Eren's calm demeanor is... very chilling. He's learned everything, that the titans he vowed to murder are not the enemy - not only that, but they are his own people... now he, i presume, returns to his original, more general goal of pursuing freedom, venturing to other side of the wall, and whatever is on the other side of the wall, eventually past that...

Not really sure if it's still his goal. The memories of his father seemed to have made quite an impact on him and considering he literally has only a few years left to live. A fucked up situation.

i honestly think eren is gonna go all out and try to turn full eldian nazi to avenge his father's family. If you really think about all his suffering is pretty much caused by marley.

Maybe but from last episode he honestly just looks...defeated. I don't think there is much drive left in him + plus he is living a dog's life quite literally and knows that the only way for his power to transfer is being eaten alive. Imagine knowing in a few years you will have to die by being eaten alive. And add to that all you believed in is wrong. It's just...defeating.

I don't think he's calm, I think he's more just obliterated. Calmness and intense, yawning melancholy are two entirely different things. I guess I'm nitpicking though.

I was shocked that he had 0 reaction to realizing he had 8 years to live. I didn’t expect a freakout or anything, but he reacted like it was completely unimportant.

It's because dying doesn't really matter to him anymore at all. All the shit that he knows now it's even more important than his own life. That's where character development comes into play.

From the start of the series we've seen him go through many phases. Going from a kind of positive person (Hello Berthold, bye Grisha) to borderline suicidal and pessimistic (Historia and Mikasa at rescue) to now assuming a posture more in the Nihilistic kind of thinking (Bye Berthold, hello again Grisha). Manga readers have been gossiping that Eren changes even a lot more from now on. Definitely looking up to that!

I hope this comment makes sense, because with all the amazing stuff that's been happening lately my head is a freaking mess.

Good points for sure. Eren’s speech when Levi was deciding who to give the injection to was pretty telling in retrospect; he admitted that he had long since forgotten his childhood dream. Either he did simply forget it, or his dream just died outright at some point. The impulsive kid driven by sheer anger is gone, in favor of a logical soldier doing his duty. Accomplishing his own selfish goals pales in comparison to his role in saving humanity. At least to some degree.

And now he knows there is no actual "humanity" to save. There was never a real foreign enemy to fight against, just his own species.

I feel you to an extent. But a frustrating character =/= a bad character.

The supporting cast did really carry the series until about season 3 part 1 or so but that time of Eren being naive and emotional were necessary and honestly pretty understandable for a while.

I completely feel that. It's a big problem in a lot of series that turns me off a bit.

I dont feel that too much in AoT though, with the exception of like.. Hange lmao.

The first time Eren saw a titan (The colossal titan at that) after Maria he literally jumped into its face.

Eren's never been afraid of death, even less so after all the shit he's been through and what he now knows.

Joining the survey corps is basically giving yourself a terminal disease anyway.

The moment I had in mind was after Eren was swallowed by Santa, how much he cursed having to die before crushing all the Titans. The despair and anger he felt at the time is a far cry from the near nihilist he’s become in a short period of time. It’s less of a fear of death, and more of his lack of personal attachment to his own dreams.

Well yeah he did lose most of his reason for fighting in a really quick span of time.

But 8 years is more than enough to achieve his goals. I don't think training camp Eren would've been that hindered by it either tbh. Dying instantly before getting to fight back, and 8 full years when most scouts don't even last half that long is a bit different. My man just wanted to kill some titans.

Not only that but the titan that killed his mom (his initial reason for hating them) is his dad's first wife, and the source of his royal titan ability through the first bump he recalled.

That’s the question though. It seems like in this episode he’s learned that his fight against an advanced super power with 5 Titan powers who are hellbent on wiping them out. At the same time his dad’s ex-wife ate his mom, and he has less than 8 years to live. And to accomplish a big step in their goal he needs someone with royal blood and who knows what the hell cojld happen either to him or Historia when that’s found out.

Probably a lot to process right then.

You just broke me. All his hate to his own people. The killing of titans by the people in the walls, the titans killing people in the walls. All the same people just because they are mindless exiles from the continent. What in the fuck is this story telling. Its on a level i cant even process

He's still only 15. This show would be better if he wasn't a twink, but an adult.

A young adult yeah, but I get how Japanese shows likes the protagonists to be teens. He doesn't seem like a teenager though. And so much time has passed. They should have made him a 20-something as of now. Game of Thrones tweeked the ages when it became a show because pple of the age in the material was dumb. The show shoulda done the same.
