General Question Glass

Tonight, while eating dinner I chewed on a large piece of glass. I spit the entire bite out, after realizing what it was. The problem is that I don’t know where it came from. The meal was part of meal prep I prepared yesterday and I did not use any glass, other than the container it was stored in and it is not missing any parts. I did however use a store bought sauce which I am concerned it came from. Should I contact the sauce brand? Or strain the remainder of the sauce? I would hate to waste perfectly good sauce though. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

General Question dumb question: freezing rice

Really dumb question probably, but I just haven’t seen it answered before.
I want to freeze rice to keep it good longer, but everything I look up only gives directions on freezing freshly cooked rice. If I have rice that has been in the fridge ~24 hours (and was placed there within 2 hours of being cooked) can I now divide it up and throw it in the freezer? And how do I avoid it getting freezer burned or going bad? How long can it be in the freezer before I should toss it?

General Question Is this mold I’m so scared

On the pepperonis is this mold. I mean I think it might just be cheese but like I don’t know. Either way if it is confirmed to be just cheese I might throw it away because I’m still quite scared.

This pizza was bought yesterday from a pizza place and I don’t think it was left to sit out for more than two hours because I know that allows bacteria to grow and when I got the pizza today to heat up it was from the garage fridge which is cold I assume because it’s a fridge.

I don’t know I think I might just throw it out at this point because I’ve been debating if it’s mold or not for like ten minutes and I’m so disgusted I can’t eat it.

unopened chia seeds left outside in direct sunlight less than 12 hours — safe to eat?

so i bought these chia seeds last night, but they must’ve fallen out of the bag when i was bringing the groceries into the house. i didn’t notice until about 20 minutes ago when i was coming home from another store.

are they still safe to eat? i’ve never had chia seeds before, so i have no clue what they should look or smell like. i did notice the container was “sweating” a bit, so the seeds will stick to the wall of it. i opened them to smell them. like i said, idk what they’re supposed to smell like, but nothing made me think “ew, gross” or anything.

please help 😬

General Question Unopened in date yogurt kept on top shelf of fridge

I’ve had this tub of yogurt on the top shelf of the fridge for about a week I think, it hasn’t been opened and it’s in date but whenever I google wether it’s safe Google tells me it could be off since it was on the top shelf… but everyone around me says there’s nothing to worry about
Anyone know if it’s safe to eat lol like should I keep it and not toss it IF it’s still perfectly good when I open it, I don’t wanna waste food, will it be easy to tell if it’s gone off? Sorry if this is a silly question

Got cheesy ramen at mall and didn’t get it in the fridge for 2.5 hours — is that ok?

I’m a little weary about leaving food out of the refrigerator for more than the recommended 2 hours. Yesterday at a mall I got cheesy ramen that has rice cakes and fried chicken in it and we didn’t get home until about 2.5 hours after I started eating the food.

I put it in a Tupperware container from the food place and walked around the mall with it in a bag before returning home and then immediately got it in the fridge.

Is it fine to eat today? There’s still quite a bit leftover and I’d hate for it to go to waste

is a cut up onion left at room temperature unsafe to eat?

I've been eating raw cut up red onion in salads and I've been cutting off a piece wrapping it in tinfoil and leaving it at room temperature then coming back the next day cutting off the exposed ends and doing it again. Also there's been a heatwave in th UK atm.

General Question I can't tell if this is normal

Post image

Expiry is july 2026.

it is a mango flavoured tofu dessert

The texture is kinda weird and the 'splitting' on the top is kinda odd. the inside also has super thin layers, and it isnt smooth like a silken tofu when you cut into it, i have never seen this before lol ( and i eat tofu everyday😭 )

I have never tried this before, I have just moved from asia to north america, so im also not sure if this is like normal for NA tofu desserts?

It does not taste particularly off but it is definitely odd tasting in comparison to like what i am used too.

Preserved lemons gone mouldy?

So ive fwrmented lots in the past few months and this is my only failure . Not sure why as there was so much salt in this. Is ot maybe due to the exposed edges of the lemons ? Il confess I left this one alone unlike all my others which I fussed over making sure they were submerged, but honestly because of the level of salt and lemon I assumed it would be safe from mould.

General Question if there are fruit flies on my bananas are they still safe to bake with

i have some bananas in my fruit bowl which are pretty perfect to make into banana bread, but as i picked them up a bunch of fruit flies flew off and now i’m worried they’ll be unsafe to eat. i wouldn’t normally worry, but there were some breaks in the skins and now i can’t stop thinking they’ve laid eggs in them or were carrying diseases or something.

i’m sure i’m being overcautious since they’re literally going in the oven, but please let me know!

General Question Bathroom leak onto groceries? Landlord claims food is safe?

Hello! We rent the second floor of a 3 story building. Last night overnight, our upstairs neighbors toilet tank failed and due to the layout of our apartment, flooded our kitchen cabinets. This morning, all of our food is soaked. The landlord is saying the food is fine because its just on the outer packaging and it's "tank water" not "bowl water". I'm still feeling very hesitant about using the food. I'd love opinions here.

What are the risks of drinking orange juice that was left in a car overnight?

I left a bottle of orange juice in my car for about 8 hours overnight. The outside temperature was around 15°C (59°F). When I took it out, it still felt slightly cool.

The juice was 100% orange juice, with no preservatives. It had never been opened before, and it was pasteurized.

What are the risks of drinking it after being left in those conditions?

Wrong setting on crockpot - is the chicken safe?

I did my usual 2 family packs of chicken in the crockpot overnight.

But, it was set to warm not high. Totally my fault. Was in warm overnight and It’s still not cooked. But is warm enough to keep it safe before I turn it on high to cook?

I think I know the answer but wanted to test my sanity.

Frozen chicken, then thaw in fridge, then freeze again?

If I buy a raw chicken leg, freeze it right away, after a few months I thaw it for a day in the fridge, and then decide to return it to the freezer, will it still be safe to cook at a later date?

Or should I throw it out?

Or will it just get a bit of freezer burn, the quality won't be as good, but still completely safe to eat?

All my 4 yogurts I just bought are lumpy.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I just bought 4 containers of organic probiotic Stonyfield strawberry yogurt whole milk, and they have all been extremely lumpy. When I stir the yogurt it doesn’t become smooth again. They smell fine and taste fine, but the texture isnt smooth like they usually are.

Is this normal, or fine to eat? Because those were expensive.

I just noticed this package of vacuum-packed precooked chestnuts had been sitting in my pantry for several months.

They're only 10 days past the best before date, so I'm thinking it should be fine right...?

Understanding ricotta and pasteurization

Hi everyone.

I’m pregnant and recently ate a cannoli at a restaurant that I found out, after the fact, was made with unpasteurized ricotta. Ugh.

My partner is convinced it is OK since the process of making ricotta to begin with involves heating it up (effectively killing listeria) however, every source I read online says that ricotta is OK only if it’s pasteurized.

My question is - why would “pasteurized” or “unpasteurized” matter here if the very process of creating ricotta includes enough heat to kill listeria?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this. I’ve read tons online and can’t seem to understand it.

Boneless Wingstop wings but I’m worried needing advice I don’t know much about like raw chicken and stuff. But the texture was like jelly a little but can’t tell if that just fatty tbh. It’s boneless too so I thought it would all be white meat? Some of it is
