Random thoughts:

This was the first episode where I actually kind of like Shiori...it did a lot for her character giving her backstory like this. I sort of didn't expect us to all get the backstory behind her meeting with Hinako as well. That's got to be devastating to give two different people immortality, something people are always trying to take by force from mermaids, only to have both people effectively reject that immortality.

Miko knowing the backstory should hopefully put there relationship in a bit of a different context. Miko at least can just be normal jealous, not having to worry about the other girl in Hinako's life just outright consuming her.

Somehow I found the isopod Yokai hilarious. I assumed the lesser yokai weren't fully sapient, so I was surprised to hear there high-pitched voices.

Kind of feel like we got a lot of drops of backstory elements that feel like they could become plot relevant later on. No clue if girl #1 survived the explosion since I don't know the degree of immortality mermaid flesh grants, but it would be interesting to see her return as an antagonist. Since we still don't know her backstory and why she explicitly hates the idea of immortality. Also the name drop of human cults after mermaid flesh was...interesting. It's not uncommon for shows like this to try to throw in human threats, since they are often dangerous in ways that a supernatural monster isn't it, since they can use the human world against our characters.

Hinako probably doesn't have full immortality just healing because Shiori only gave her blood instead of flesh, learning a bit from her first time trying to help a human. The blood just so happened to incorporate itself faster because of Hinako's accident.

Also curious if knowing Shiori's true intentions make you think of her earlier interactions with Hinako differently now that eating her was just a ruse to keep her alive

Oh I don't think she has/had immortality...although with someone like her anything that prolongs her existence is probably the same as immortality.

I'd have to rewatch honestly her past interactions. I think they do make MORE sense, given that it was a lie to say she was just waiting for her to be delicious. After all, the yokai seem to be after Shiori's power by consuming Hinako, so flavor doesn't have anything to do with why something wants to eat her really.

I agree to current Hinako it probably feels more like a curse than a blessing
