Speedometer: I think you can use an old phone with an app and mobile/wifi turned off.

Evidently, GPS doesn't require a cell signal or wifi. So, you can download a speedometer app and use it on an old phone without a cell phone plan.

(I haven't confirmed this yet but my speedometer app seems to be picking up a GPS signal without mobile or wifi turned on... all connections are off on my phone but it is still connected to GPS).

Advice Cheap Depth Finder Reccomendations

Would anyone have any options for a cheap, and affordable depth finder.

This would be going on a '24 Yamaha GP SVHO.

I'm not looking for fancy. I don't need GPS, or really any memory settings what so ever. I'm simply looking for depth, and I'd like it to be moderately reliable at slow plane speeds... About 30 mph if such an item exists.

Also looking for Reccomendations on how to mount. I've seen videos where folks drill, or mount to the rear step bracket... I've also seen folks drill and run the cable, or use a drain plug conversion and run it through there.

I'd really prefer to avoid drilling period on this hull, but I'd like to know what'll last and work best

Thanks guys.

Technical Issue 2001 seadoo gtx carburetor pulse line inlet broke

Hello everyone!

Lately has been quite the adventure as a new ski owner, but im pretty damn confident with tearing this whole thing down now! Long story short, a top end rebuild turned into splitting the case because of dropping needles in the bottom end (or so I thought). Split it open, nada, re assembled with all new parts and its just about ready to get back in the ski!!

But, I goofed and broke the inlet nipple for the pulse line on the mag carb. Best way to fix? Drill and tap to thread in a fitting? Cant be the first person, is there something available for this? Ive found maybe 1 used cover and its insanely priced. All help appreciated, thank you!

2009 Kawasaki stx15f

Hey guys looking at buying a 2009 Kawasaki stx15f with 237 hours for 3,500 aud. Looking to see if this is worth it and if this is a pretty reliable and capable ski. Seller had said that the previous owner had done a top end rebuild. Just wondering if this is a red flag for a ski or pretty standard. Looking to use the ski for saltwater use such as island hoping and spearfishing and also for towing tubes and skis at the lake. Thanks

Bad stator? Kawasaki1100 stx di

Anyone on here familiar with the older kawi stx di’s? No spark across all 3 coils, checked all grounds, I have power everywhere I’m supposed too. Old crank position sensor was shorted out, installed a good sensor that is within spec as far as a resistance reading, puts out 1.8v ac manual says it’s supposed to put out 2.7v ac but I’m not that worried. Moved on to the stator, checked resistance and it was within spec but the output voltage is supposed to be 45v ac or more when cranking. When I tested it only put out 2.2v ac. Obviously that’s way out of spec so took out the stator and cleaned it with a wire brush, re installed and now I’m up to 3.3v. Still not even close but I’m assuming either the flywheel or stator are the cause of the no spark no fuel condition (not putting out enough volts to wake up the emm) especially since there was a small difference in volts after cleaning. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Seeking advice

Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I are completely new to jet skis but have been researching them and looking around for a while now. We came across one 2023 Sea‑Doo GTX 155 with less than 100 hours, plus a double ski trailer, all for $8,000. It’s a family member selling it so we know it’s not a scam.

What do you guys think? We’ve also heard mixed things about Sea-Doos having reliability issues, so I’d really appreciate any honest feedback, advice, or things we should look out for before buying. Thanks so much!

Low Compression but runs great

Just did a compression check on my 1997 Kawasaki 1100 stx, was looking for ~120 psi, but instead getting 60 on the first, 10 on the second, and 60 on the 3rd, the ski runs great which is confusing, gets going at around 45mph +, no bogging, idles fine. Not sure what could be going on. Any ideas?

Discussion To block off or not to block off?

Post image
17 Upvotes

There’s a lot of debate on the old two strokes as to whether you should block off the oil pump and pre-mix.

On the one hand, you eliminate the possibility of an oil injection failure killing your engine.

On the other, you lose the convenience of filling up at a marina like a 4 stroke.

