Grandpa's Walther P38. He traded a few cartons of cigarettes for it at the end of the war. Been on a shelf ever since. Can you tell us about it?

Grandpa was a doctor in WWII. He was stationed at a hospital in Ludwigshafen, Germany, near the end of the war and traded for this Walther P38. Guy was a non-smoker and said the trade was for three or four cartons of smokes.

Yall are probably better at deciphering this stuff, but markings seem to be:

byf 44

9091 d

wa 4135 (?)

It's been in a box ever since, grandpa said he never fired it. I've got no experience with firearms, any details that can be shared about this? And any thoughts on reasonable value in a sale? My dad, who now owns the P38, says he'd like to sell it and is curious about a fair price.

Preciate your input.

almost a year ago I had a little extra cash so I gambled on hunters lodge On their type 38 ad. It’s actually a type 99. it literally came today. I have to say I’m very happy with it. minor dings on the wood and the bore looks amazing. Was it worth a year of me thinking I got ripped off for $300. I dunno.

Astra 400 9mm Browning Long?

Hello, just recently purchased a model 1921 Astra in the 80,000 serial range. I’ve read online that it is possible to fire 9mm browning long out of the pistol.

Since Largo is nearly impossible to find and .38 is tough as well, I saw some posts on gunboards from many years ago saying you can get away switching the ammo out.

Anyone ever have any success with this? If not I intend on purchasing some and seeing what happens!

Okay, so I’ve heard all sorts of bad things about Hunters Lodge (milsurp), but how bad really is it or how good?

So I have always been considering getting older rifles from them ever since I tried finding SARCO magazines and instead found out about the Hunters Lodge. Now most people report miss and hit purchases, rare but butchered models, missing parts, broken guns and bad quality milsurp. Is this really that bad? Just want to know before I have to send a check and wait 2-8 months for anything to happen.

I wasn’t actively shopping for a Panzerfaust, but there was no way I could pass it by. Ammo prices being what they are, it’s not likely to be in my EDC rotation.

In your opinion

In your opinion what WW1 German/Austrian pistol was the most reliable, the most iconic and the best overall? Your choices are a 1916 Steyr Hahn, a 1917 DWM Artillery Luger and a Mauser C96

Thoughts on a recent purchase

I got this M24/52C for $350. Bore is in excellent shape and the bluing is like new. Sadly it has an import mark on it. Based on my research, this is a 1924 P block batch VZ24 manufactured by Brno. Thoughts on this as my first piece in my milsurp collection?

193a3 last round popping out of mag.

New to me 1903a, When loading the first round, it wants to pop back out from underneath the lip of the receiver. Putting in the second round will keep it down in there. No problem. But when cycling the action, upon extracting round number four from the chamber number five in the magazine will just pop out. What should I look at, try and resolve this or see what I need to do to fix it?

Help identify Vietnam-era scope I found at a market in Vietnam

I found this scope when I was loitering around Dan Sinh market in Vietnam, a well-known place for original Vietnam War militaria in Saigon. From what I can tell, It's a commercial Alaskan Lyman All Weather scope with a simple cross reticle. The only military marking I can find is this stamping with white paint. My suspicion is that this is a scope from an early M1C/D Garand Sniper variant scope. What do you guys think?
