wtf? y'all just gon forget about armin?

u/sushilovingrhino May 26 '19

I don’t want to believe he is dead. I don’t want to fucking believe it. But....HE WAS BURNED TO A CRISP HOLY SHIT

MY BOY SACRIFICED HIS DREAMS FOR VICTORY!

What a champion.

25

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

look at how they butchered our boy

16

u/muhash14 May 27 '19

He did the same thing Erwin was saying in the previous episodes. He gave up his hopes and dreams in order to honor the people who gave their lives before, and for the ones who would carry on those hopes and dreams in the future.

u/ChuckBartowskiX https://anilist.co/user/ChuckBartowski May 27 '19

People out here forgetting Levi has the titan serum all over this damn thread. Someone is going to get it, either Erwin or Armin so I imagine one of them is for sure dead but no way both.

15

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

Naw, his skin is just charred. His brain and spinal cord gotta be fine. Titan injection incoming. It has to be. They can't kill Armin. I wont allow it.

u/fatelfeaper May 26 '19

I dead ass was not expecting Armin to die, I know that sounds stupid with Erwin dying earlier in the episode but just like Hange seemingly did not die, I thought Armin was clear to go.

172

u/Riyutake May 26 '19

There was a big flag on him from the end of the first half but I was praying it wouldn't come to pass...

78

u/Redditer51 May 27 '19

I feel like, more than any other death in the series, Armin's death signifies that all bets are off.

39

u/Kousuke-shii May 27 '19

Yeah, it's like season 1 all over again where nobody's safe but this time, we know who the main casts are which makes it more terrifying.

24

u/Redditer51 May 27 '19 edited May 27 '19

And it looks like we're not getting an "Eren was alive all along" fake-out this time either.

I was shocked when Erwin died, but Armin's death has me shook.

And I didn't even realize who that guy with the bowl haircut was until he thought of Trish, and I thought "oh no...." They would have made such a cute couple . But that's not really possible in AOT'S world.

28

u/Frozenkex May 27 '19

yeah, he was drawn very beautifully too :P

32

u/catofillomens May 27 '19

I won't write off Armin yet. Armin burns look terrible but his pants are still on. Possible that he's just suffered horrific skin injury but not brain-dead yet.

Titan serum + Titan shifter = one full healing pot which has yet to be used, as mentioned by Levi. Unlikely that this Chekhov's gun goes unused, and it may not necessarily be used on Erwin.

If it's used on Erwin, the episode preview doesn't fit. It has a shot of Levi positioning to inject the serem into Erwin, while Erwin seems to gesture to somewhere/someone else, while Levi looked shocked. There's no way that he's proposing to give it to a random soldier or someone else who doesn't need the healing, so Erwin choosing Armin over himself is a possibility.

It's a possibility that would fit many of the story beats of the season (i.e. Erwin passing the mantle to Armin, Erwin giving up his dream for humanity in the end).

u/PushEmma https://myanimelist.net/profile/SleepingWolves May 27 '19

Everything fits the creepy scenes seen at the end of the first half of 3rd season perfectly. Eren and Mikasa will fight Levi to use the serum in Armin or something like that.

u/hehey May 26 '19

Same here dude. Since we saw Hange survive, I thought maybe Armin could have maybe secretly developed some heat-resistant lotion or something and he already applied it on himself and Hange beforehand. Didn't expect to see his charred body at the end - that was brutal man..

24

u/SingularCheese https://anilist.co/user/lonelyCheese May 27 '19

Hange probably survived because of that guy we saw cover her in the explosion.

18

u/DarKav1411 May 27 '19

It was her assistant/sidekick/whatever Moblit.

12

u/guitar_vigilante May 27 '19

Hanger survived because her body is indestructible. Remember that scene where she got flung against a crystal column at like 80 mph? Her body is tougher than Rocky Balboa against Drago.

6

u/BaileyJIII May 27 '19

and thus Hange best girl

2

u/Hurr1canE_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Empiiriic May 28 '19

Most underrated highlight of this episode was that she’s still alive, my friend and I both sighed in relief at that moment.

