cosmog is encountered a lot of times.
You can only catch Lunala/Solgaleo. It will give a lvl5 cosmog post game for you to raise.
Colress is encountered on a route, mentioned being a scientist with theme of "bringing out pokemon potentials". Gives you TM Flame Charge.
There's a room where you can turn your zygarde cells into zygarde 10/50 depending on how many cells/cores you have
Tapus can be fought after you beat E4.
There's a Nugget bridge where you fight five people just like in Cerulean city. One guy mentions Giovanni and Team rocket at the end.
Gladion gives you Type-Null post game. Type:Null background story: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/5bvuiv/typenull_background_story/
Gladion becomes the president of Aether Foundation in postgame
Gladion's dad is the person who discovered UB. He disappeared during an experiment to connect to Ultra Wormhole, leaving behind a weakened Cosmog and research on Nihilego. Gladion thinks Lusamine was just trying to find him through Ultra Wormhole.
Bill the PC guy was mentioned to fuse with Pokemon just like Lusamine and Nihilego rofl
Lillie travels to Kanto to search for Bill's teleporter and Cell Seperation system in an attempt to remove all Nihilego's poison from her mom.
Lillie keeps a diary with a front lock. A murkrow will peck it open for you and you can read it rofl.
Lillie has romantic feelings towards you. Most of the romantic dialogues show up after you clear Lusamine story.
This Mohn guy is actually a professor who published theories on Ultra Wormholes. It covers entries on Palkia, Giratina and Bronzong.
Also this Mohn guy could be Gladion and Lillies' father ; Lusamine's husband - https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/5bzodz/that_mohn_guy_who_manages_poke_pelago/
Defending champion status. When you beat E4 postgame, random people will challenge you instead of just Kukui like past game. https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/5c2l25/defending_our_pokemon_league_title_details/

Discussion Wanna complete B2W2? ULTIMATE To-Do List of B2W2!!
Introduction
You are playing Black 2 or White 2 and you are at a point.. what is there to do.. I think I did everything there is to this game. Say no more, with this list everyone will have new things to explore and complete in the best sequels of core Pokémon games; Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2.
I am a true fan of Pokémon and a completionist at heart. I personally completed this list this week and have over 999:59 hours in the game. Of course I had to pull of some save-file editing to complete, for example not all the Medals can be obtained without some .exe trickery (safe file editing tool I used BW-tool), and here more info to get Wi-Fi on your DS. If you are looking for a decent Walkthrough Guide, click on that. No further blah blah, here is the list:
Most recent edit: March 4th 2025
Reminders while playing Storyline
This list is built for when you become the Champion, though many things can be done before you walk through the Hall of Fame. If you read this before you defeated the champ of Unova; it will be easier to complete the big list if you do the following things along playing the storyline:

