Lot o’ Squit 🦢 Spixworth Social Club

You might have heard about the social club in spixworth being unfairly closed down from the NEN or GB News, but I’m here to say it’s much deeper than that. I’m just gonna go over the facts and what is going on, from the extent of my knowledge, in order to spread awareness and ask for advice.

Firstly, here’s some background. The Blyths ran been running the social club and café since 2015 when they took it over from the last owners, up until very recently when they were evicted. They turned the business around into profit and created an essential community amenity which was actively used by over 600 members. Many of these members are elderly and used it as a way to get out of the house and meet their friends and family. Recently, they were evicted due to a disagreement with the trustee, which I will get to later. Without this community use, there is nowhere in spixworth for their members and the residents of the village to go.

The article in the Norwich Evening News shows some of the story, but it misses out so much important information about the club itself and the reasons for the incident. Unlike what many people seem to think, it was never about the rent increase, which the committee agreed to pay. The actual reasoning for the closure has not been made very clear at all by the trustee, but from what I have gathered, it is largely due to a 30 day eviction notice which was applied to the contract. One of the members of the trustee was allegedly also banned from the club after an incident a few years ago, and has reportedly shown his hate for the club, showing a clear conflict of interest if true.

The trustee has remained largely silent apart from a ‘Q & A’ which was mostly full of questions that did not represent the concerns of the resident, and answers that were evasive and somewhat irrelevant. They have not replied to any emails from the public, and will not comment on any of the issues, and haven’t since the announcement of the eviction.

There was a parish council meeting yesterday, in which the councillors, who are also automatically trustees, refused to comment on the club and declined to answer questions, without even a statement provided to the public. Needless to say, the meeting was a disaster with over 50 people attending and complete chaos with every question. I don’t understand why these people who wear two hats won’t comment on issues that they decide.

Now, the staff are left jobless and without their way of life, members are left without a space to meet friends, the family who run the business are left without income, and the parish councillors sail on without any consequences.

Thanks for reading, if anyone knows any more information or can give any advice I can pass on, please let me know, and I would really appreciate if you emailed clerk@spixworthparishcouncil.gov.uk to voice your concerns (if she actually replies).

Now that DIRT in anglia square has closed down, I was just wondering what other shops there are in the city centre that sell band shirts?
I'm looking for rock/metal band shirts. I know primark have a few at the moment but not interested in getting band shirts there.
Thank you

Pubs showing Premier League football?

I know there's a few months and a World Cup to go before EPL starts again, but I was wondering if anyone knew of pubs in the city that tend to show matches from outside of the Big Six? Or if I'll have to wait til Sunderland play Man U and hide in the corner :D

Norwich3DPrints

Hey everyone! I'm u/leeeeeeeeeeem, a founding moderator of r/Norwich3DPrinting.

After seeing the incredible 3D printing community come together in a reddit post for r/Norwich to help print a part for someone, I thought to make this sub reddit.

This subreddit aims to bring the Norwich 3D printing community together to:

  • Showcase prints
  • Give helpful advice on printing
  • Request the community for 3D printed parts
  • Advertise Etsy pages for those looking to sell/buy prints

I look forward to seeing the incredible designs and prints the Norwich community makes.

Norfolk Food Tour

Last year for a birthday, I took my sibling on a food tour of Norfolk, that led us into Norwich and would like to do the same this year. The idea is we get something to share or a snack at each place.

Last year we went to Bread Source in Aylsham, bar snacks at Gunton Arms, cheese scone at Wroxham Barns, shared a Bodega sandwich, flat white martini at Wildmans, a slice of pizza at Gonzos and finished with a Knoops.

Any places welcome, likely to finish in Norwich with a starting place TBC.

Any recommendations for this year welcome, TIA!

Regular Whitlingham evening / night walks

Would anyone like to go on a regular walk round Whitlingham Broad (or at least to a bench to sit when it gets dark). I was considering going every other week on a Tuesday (weather permitting) about 9pm to get some quiet time with nature and actually learn about the birds and see how things differ through the seasons. It would be nice to have some company if anyone else would be up for this :)

Roofer recommendation?

Does anyone know a tame Roofer that's looking for something to do? We have a flat roof that's suddenly not doing such a good job of keeping the weather out. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Any open mic events in the daytime?

Hi all, my seven-year old and I have been playing some covers (singing and guitar) and he would like to experience playing them infront of others. Problem is, most open mics are a bit late for a kid.

Know of any earlier opportunities in our fine city?

Norwich based 3d printing services

Does anyone know of a local business that can print small scale 3d print files?

I’m not looking for any large scale print batches or prototyping, just literally want a little thingy printed as I don’t have a 3d printer myself (or know anyone that does have one).

I want this printed: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2158220-jisulife-ultra-2-table-stand?from=search#profileId-2339725

Thanks in advance for any recommendations 😀

Hello, I wondered if there are any art exhibits around the city that are free/low entry fee?

I’ve done the castle and the museum of norwich and the sainsbury centre, so I’m looking for something different. Thanks!

Queers trying to make friends in/around Norwich

Myself and my partner (27 and 25) are both queer and trans, we were wondering if there were any queer or LGBTQ+ centred groups or stuff like that in the city? We play video games and love music (ive played in a few shows around the city) and my partner is super clever with crafts and arty 😄 if there's anything anyone can think of please let us know!

PS. when i lived in essex i went to the outhouse in colchester which was a lovely space for queer folk, didnt know if there was anything like that either

Recommendations for rosacea treatment in Norwich? (IPL - intense pulsed light)

Am visiting family in Norwich this summer and would like to get rosacea treatment when am in Norwich as it’s much cheaper in the U.K. than where I live. Has anyone had rosacea treatment using IPL aimed at reducing persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and inflammation in town? If so where would you recommend?

Also fellow rosacea sufferers if you have any serums, moisturisers, makeup or SPF cream you recommend and can tell me where to pick it up that would be super helpful. Thank you

Does anyone have any good recs? It's normally something I would do myself, but after a hard year I'm considering getting quotes to remove another stress from my life if we can afford it.

Outdoor Baby and Toddler Groups

Hi all!

Does anyone know of any outdoor focused baby and toddler groups? My little girl is 12 months old and loves being outside and socialising with other babies, so far every group I've found is aimed at children 2 and older, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knew of any for younger babies!

Thankyou in advance!
