Per the company website, "John Ferolito and Don Vultaggio, the two owners of the Company looked at a map to see where it was hot. At first they thought of naming it Santa Fe, then they focused on AriZona and the rest as they say, is history."

So it's a California company based in New York, named after Arizona...

u/JThoms Dec 06 '16

Well, there was Dallas, from Phoenix; Cleveland - he was from Detroit; and Tex... well, I don't remember where Tex was from.

New Mexican here: Santa Fe is pretty cold compared to the rest of the state. Good call by the founders.

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '16

Well it isn't called "fire tea".

11

u/originalusername__ Dec 06 '16

"fire tea"

Now with 20% more peyote!

LET THE VISION QUESTING BEGIN!

2

u/FosterGoodmen Dec 06 '16

My father used to do tons of peyote while playing on the drums. Too bad I only saw him on the weekend.

Apparently you can get away with going on a vision quest while at work on a weekday.

Is this a... what day is this?

Is this a... what day is this?

Well I do work sir, so if you don't mind..

5

u/TwoHands Dec 06 '16

Yeah, that would be Phoenix. The city where a heatwave killed tons of homeless and elderly, while the most popular stolen item was home air conditioning units (which could add to the sick/elderly death toll).

11

u/trueluck3 Dec 06 '16

I want one of those

"Wissotzky. Earl Gray. Sweet. Green. Long ago, the four teas were cold brewed in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

4

u/Super_Pan Dec 06 '16

This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!

2

u/drunkenstyle Dec 06 '16

It is if it's my mixtape

15

u/SiValleyDan Dec 06 '16

Explains why everybody calls it such a cool little city...

5

u/tbaum101 Dec 06 '16

Could have also been confused with the Santa Fe River... Which is here in Florida... Where it's hot.. So...

1

u/Lame-Duck Dec 06 '16

Awesome river

2

u/noobonrs Dec 06 '16

Welcome to mexico, hope you enjoy your stay.

3

u/SconnieLite Dec 06 '16

They should of called it Yuma.

1

u/Norma5tacy Dec 06 '16

How cold?

1

u/mattylou Dec 06 '16

I mean, it's up in the mountains and rich people go there to ski. So, cold?

Here, i found this: https://www.currentresults.com/Weather/New-Mexico/temperature-july.php

I guess that works.

62

u/Xenjael Dec 06 '16

I guess...

38

u/94672721582 Dec 06 '16

But something deep down inside tells me that it... it doesn't work at all!

u/Sun-Anvil Dec 06 '16

After a falling-out between the two founding partners, Vultaggio prevailed in a 2012 suit against Ferolito

You could be right.

6

u/cynical_euphemism Dec 06 '16

u/RedLabelClayBuster Dec 06 '16

Looked at a map to see where it was hot.

Oh behave.

56

u/DaisyDej Dec 06 '16

As a native Arizonan, I was flattered by their decision.

2

u/Rikplaysbass Dec 06 '16

The only things I feel when I'm in Arizona are sweaty and heat stroke.

3

u/DaisyDej Dec 06 '16

I'll have you know, today's high is 65 degrees so I will feel pretty chilly when I go outside.

1

u/Rikplaysbass Dec 06 '16

78 with Thunderstorms in Florida today.

1

u/Cm0002 Dec 07 '16

16 degrees in Alaska at my house, god it's a fucking heatwave right now

23

u/sharings_caring Dec 06 '16

maybe it was a heat map.

3

u/CrazyJosh1987 Dec 06 '16

Couldn't call it long island ice tea I guess

8

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '16

Those are some serious Guido names

2

u/gskpmbb3 Dec 06 '16

They forgot the part where they decided to fortify it with vitamin C.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '16

Rumor has it they're still arguing where Upstate starts.

1

u/tickingboxes Dec 06 '16

Westchester

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '16

Everything is Upstate if you're on Long Island.

2

u/pyronius Dec 06 '16

"Hey John, where's it hot?"

"Uh, I don't know Don... Somalia?"

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '16

Arizona is a good choice then. The first time I visited Arizona it was over 101°F (that's over 38°C for you non-Americans) when I got off the plane. It was after midnight. So, basically this.

1

u/DaisyDej Dec 07 '16

Very accurate.

1

u/infamous_moses Dec 06 '16

Wait, really?! I swear I remember reading/hearing the original factory was on Arizona street in NY?

1

u/B088ytee Dec 06 '16

90's NY Deli Worker here ... was told when the product first came out it was made by a Jewish couple with the first names of Ari and Zona ... which explains why the "A" and "Z" are capitalized.

1

u/fluffygryphon Dec 06 '16

Death Valley Iced Tea... Now I need to start an iced tea company.

1

u/FyreLyon Dec 06 '16

If they were thinking of a place that's hot, why not Las Vegas or Death Valley?