2

u/BaileyJIII May 28 '19

Same, I was so scared that she was dead then she just shows up again which was so relieving. Although she lost an eye but it's worth it.

2

u/Hurr1canE_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Empiiriic May 28 '19

Maybe it’s just closed cause blood got in it? Probably just wishful thinking though, but at least she’s alive.

1

u/BaileyJIII May 28 '19

I was looking at Pixiv for artwork of her and saw several where she had an eyepatch so I'm pretty sure she lost her left eye. But yeah, at least she isn't dead.

11

u/JesseKam May 27 '19

Back in the day, us manga-readers called it the Kentucky Fried Armin.

3

u/hehey May 27 '19

He definitely looked crispy enough.

4

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

I still can't belive Armin died. Maybe they will use some kind of titan blood trick and turn Armin into a titan. Levi have that syringe right?

7

u/hehey May 27 '19

Yeah, I think so too. Why else would they mention the syringe at that moment? .But still, I wonder how dead you'd have to be to still get revived by the titan powers. Armin seemed pretty overcooked to me.

28

u/benjadolf May 27 '19

Nobody really expects the narrator to go down to be honest. However, if you go back to the first episode where we see a long haired Eren by the sea, its him who is talking, which narrative wise don't make much sense as it was always introduced to us as Armin's dream. So there was some foreshadowing, I suppose.

21

u/lllluke May 27 '19

It's not confirmed that Erwin is dead. He is probably going to die from his wounds if I had to guess, but I expect it to be on screen.

11

u/Galactic May 27 '19

He got dat All Might wound.

2

u/RedRocket4000 May 27 '19

I agree Erwin's wound will kill but most often slowly in great pain although the shock kills some fast. In modern War US could save him with a timely medivac but this is not modern War.

5

u/baicaibangx May 27 '19

Even they have medic, the medic is probably already grounded

2

u/RedRocket4000 May 27 '19

Yep medic almost sure to be down and for Erwin does not matter he needs blood and major surgery of a type I doubt the Wall people have available even if he was in a hospital. Modern day he most likely would live in US armed forces or others at that level or near a class one civilian trauma center. Would have to deal with short intestines after they sew what's left back together the rest of life and keep the one Kidney left healthy.

12

u/Redditer51 May 27 '19 edited May 27 '19

I mean, you don't expect it. Armin is part of the main trio. You figure he's at least safe till the final arc. And when most anime characters like that mention having a dream, you're at least accustomed to seeing them achieve it at the end. It's shocking. It'd be like if Killua or Usopp died.

Now that he's most likely dead, I'm just now starting to realize that I'll miss him. I'll miss seeing him grow more and more as a tactician. I'll miss seeing him be the voice of reason and humanity even in the most dramatic arcs.

8

u/ToastyMozart May 27 '19

Shit, with both Erwin and Armin down the heroes are going to be really short on strategies.

13

u/Redditer51 May 27 '19 edited May 27 '19

I know. Those two are THE tacticians of their unit. As far as I know, the only real strategist left is Hange.

Man, it's really tragic that in just two episodes, Erwin and Armin's dreams were utterly destroyed. Erwin will never get vindication for his father's theories about the basement. And Armin will never get to see what the ocean looks like. He lived and died surrounded by walls. In a poetic sense, he'll never see the ocean but he died so others could.

I still can't believe Armin is dead. Like, this is Armin! The hero's dorky, lovable best friend. The doe-eyed team strategist who you just want to hug. It'd be like Sam or Pippin dying in The Lord of the Rings.

Levi vs Zeke was amazing but that sacrifice of Armin was such an emotional moment it pains me to see so many people in this thread disregard it

34

u/Konko_ May 27 '19

Especially that powerful music... never heard it before, must be a new score

10

u/Ijustwant2beok May 27 '19

I know right! The music going quiet for an instant and then coming back in the moment his arm catches fire and he lets go of his blade (like he did his hopes and dreams) and it gets blown away. Goodness, that was one incredibly emotional and powerful scene.

For me, Armin's sacrifice and Levi's fight were the two main highlights of the episode. But this episode was so good it's chock full of other great/powerful scenes. Incredible episode.

