BCIT - Late to class?

Hello All, I would like to get back to school again however part of my entry requirement needed me to refresh my Math skills - It been be around 7 years since i last study.

My current dilemma is, I wanted to start the course asap, and the earliest class start on June - however the class will start at 17.30PM. I finish work at 5PM usually and it will take about 38-45min to get to BCIT in Burnaby, I wonder if its okay that i came to every classes 15 minutes later?

The other options is to start on the Fall term, however i have an event on October and there's a schedule for mid term exam during that time, and i don't know if its possible to request for a different mid term exam for one of the exam date?

does anyone have experience with coming late to class or request different exam date?

The course is OPMT 0199 - Math for business - 6 weeks duration / 12 week duration.

what is food processing safety and quality?

I am a Computer Science student trying to transfer into health science/Chemistry. So I am not familiar with QC/QA programs and jobs. What is this program/diploma about? and what are the jobs can I get after finishing the diploma?

Also I heard QC/QA in food industry usually does not get paid that well. Is this true?

COMM 2002 + 2003 or COMM 2216 — Best Option to Meet 69% Requirement?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to choose between COMM 2002 + COMM 2003 and COMM 2216 for my Level 2 Communication requirement.

To be honest, my main priority is choosing the option where getting 69%+ is realistically achievable with consistent effort. I’m not looking for the easiest course with no work, but I want to avoid choosing an option where the grading is unclear, feedback is not helpful, or it is unnecessarily difficult to meet the requirement.

Has anyone taken these recently? Which option would you recommend in terms of workload, grading fairness, writing difficulty, presentations, instructor feedback, and overall manageability?

Also, if anyone has taken COMM 2216 with Laurie Izgerean, could you share your experience? I saw some mixed reviews online, but I’m not sure how accurate or recent they are.

Thanks!

Got waitlisted for the mrad program, does the personal profile have to be fully filled out to get accepted?

I applied for the mrad program and didn't know that my application was incomplete until about a week after because I didn't know there was an entirely separate email they would be sending stuff too, which I hadn't even set up. I think that's entirely unfair because all of the information about it is on a bunch of separate pages on the website instead of all in one place on the program page. But that's besides the point.

I got waitlisted and haven't heard anything since, but I'm wondering if the personal profile needs to be completely filled out. Things like my SIN and my English language proficiency aren't filled out but I wasn't prompted to do that when I applied. I'm assuming because I'm waitlisted already I don't need to fill it out, but just want to make sure.

Included a picture of the first part so people know what profile I'm talking about lol

BCIT Fraud & Financial Crime Investigation (FFCI) Microcredential – Anyone done it?

I'm looking at the Fraud and Financial Crime Investigation (FFCI) Microcredential at BCIT. It's 6 courses total (4 required + 2 electives). The program has been around for about 3 years now.

The required courses:

XFSC 3020 – Foundations of Fraud and Financial Crime Investigation

XFSC 3025 – Investigative File Coordination

XFSC 3030 – Interviewing Methodologies for Fraud and Financial Crime Investigation

XFSC 3035 – Evidence Analysis for Fraud and Financial Crime

Electives (pick 2):

XFSC 3040 – Money Laundering Investigation

XFSC 3045 – Financial Strategic Intelligence Analysis

XFSC 3050 – Unexplained Wealth Order Investigation

XFSC 3055 – Financial Cybercrime Investigation

I already have my CAMS certification and some banking experience.

My questions for anyone who has taken this program:

For someone who already has CAMS, did this actually teach you new practical skills?

How does this help on a resume? Does it have value Or is it recognized by banks, fintechs, or government agencies?

Has anyone here actually completed this program? It's been around for 3 years. Curious if it helped you get a job or move into an investigator role.

How heavy is the workload? Is it doable while working full-time?

Anyone attend this year’s BCIT MLS online info session?

Just wondering if anyone here attended the MLS online info session this year

Did they mention anything specific about the interview/MOA format, what they’re focusing on, or any tips on preparation?

Trying to figure out what to expect. Thanks!

I’m especially nervous about the English communication part as a non-native speaker. I’ve lived and worked in Canada for years, but there are still some less commonly used words/directions/phrases that I don’t hear often in daily life. I’m worried about misunderstanding something simple during the assessment and messing up because of language rather than actual ability.