Which do you prefer?

Water in exhaust manifold?

I have a 2007 Yamaha VX that I just rebuilt the engine on. Only has a few hours on it and runs great but if I shut it off and it sits a few minutes it won't restart. When I pull the plugs they are full of water. If I crank the engine over with the plugs out and ski in water I get water spraying out of all four cylinders. I had this same problem before rebuild and the head is new and all exhaust surfaces were machined flat and new own gaskets installed. From my understanding water should not be in the exhaust except in the outer jacket and that the jacket goes the entire length of the exhaust and out the 3 holes just before the water lock. I'm starting to think that maybe there is a crack in either the manifold or elbow and is filling up the manifold and when trying to start it the engine is sucking the water in the cylinder through the exhaust valves. Anyone have experience with this? Am I missing something?

Technical Issue Bought a ski and found the problems a little late

Thumbnail gallery

As the title says I bought a ski, it's a 1995 Seadoo GTX and I was incredibly impressed when the guy sold it to me. Me and my friend decided to go 50/50 on a jetski for the summer and he had checked it out earlier in the day and was super impressed on land. Ski looked great, had the normal oily-ish inside but no red flags. Came with extra parts, ran first try and the trailer was in great condition. I came later that day with money and talked to the guy myself and was also impressed. He did tell me of some problems that he had, something wrong with the engine that made him pull the whole thing and re-build it down to the crank shaft and he swore up and down that it was pristine and hasn't failed him since. I talked the guy into letting me take it on the Mississippi (I'm in Minnesota) for me to give it a test drive and afterwards was even more impressed, I pulled it out, gave him the money and he gave me the title and the paperwork for the trailer and he left. It was only then that I was calling my buddy to tell him about the deal that I walked around the back of the ski to see that it was draining water like it was a 45 foot speedboat, and, opening the seat it was at least 5/6 inches deep in water underneath. I noted at this time that there was no water coming out of the hull. I immediately called the guy and went to his home, and after a few minutes of pestering I got him to come out and take a look. He said that there was no drain plug that went with the ski and that the only way that the water could have gotten there would have been with the ball valve in the back of the ski or a leak from one of the engine parts. I told him that I wasn't going to ask for my money back because if it was fixable I would rather just do the work. What should I do?

TLDR; bought a ski after a test drive but didn't check under the seat to find that there was inches of water inside and im now confused on what to do

P.S. ski was $1200

WavesRx TriFenders Issue?

Has anyone else had trouble with these staying hooked in the gunnels on 2026 GTI or 2026 GTR-X models? We have increased tension, reduced tension, used different tether points… they are hard to set up and then always come unhooked while docked.

We are considering just trying something different but wanted to know if anyone else encountered this issue…

Thanks!

Technical Issue Superjet not starting

Hi all,

This is my first ski I’ve owned so not mechanically inclined when it comes to issues.

Had my ski out all weekend and was running great per usual. Went to take it out yesterday evening and wouldn’t even turn over. I am worried the water crashing over the front end on the beach with all the waves may have caused issues.. but after all, they are made for water so I don’t know.

I have attached a video for what it sounds like when I try start it. Any idea what the issue could be here?

1999 seadoo gtx limited 951 CARB

so took this ski out today, during my 2 hour ride it happened 3 times, it would be running great at 6700rpm no problem, would bog down to 5700-5800rpm and not want to go above it until i slowed down to idle for 15-30seconds then would rip again right to 6700rpm, it only happened like 3 times during a 2 hour ride, what could be the issue? just some gunk passing through the carbs?

Top speed loss

I have a 2021 rxtx 300 that was hitting 76 at 8k rpms no problem, now it will only top out 73 at 7900rpms. I took the intake piping off the inlet of the supercharger, and there is a good amount of oil in the rubber boot. Would slightly overfilled oil cause more oil mist to come out of pcv valve resulting in less rpms? Or is that normal and I should look somewhere else? The problem did not start after an oil change. It was running 76 well into my most recent oil change. Any tips are much appreciated