3

u/Konko_ May 27 '19

The music was so epic I had to rewatch the scene about 10 times. Each time a tear left my eye 😓

-4

u/Albafika May 27 '19

Can we please not use names not mentioned in the Anime? Beast Titan should've sufficed.

21

u/jhutchi2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/jhutchi2 May 27 '19

They've already called him Zeke in the anime several times.

There’s just too many great things about this episode!

3

u/Colopty May 27 '19

Sad really, he was possibly the most badass person in this episode.

2

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

Thats how it was when it looked like Hange was dead too

237

u/xMlgBlaze420 May 26 '19

Smh people talking about how cool Levi is when I'm sad af that my boy Armin was scorched to death...

33

u/_Wado3000 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Orange_Afro May 26 '19

I’m kind of tore up about it. Genuine sadness over the fact we’ll never see him again.

I’ll be blissfully ignorant, and wait anxiously for it haha

201

u/Sane-Ni-Wa-To-Ri May 26 '19

His dreams are Eren's dreams now...

86

u/Tyraster https://myanimelist.net/profile/Tyraster May 26 '19

Seriously. I get that Levi vs Zeke and Eren finally getting the "kill" on the colossal titan after such a long time are both hype as fuck but Armin actually died ya'll. In a glorious yet gruesome way and seeing him burnt to a crisp actually disturbed me a little bit. Why am I not seeing any F's for our golden boy???

On a side note, I seriously thought for a second, after seeing Armin die, that Mikasa would also somehow sacrifice herself to defeat Reiner after their initial plan seemed to have failed.

18

u/tanaka-taro May 26 '19

Armin will always remain my favorite character in the whole series forever.

19

u/fizarr https://myanimelist.net/profile/fizarr May 26 '19

Right? The whole thread went crazy last week when Erwin got stoned huh. The lack of Armin comments here made me sad since he's my fav of EMA

15

u/Insidiosity May 26 '19

I know right? What tf? Yeah the levi fight was cool but armin is the centre of this episode

11

u/Cheshires_Shadow May 27 '19

So something I just realized. When Levi extracts Zeke he says he needs someone to eat him in order to absorb his memories. When Erwin leads the suicide mission he says how those that are lost in battle live on in your memories and how their dreams become yours. When Armin realizes he's going to sacrifice himself he passes on his dreams of seeing the sea into Eren. This show man I'm starting to see now why people have been praising these recent arcs so heavily. They absolutely deserve it.

9

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

That scene was fucking brutal.

8

u/ReallyLDot May 27 '19

And What about Sasha I came here expecting to see concern for her condition.. and what about hange being alive?

4

u/durants May 27 '19

That's what I was thinking. Expected this entire thread to be about Armin. I had forgotten entirely about Levi until I came here.

7

u/DaREY297 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Marin_Karin May 26 '19 edited May 26 '19

This isn't the end of him, right?

RIGHT?!

3

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

Be strong :(

2

u/DaREY297 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Marin_Karin Jun 02 '19

MOTHERFUCKER!!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '19

LOL see, being strong paid off.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Lol

3

u/phoncible May 27 '19

You were too early, still lots of Levi but Armin getting love deservedly

3

u/Weewer May 27 '19

Guess so... He is easily my favorite character in the show.

But I highly doubt he will stay dead. We have the syringe that was even reiterated this episode. It can either be used on him or Erwin but keep an eye out on the OP; there's a shot of Armin 'waking up'. I think this is our hint that it will be used on Armin...which means Erwin will remain dead :/

Unless the basement has more syringes? That would be dope.

4

u/bot_yea May 27 '19

I felt more emotional when reading the manga. The way they adapted the scene didn't have much effect on me.

5

u/[deleted] May 27 '19

tbh I found it the other way around.

1

u/mahyumi May 31 '19

Thank you for pointing it out! I know I'm late for the party, and I understand how amazingly cool it was to see both Levi and Eren, but seriously what about Armin? He can't be dead, right? RIGHT? This is one of those moments where storytelling be damned, I just wanna see I character I like alive and well T.T