Theory about why Pokémon Sun and Moon might be revealed as the next games tomorrow!
Just let me blow EVERYONE'S mind here on what Pokémon Sun and Moon could be:
- Pokémon X&Y have a LOT of similarities to Gen1 (Santalune Forest's layout is basically a copy of Viridian Forest, you get the 3 Kanto starters, you can catch one of the Kanto Legendary birds , Mewtwo catchable in a cave, Lapras so you can use surf, an evil team that in the beginning reminds you of Team Rocket, the spinning tiles and the need for an elevator key in the evil team's hideout, etc...) + with Zinnia's theory in ORAS about alternate dimensions, it's been pretty much confirmed that all games previous to X&Y take place in a different dimension. But the latter is not the point, my point is - X&Y are the RED&BLUE of the new dimension, the first games introducing Mega-evolution and the Ultimate weapon. The Gen1 of the new generation of Pokémon. Remember that.
Now, everyone's saying Pokémon Z's next, and I've been thinking about this for a long time now: what if Game Freak decides to not make gen 6.5, but rather a Gen 7 with the possibility to return to Kalos (much like Gen 2 made it so you could revisit Gen 1)? We haven't had this pattern yet.
What do I have to back up that theory? Two things: the titles Pokémon SUN and MOON, and the brief info about the next Pokémon movie with Magearna. People often describe the SUN as GOLD, and the MOON as SILVER. Pokémon Sun and Moon are even coloured Gold and Silver! Reminds you of GEN 2 doesn't it? But that's not all. In the next movie, the evil guy is after Magearna's SOUL HEART. Sounds familiar again doesn't it? Indeed, it should remind you of the remakes of GEN 2 - HEARTGOLD and SOULSILVER. Lastly, some people have been saying that Lysandre died after the Ultimate weapon landed it's attack on his lab. Pokémon is played by a lot of children these days, and since death has become tabboo, I'd say: Nope, I'm 100% sure he's still alive, and he might return in the next games, but this time he's after ZYGARDE, like in the XY&Z anime. Remember, he would not be the only one to go under hiding from society, there's another one isn't there? That's right, Team Rocket's Giovanni also disappeared after Red beat him, and it turns out in HGSS that he was about to rejoin Team Rocket again. The Boss of an evil organization returning in the next games (GEN1 - GEN2) as well as everything I said before. There's more stuff though :Train Station in Lumiose City might connect Kalos with the new region (much like Kanto was connected to Johto), Couriway station still hasn't been used in X&Y (might also link to the new region, or even the Battle Frontier), Strange Souvenir and the backpacker who said we'll be able to see his region in due time and that we should keep the souvenir for when that time comes), and much more!!
Long story short, Pokémon SUN and MOON might be revealed tomorrow as the NEXT GEN games (or Gen 6.5, since we still have those two slots from the data mining), and the games might include the Kalos region as post game content with Lysandre trying to get his hands on ZYGARDE! Also, watch the VERY FIRST MEGA EVOLUTION SPECIAL, in the intro you can see a Mega Abomasnow versus a Mega Gyarados, and if you look closely, you'll notice the trainers are Wulfric (Kalos 8th Gym Leader) and Lysandre. So perhaps in Sun and Moon, the Kalos Gym Leaders will be able to use Mega evolution? I am... genuinly hyped for the next games!!!
EDIT: HOLY F*CKING SHIT!!!! Now that I think of it, there's the SUNDIAL in Anistar City... WASN'T THERE ALSO AN NPC THAT MENTIONED THE LUNARDIAL OR MOONDIAL IN ANOTHER REGION?!!! MIND BLOWN!!!! Also, Serebii Update: https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/702946312107532292
And check out my preview of how a potential Battle theme might sound like in these new games! My YT name is ThePokéMixr92 :)

Image Part 3 of first time playing Gen 6
Mega evolution genuinely feels underwhelming in this game. The pokemon that can mega evolve in my team are Hanagaki the Venusaur and Lee the Lucario. Who most of the time don't need it. The only reason I use it is if Lee needs an extra boost to her closecombat to sweep the entire team.
Hanzo the Greninja and Balista the Golurk haven't learnt any powerful dark or ghost type moves aside from shadow punch which is disappointing but manageable with spell tag on Golurk + iron fist.
Nymeria has finally caught up with the team at lvl 55 who was struggling till now because she gained two levels in a battle before evolving making her miss out on psychic attack till much later on. With dazzling gleam and psychic, she pretty much swept the entirety of team flare on her own aside from Lysander's Gyarados and Pyroar.
Hart the Talonflame has unfortunately little to no action since the rest of his teammates were struggling to keep up with him after Ramos' gym. Hopefully now that the team is roughly on the same level, i can bring him out for fights a lot more.
Remaining objectives: 8th gym badge, victory road, Elite 4 and Champion.
P.s. Somehow my in game avatar ended up looking like my ex 😂

Discussion My ideas for Megas aces for the new Indigo League
If there was a new game that takes place in Kanto and Johto + The Sevii Islands and timeline wise, take solace after Z-A. Basically, it's been over a decade after the events of HGSS.
Of course, the Indigo League has changed quite a bit with some people retiring or moving and some newcomers coming in.
Mega Evolution has also been officially implemented in the league. You start in Kanto first and then after fighting 8 gyms, you can move to Johto to beat the rest.
Here are the gyms and their Mega aces:
Pewter City - Rock - Mega Aerodactyl (Don't want to overlap with Jasmine's Steelix)
Cerulean City - Water - Mega Starmie or Gyarados
Saffron City - Fairy - Mega Clefable (Sabrina retired and moved to Unova to pursue a movie career)
Vermilion City - Electric - Mega Raichu X
Lavender Town - Ghost - Mega Gengar (Morty moved to Lavender)
Celadon City - Grass - Mega Victreebel
Fuchsia City - Poison - Mega Beedrill
Viridian City - Psychic - (I don't really know tbh)
Violet City - Flying - Mega Pidgeot
Azalea Town - Bug - Mega Scizor
Goldenrod City - Normal - Mega Lopunny
Ecruteak City - Fire - Mega Charizard Y?
Olivine City - Steel - Mega Steelix
Cianwood City - Fighting - Mega Heracross
Mahogany Town - Ice - Mega Froslass (Pryce retires and gets replaced)
Blackthorn City - Dark - Mega Tyranitar (Clair becomes an E4 member and Silver replaces her Gym)
What do you guys think? If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments below.
