Am excited for this episode. The actors have such great on screen chemistry and it is so interesting watching them navigate their lives around each other. Nice to see actors in their mid 30s in a bl series and these actors are terrific. An excellent series and their interaction with each other is sweet.

I felt all that when the sister said their dad had different sides and he only remembered the good ones. When he found the book and realized his dad "translated" it to specifically appeal to him you could see exactly what the sister was saying, he was a good dad but also had his demons.

I love the nephew, sometimes we need to hear someone else's viewpoint of us to see our shining points because we get caught up on the "flaws"

The whole burn out discussion also hit hard. When he said there wasn't a single event but a pile of small ones... that's so real

This duality is also part of Azuma's life. His sexuality is the topic that his family tiptoes around. Living with his sister's family doesn't exactly give him the social standing to advocate for himself. Azuma is subsisting on the crust of humility.

It doesn't look like Tamaki knows. In his eyes, Saku-chan is the cool uncle that has been mysteriously single all of his life. Tamaki innocently repeats the family's cover story that Azuma is just "taking a rest" when it goes far deeper than that.

I like how you worded this. Although the moment was short, Azuma’s reaction in the car after his mother wasn’t able to finish that sentence spoke volumes. He looked tired and disappointed but was also resigned to the fact he wouldn’t get more words. Like he’d been waiting for her to finish that sentence for a long time :(

I'm old enough to relate with Kuji and Azuma experiencing, in real time, how their own parents who seemed so strong and indomitable years ago, could now be so frail. And how one day I may be as they are, maybe not as young or healthy or privileged or pretty, but still doing the best I can. 🥲🫶

Anywho, I do believe Life In Smokey Blue ep 3 underscores Azuma and Kuji being different yet having similar worries and experiences, and bonding over those. Beautiful. 🙏

Azuma's mom still trying to be hospitable and automatically wanting to prepare tea for Kuji despite being injured 🥲

I suddenly miss my paternal grandma, who had househelp but would insist on personally preparing food whenever her grandchildren visited 🙏❤️‍🩹

Like with "Song of Spring", couldn't find a children's book titled "The Little Warrior" by TW Clark about a boy named Alexander... but there is a book by PG Wodehouse with the same title, about a plucky young lady named Jill: https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/6837/pg6837-images.html

Same... I really enjoyed seeing them tackle such an important topic with no fuss.

I'm enjoying their chill journey to love via companionship.

This drama is so, so precious. I am loving it all. I only have one question... is it me, or is Takeda Kouhei ageing backwards? How is he looking younger now than he did in 2022?

He certainly is turning back the age clock.

I know! It's sorcery!

Yes I wish I had a bit of that as well😀😀

Yes, what kind of magic is this?

Love how they are weaving together their "OBVIOUSLY we go together, we just aren't gonna say it out loud" story.

It is unfortunate that Azuma's mother wants to acknowledge it, but can't bring herself to broach the subject of her son's sexuality.

Yes she really seemed like she wanted to try and bridge that gap but just couldn't find the right words in the moment!

This episode was so relatable. Glad I decided to watch it as soon as it dropped (even if it is the wee hours here). Loving these two 💛

The timing of episode releases always throws me off since it is not what I'm used to for my time zone.

❣️😎azuma not everyone is suited for the workplace rat race and its ok🤔ever since he reconnected with kuji feels like he has found his rhythm and he no longer feels like he is in a rut😉they enjoy the same things like books and translations😉kuji could also relate what azuma’s mother needs having gone thru the same things with his dad taking care of the elderly🤔this is a good foundation for their budding relationship😎❣️

Interesting, I like where they are going. It's so relatable to see their relationship unfold, but also have their darker sides there at the same time

These two are like Yin and Yang. They’ve both got something the other needs and they balance each other out so nicely. I love watching Azuma just be his unfiltered bright and blunt self and how it makes Kuji smile watching and listening to him. I love that for Azuma, Kuji has relit a spark to begin to fall in love with life again (beyond just Kuji himself). And I love that although we can see Kuji is still holding back in showing his cards, it’s very clear that he’s in deep and cannot resist his feelings. I’m very curious to know more about Kuji and his family next ep.

This is the best episode so far...I love how cozy, yet grounded in the reality of life it was.

I'm forced with considering my parents advancing age and fragility so I related a lot to today's episode.

The kisses... they are so bad...

5

u/ocean_lullaby A Man Who Defies the World of BL Apr 21 '26

I've come up with a way to tolerate the weird JBL chaste mouth presses now, I put them in the same mental category as the TBL sniff kisses... so when I see them I think "oh that might seem odd to me but I know that it is meant to convey affection" rather than getting annoyed about how ridiculous it seems. It works about 70% of the time, and the other 30% I'm still complaining about it being okay to show the leads pounding flesh, but intense kissing is apparently a bit too gay.

3

u/Cortabene Apr 21 '26

Right. Like sex is fine, but emotional intimacy is too much?

5

u/Cortabene Apr 21 '26

I've seen this in other jbls and I know it's an intentional choice, but I don't understand it in this series. Especially based on their initial encounter which was considerably more intense.

It’s so frustrating, specially since they already showed them on a very intense NC scene at the beginning, and we’ve already seen Takeda do an amazing kiss in Old Fashion Cupcake😩 but the rest of the story is so beautiful and touching that I’ll just complain this one time and hope the kisses will get better in future episodes 🙏🙏
