She was described as a Great Pyrenees mix and I thought it'd be fun to get an embark test. I was surprised by how high the percentage of pyr is! She's settling in pretty well and we're working on her leash manners and reducing her terror of the brush. Weirdly enough, there was no issue with clipping her nails!

My 4 month old male great Pyrenees looks a lil goofy, we think it’s just a lazy eye and aren’t very concerned, anything to be worried about?

And maybe hogging the bed a bit too 😂

To anyone else with “broken” Pyrs like mine - never barks or guards, loves to lay around for belly rubs - post your lazy Saturday pics!
(I’ll also take all your awesome guardian photos of Saturday adventures - all of these dogs are so amazing!!!)

Took my guy to a dog beach and he nearly ran off - he seems to want to explore.
He doesn't straight up "book it" - but he will run away and find someone or something to sniff - at which point I can catch up and grab his leash.
Curious if this is something that can be trained in this breed.
He's 1/2 Great Pyr and a mix of like 8 other breeds.

The breeder just picked him up to go to a puppy party with two of his siblings that they kept and another puppy from the litter that her good friend has. I didn’t realize how big he had gotten until I seen him in this picture since I see him every day. Their farm has a small business where they do puppy parties, pony parties petting zoo parties, and they do doggy and goat yoga on their farm. She already was involved in a puppy yoga class at their farm and homestead! He’s safe and he’s with dogs that he knows and it’s gonna be good for him to keep him socialized and be able to not be completely dependent on my big dog year so that way he doesn’t have separation anxiety issues and I also get a break today lol. Second picture is his front leg next to my wrist a s forearm . That’s so serious Garth and bone density in he’s got going on there! he’s definitely checking on the size of his mother who is the Pyr/Corso ! Well, I’m gonna nap on this rainy day in New England while I can. I worked last night. I’m tired everybody have a great day to you and your doggies.

Our sweet loving family pyr is a great dog. Good with everyone; people, dogs, cats, birds, whatever. He’s 99% calm, chills around the house, plays in the yard, loves walks, literally a perfect dog. We accidentally left the front door open one day to go run some errands and he vigilantly stood watch behind the door until we got home. There is one issue… he absolutely despises and wants to murder what’s on the other side of the fence. Goes full retard when someone walks by our street and sidewalk facing fence. He has broken the 4x4s in concrete. Busted through multiple fence pickets only to find a neighbor walking their dog or walking to the park with their kids. When he does said atrocities, he hangs his head in shame and runs back to the front door and awaits reentry to his home. He has yet to find a real threat to his flock of people and he realizes he fucked up when he does it. I need a solution to this behavior. Like I said, he’s a perfect dog. Smart and follows most commands when there is reward. But no matter what I do, he goes apeshit when he sees a shadow stroll by the fence. Please help me save multiple weekends of repairs to my fence. My back hurts.
Edit: I see the peek a hole comments, we did that, he obliterated those as well.

Dorothy is 1.5 years old and her hair doesn't seem to grow. I'm worried she has some kind of issue. She also doesn't seem to grow past 55 lbs. Her sister, Barbara is semi fluffy and 70 lbs. Any ideas? One pic of each is included for comparison.

10 years is never enough, even though they were filled with snuggles, treats, and food thievery.

Phantom is our first Great Pyrenees. Long story short, we found her and rescued her. She’s about 1 and 1/2 years old now. I’ve learned a lot about this breed in the past year that we’ve had her, but I’m curious to know if a pyr will typically protect their owner when danger arises.
Some more about our baby girl:
Phantom has pretty bad social anxiety around strangers. She will bark and cower when someone approaches her, especially at home. If there were an intruder/attacker, for example, I know she would bark because it is a stranger, but I wonder if she would also just run away and hide like she usually does if we were to be in some sort of physical trouble.
1st pic is from our trip to Zion. 2nd and 3rd are some pyr paw action

I just heard of using baking soda to prevent fleas. Anyone have experience with this? Does it work? Is it harmful? What about ticks?

Hey all, for those that saw my last post, we put Annie down today. She had a peaceful passing, we opted for at home euthanasia. We fed her steak and cheese and turkey. Gave her some Taco Bell and a pup cup when I was there last night. The vet gave her some opioids and some ketamine, and she fell asleep within minutes, snoring the whole time. After about 30 minutes of hugging and crying, we decided it was time to go. I stayed with her for 45 minutes after she crossed over and we took her to get aquamated. After we laid her on the table at the aquamation place (Eternal Waters in Converse, Texas) I stayed with her for another 30 minutes before finally saying goodbye to her physical body. Once I get her ashes, I’m going to spread some at her favorite places, and get some mixed into ink to add on to my existing tattoo of her with her DOD. I have her collar hanging from my rearview mirror in my 4Runner that I named after my first dog, Bear. They were best friends before Bear died and now they’re together again in doggy heaven. I love you Annie. You’ll always be my best girl. I miss you so much but I’m so happy you’re not suffering anymore.

He’s BFFs with our Maine Coon kitten. When he goes to bark at something she tags along. 🤣

I read that Great Pyrenees live between 10-12 years. I have two one is 6 and the other is 11. I know each individual dog will only live a certain amount of time. I’ve just see a lot of posts with people giving the age of their dogs and I see a lot of older dogs. I was just curious if you’re willing to discuss. If you had a Great Pyrenees pass away how old are they? If you have one right now that’s over 12 what’s their age?
I’m asking cause my 11 pup has developed really bad arthritis and she barely moves any longer. I have her on medication but she’s seems to have lost a lot of muscle mass. My wife and I have debated how long do these dogs actually live for cause I think Lucy is actually older than they thought she was when we rescued her.
EDIT: I didn’t mention that we had taken her to the vet and had X-rays done and a full senior blood panel worked up. She’s been taking Carprovet for a few months already. They added Gabapentin and Amantadine.
Thanks everyone for your posts. They are hopeful, heartfelt, heartbreaking, honest and insightful. Understanding where others have been and had success gives me a clearer direction when communicating with the vet for any proposed paths of care. Thank you all so much!

Until now she’s basically only barked to be let in. Today she remembered that she’s a pyr and felt the need to let everyone know.

I thought this was such classic great pyr that I had to share. We were at a family owned cabin over Memorial Day weekend. Derby spent the better part of the trip telling this other dog to leave us alone! The stranger refused to comply.

Before anyone comes at me with the “just get a DNA test” of course I know I could do that, but I just want to know what breed people see in him because I get different answers all the time!!! The shelter said he is a Great Pyrenees (he has the extra toes and lotsss of the characteristics that you all describe: very vocal, digs, protective etc) but the shelter also said he is Bernese Mt Dog (im guessing because of his colorway…)
I see other dog in him but lmk what you think!!!

Hello everyone,
Eleven months ago today, I rescued my twins, and I recently discovered this subreddit. I wanted to share some of my favorite pictures of them. Zeus is my big boy and Runa is my digging gremlin.
Wishing everyone an amazing day!