Also, for people who already completed the process:

  • did they expect applicants to remember high school biology/chemistry/math content in detail?
  • should we be fully refreshing A&P/Bio/Chem from high school beforehand, or is the assessment more focused on reasoning and communication?

Any advice or general impressions would really help. Thank you!

BCIT MLS to UBC BSMLS?

Anyone here who pursued their bachelor’s after the MLS diploma program? I just wanna know your insights and how it’s like in the BSMLS program since info about it seems quite scant. I’m in the MLS program (Level 4 moving to Level 5) and is somewhat interested in taking up med school in the medium term. My only other post-secondary is an MLA certificate.

Aviation Management and Operations program - any reviews or insights?

I couldn't find many posts and comments about this program at BCIT.

Overall, will this program be helpful in finding a stable career in airport and aviation industry after graduation?

The fact that it's part of the Trade program at BCIT gives me hope, but the "management and operation" term just makes me worried that it might be another useless general management program.

Has anyone completed this program that can share their insights? OR anyone currently in the program?

COMP 1002 w Fraser

Has anyone taken COMP 1002 with Fraser Robertson and can tell me what his exams are like? Rate My Prof says they're easy but I'd still like to know more about what I'm waking into.

Is it open note? Regular test style or are we using the virtual comps?

TIA

Anyone commuting from BCIT area to Coquitlam? 😭

This might be a long shot 😅 but I recently started working in Coquitlam, and I live near BCIT Burnaby.

I’m wondering if anyone here does a similar commute and might be interested in carpooling. I’d of course help pay for gas/parking

Transit is destroying my soul lol

Login Error.

Hello, I'm trying to register to enroll for my classes next week but I keep getting this issue, it gives me the same thing when I try to set up my MFA. I already have contacted support but they responded that I have yet to enroll nor set up my account.

Is anyone getting the same error? I would really appreciate any help!

Thank you!

Diagnostic Sonography - Cardiac (advanced diploma) inquiry

Hello,

I was a bit confused with the advanced diploma option compared to the regular diploma and understand it is much more intense / condensed of a program and it suggests " The program is designed for healthcare employees looking to grow their careers and learn cardiac ultrasound." would this program be reasonable for an application given that you haven't worked in a healthcare job but satisfy all the entrance requirements?

Thank you in advance for all the advice and insight

Student jobs?

Hi there!
I’m not a student at BCIT but am wondering if there is a place online to advertise a sort of collab situation. I’m ideally looking for someone who needs to launch a brand or work on the steps to create a brand. I’ve been doing Etsy for a long time now and hate it. I’m very creative but am having a hard time with the follow through and execution of things like product photos and a website. I know I can do it all on my own but I thought it could be mutually beneficial for someone who needs to complete a project but doesn’t have their own subject to focus on.
I am able to pay of course but am on a tight budget which is another reason why I thought this would potentially be worth a try.
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions or if I’m completely off base and this isn’t a thing please let me know. It’s all appreciated!

Radiation Therapy / Programs in general

hello! I'm fairly new to programs at BCIT as a recent UBC grad. I've had trouble getting into physio and decided to explore some other pathways in the health sector. However, I'm worried that the small cohorts also means programs such as RTT are incredibly competitive to get into or I may be wrong (which I hope I am).

thank you in advance for any advice / insight!

program progress questions

(sorry if this doesn't belong here)

I feel like I've wasted ~4 years on schooling.

  • in progress of a diploma, nowhere close to finishing it (Global Supply Chain Management, started 2022. I have until 2027 to "complete it"), and certificate (International Trade and Transportation Logistics, started 2023. I have until 2030 to "complete it"). I have 3 courses left. Both as a part-time student

  • in progress doing OPMT1130 "business statistics" (which is required for BOTH, and failing it (as I have reached my attempt limit) means I fail my programs and have wasted my time)

  • I have struggled with math heavy courses due to my lack of understanding, and still struggle to grasp it even after 2-3 reattempts, with tutoring, etc

  • should I just give it up (diploma) and find employment, and re-try the diploma or certificate (worst case scenario) in the future?

How does course registration work?

this is my first time enrolling at BCIT. Is course registration, sign up immediately and pay the tuition later as long as it’s before the deadline like most universities, or sign up and pay immediately?
